before anything else
PREFACE
SIRIUS
Before anything else, there are a few things that need to be clarified.
First and foremost , the boarding school known as “Hogwarts”, had in Sirius' opinion, been the saver of his sanity. The school had given him the best and had shielded him from the worst.
Letting him leave the house he grew up in, under the eye of his mother. His mother, who had done nothing but vex him for most of the years prior.
Hogwarts boarding school had given him James Potter, who had come to be his key and way out.
It had given him Peter Pettigrew, who had come to be his most sain adviser, whilst still managing to remain the most witty of companions.
It had given him Remus Lupin, who had been everything .
Second of all , the downfall of the sweet relationship he once had with his brother was not for him to be blamed. He tried to hold on, but holding on to somebody who doesn't want to be held at all, is like trying to breathe, when under water. The mere attempt is harmful.
Third of all , close to graduation of his final year, he made a life changing decision. Up until that very moment, he'd been preparing to leave Hogwarts behind for a university in Brighton. Near his parents' house, in which he would be staying. That had been his plan until James had let him in on the news that he was moving with his parents to London. James' parents, who were well aware of Sirius's home situation and lack of another escape, asked for him to come along.
He had been phased with a choice and this had been his reasoning:
He could stay in a town in which he had no future. In a home where there was nothing but pain, misery and guilt. Or he could leave, leave everything behind.
Really, he wouldn't actually leave anything behind, would he?
His brother wouldn't be left behind, because his brother didn't want to be brought in the first place.
Peter Pettigrew would not be left behind, as he would be leaving himself for a university in Dover. He would only be two hours away. Which isn't a lot if you don't want it to be.
James wouldn't be left behind as he would be right by Sirius side in London, and Remus?
Well, Remus would be left behind..
He had always spoken of moving back to Manchester, where his mother had raised him, for most of his childhood. They all knew, however, that this was nothing but hopeless dreaming and wishful thinking.
Remus had no money, and on top of that, a sick mother in need of his assistance. He would work in between his classes. He would stay in Brighton.
Remus would be left behind if Sirius moved to London with the Potters.
But Remus would have his mother and his studies and the girl that he worked with at the local café on the weekends. The girl, Lily, whom Remus had seemed to take a liking to.
Remus would be fine if Sirius left.
He would be completely fine.
Would he not?
He would.
Still, it ached. Childhood was over and there was nothing Sirius could do about it. This was a part of entering adulthood. Growing up and moving away. So why did he feel ashamed? Why did he feel Guilty? He wasn't leaving Remus behind, not really. He was just moving away from him.
Since when were friends obligated to stay in the same place as one another anyways? They'd keep in touch. Of course they would. They're best friends after all.
