Chapter 1

Sirius took his backpack, cast a shrinking-enlarging spell on it, and started packing all his things, or at least the ones he would need. He had left some old black turtlenecks and other clothes in the closet that were completely not his style, which he hadn't wear in a long time, and some of which he had never even worn.

He looked at his already full luggage, the size of which definitely did not correspond to the contents. Luckily he'd managed to cast the spell, and his school trunk had stayed with James, which made things easier because he didn't have to carry it around. Now all he had to do was throw on back his backpack and leave this damn house as fast as possible.

All he had to do was slip quietly out of his room, down the stairs, and out the back door. The plan didn't seem complicated, in fact it seemed child's play. This should have worried him, because plans like that usually fall apart, but Sirius didn't have time to think or hesitate right now. He had made a decision to escape that night, and he wasn't going to change it.

He felt bad about leaving his younger sister alone, without a word of explaining, but he thought it was for the best. Goodbyes hurt and can do more harm than good. She would probably ask him to stay, and he knew he couldn't grant that request. Maybe she would go with him if he asked her, but the odds were slim, so it wasn't worth asking.

As he walked through the kitchen, he thought about grabbing something else from the fridge on the way, because he was feeling very hungry. He hadn't eaten anything for several days except some chips or gummies he had stashed in his room. He argued with his parents and did not go out for meals. He hadn't left his room at all since the marriage row. Now he has left it only to never return there again.

He couldn't find anything suitable in the fridge. Maybe he could ask the house elves to cook him something, but he wasn't sure if they would listen to him and, most importantly, be discreet. Thinking about the elves, he noticed that one of them was watching him closely. It was an elf that belonged to his sister and he was called Kreacher. The elf looked at Sirius with contempt, then disappeared. In the next moment, he materialized in Cassopeia's Room.

The girl was lying on the bed and reading a book about transfiguration. She'd done it a lot since she'd discovered that there were spells to change appearance and sex-correct. She reread the same chapter over and over again until she knew it practically by heart. The informations comforted her and depressed her at the same time. She knew that there was a chance for her dream life, but she also knew that her parents would never let her.

"Something happened Kreacher?" she asked looking at the elf as soon as she noticed that he had appeared.

"Kreacher was supposed to inform the lady if her brother left his room."

"So Sirius finally showed up" She quickly closed the book and put it on the bedside table "Kreacher, please take me to him." she ordered

"It's getting ready, milady," the elf answered obediently and immediately carried out the command.

The girl was dizzy from teleportation. She quickly came back to herself and immediately noticed her brother, who was putting something from the kitchen cupboard into his backpack.

"What are you doing Sirius?" she asked pretentiously as she approached him. There was definitely something wrong with his behavior.

"Cassie, shouldn't you be sleeping at this time" he answered the question with a question without even turning to her.

"Shouldn't you sit in your room and resent the world because you're going to have the tragic fate of marrying Miss Rosier?"

"Shouldn't you mind your own business, dear sister?"

"Obviously, but the case that concerns my brother and friend is also my case" Came the first answer during this typical Black sibling exchange of questions.

"If you are concerned about your friend's fate, I can reassure you that she is in no danger of misfortune, for I have no intention of marrying her."

"Is it because of the ridiculous feelings you have for Lupin? You think this thing between you two is serious enough to go against your parents' wishes?"

"You have no idea what feelings are between me and Remus. But I don't recall that affecting you in any way."

"What are you going to do?" she asked as she watched her brother zip up his backpack. She was one of the smarter ones, and definitely not easy to fool. "You're running away, aren't you?"

"Cassie.. I.." He didn't know what to say to his sister, but she cut him off.

"Do not make excuses. Answer the question. Are you going to run away and leave me here?"

"Cassie…" Sirius whispered and looked into her eyes, which were glazed with tears.

"You're going to leave and never come back, right?"

"Cassie, listen..."

"Answer first. Are you going to run away and leave me here?" she repeated the question, feeling her voice crack.

"Yes." he said with difficulty one short word. He felt immense guilt. He shouldn't have left her.

"Why?" She asked in the tone of a children who ask why they can't get something they really wants.

"can't stay here. I'm not going to live up to our parents' expectations. I don't believe any of the bullshit our mother tells me. I will never marry a women and I will never fulfill any of my 'duties'. Running away is the only way to break free. Honestly, I've wanted to do this for a long time."

"So you're going to leave me here alone because you can't get along with your parents. Wonderful, you're just a exemplar of perfect brother. Role model." She was furious but didn't scream. She didn't even raise her voice, but the tone she used was icy and dripping with sarcasm.

"I'm sorry I can't be as perfect as you. I'm not mommy's girl who's a fucking clone and does whatever she asks. I don't act like a lovely young lady, I've never been a sublime, nor have I had any outstanding notes. As you can see, not everyone can be a little miss perfect."

"I didn't say I'm perfect. I know I'm not the best sister, but I would never do something like that. If I wanted to run away from home, I'd tell you. Although no, I would stay for you. I would never make such a selfish decision."

"You have no idea what you're talking about!" said Sirius indignantly. "You have no idea what it's like to be me in this house. You've never really known your parents' wrath. They may have yelled at you once or twice, but I can't even recall any such incident. They're not trying to make you do things that go against your nature."

You'd be fucking surprised, Cassie thought, but she didn't say it out loud. Instead, she continued to listen to her brother lecture about how fucked up her life was because of their family.

"You don't know what it's really is when your mother really hates you. She love you and you don't know her real face. For you, she is a lovely woman who has never hurt you. She's never even raised a wand on you. You were always their favorite while I was the scapegoat."

"And I'm to blame for this? You're the black sheep because I'm your parents' favorite. It's my fault that you're acting like a jerk and doing some sick stuff all the time. It's all my fault, how good of you to remind me, because I had forgotten."

"Well, I'm sorry" he sighed "You have the right to be angry. You have the right to be mean and sarcastic. You have a right to resent me. But I don't blame you at all and I don't do it to hurt you. I can't take this shit anymore. I can't stay in this house."

Sirius looked at his sister, who was silent for a long time after his statement. Maybe he said something wrong. Maybe he should have handled this conversation better, to make it less difficult and less emotional, if that was even possible. Maybe he should ask her to come with him. However, her answer convinced him that it was too late.

"Then go away and never see me again. I don't want to know you. You're not my brother anymore, you're a selfish asshole who only thinks obout himself." The words out of her mouth hurt him more than the cruccio he used to get hit by his mother when he disobeyed.

"As you wish," he said, holding back tears, and then left the Black house forever. He didn't look back, didn't even look at her. He didn't want to see the expression on her face. He knew he was making a big mistake that he would probably never be able to fix.
