The one where they barter with a demented Old goat.
If there’s one thing I hate more than not having proper technology at this time, then it is waiting. Waiting to see if my predictions will be right, waiting to see if I will be able to handle it.
Why are you monologuing like a bond villain??
‘….god damnit chat. I'm having a moment here.’
Yes yes you’re having a moment, but seeing as it is an extremely boring and base-less moment I thought that we can go and do something else instead of laying on the couch counting the number of glass shards in that chandelier up there.
‘5031 shards’
……..
‘I counted them months ago.’
Which just proves my point, why don’t you go in the back garden and do something physical.
Maybe we can practice light bending a bit more? You seemed to really like it yesterday.
‘Yeah that’s not a bad idea. Alright let’s go’
Reaching the garden I looked around and started doing small simple things like disappearing objects and making them reappearing. I also started making copies of things like the chairs and tables or rocks. The only problem that I seem to be having here is that I'm having a little trouble holding on to the ambient magic while directing it according to my will, I'm sure that with regular practice this can also become second nature to me.
Thinking about that I started making big illusions like making it seem as if the entire space was glitching around me. It looked like everything around me was breaking down and rebuilding itself in a matter of seconds. To make it look more scary and realistic I made some particles around us floating in an extremely erratic manner. If you can give it a bit more sharp and glassy texture it’ll look like a scene from Quantum break. Remembering the game I started to make the glitches a bit more erratic and random and the sharp and glassy texture to the entire thing.
After thinking a bit more I started giving a fluid simulation like illusion to the floor, which looked extremely trippy but if someone walked on it they would instantly know that the ground is fine. Adding flying shards I started the glitches again and made the world a little more distorted and then I started having fun with it. I was so immersed in it that I never noticed someone standing in the doorway.
Stopping the light show I saw Dumbles with my mother standing and looking at me with horror and curiosity.
Who wears robes that bright and….wired? They look worse than kush’s bag, and that fuckin’thing shined in the sun!! How can something look worse than that?
Ignoring Chat’s rant I started walking towards them.
“Mom, Albus”
“Cass how many times have I told you to do this kind of thing in your room” too many to count really.
“But then you wouldn't have seen my awesomeness” I said with what I can only hope was a roguish smile. You're a three year old child, what do you think it'll look like?
“Anyways ‘Professor Dumbledore’ wanted to meet you” she said, reprimanding me for using his first name like that.
“Really??” I asked, looking at him with amusement. Which he returned easily.
“Yes, I wanted to introduce myself to the new lord Slytherin, but I'm afraid I'm going to fall short, to that brilliant display you just did” he said pointing to the garden where I was doing the light show.
“Oh that was nothing, it was pretty simple actually. You would be able to do it better than any of us really” huffing at this good-naturedly my mother walked in the house leaving us alone.
“Are you willing to teach me??” he asked with genuine curiosity.
“Never thought I’ll be teaching the headmaster something”
“You never stop learning in your life no matter how old you become”
“Ain’t that the truth. How is the wand treating you by the way?” I Asked him while taking a chair.
“The Wand?” he asked, a little taken back by the change in topic.
“Yes, the wand that my ancestors made” this made him stop for a second and just observe me, after a few seconds he answered carefully.
“Good, that wand has been treating me very well.” He said taking out the wand from his robes, it really is a very peculiar and distinct looking wand. “Why? do you want it back?”
“No not really, I don't need a wand as you just saw.” I said, gesturing towards the garden. “To me a wand is nothing more than a crutch, God knows why you still use it.” He looked a little thoughtful about this.
“You’re not wrong, but it is hard for people to start learning casting again without any wand” He said, taking the seat opposite to me
‘Well looks like it’s time to lay the groundwork.’
Just don’t over do it
“Hmm, I know. I experienced it first hand.”
“Learning to cast wandlessly?”
“Yup, it is actually really hard doing it after learning with a wand. But you made sure that we were prepared in that aspect”
“And when did I do that exactly?” he asked after two beats, but it was enough to tell me that I got his attention.
“In my fourth year”
“You’re from the future” He said as if he had an Epiphany.
“For the lack of a better term, yes I'm from the future.”
“And how exactly did you arrive here?”
“I have no idea, it just happened”
“That’s not very comforting” He said dryly, which I wholeheartedly agree with.
“I know right.”
“Did we win?” he asked after a little hesitance.
“Against tom? Barely. But against the world? Nope we lost. Badly.”
“What do you mean?” he asked, sitting in his chair and looking at me intensely.
“Defeating Voldy was not the end, instead it was just an end of the beginning. By the time we got to him the world had already gone to shit, the statue of secrecy fell and the conflicts began between our worlds. But the catalyst came when they found out what we had done to all the muggleborns.”
“What did we do to the muggleborns?” he asked a little fearfully and sadly as if he already knew the answer. And to be honest anyone with a brain can make a solid guess as to where this entire situation is headed.
“You did nothing, don’t worry. You were dead by then.” this got raised eyebrows, but my nonchalant way just got amusement in return. “Which gave the dark faction an opening that they needed. They started muggleborn camps under the belief that they all stole their magic from prominent wizarding families which they do by stealing the magic and turning their children into squibs.”
I can see him getting only sad about his revelation, not surprised.
“Under this belief the ministry started rounding up muggleborns and killing them by torturing them for information on how they got their magic, for which no one had any answer.” I saw him get a little sick from that. Time to take it up a notch.
“When muggles found out what happened to their children they started attacking the wizarding community and this time the entire world rose together, this caused witch trials to begin again. And then extremist magicals started retaliating and everyone started getting involved, and soon it developed into an all out war. And humanity silenced itself.”
After spinning this tale I just sat there and let him take it all in, because if the horror I saw on his face was any indication then he desperately needed a few moments.
“Can we stop it? Can we change what’s coming?” he asked after a solid five minutes, a little desperately.
“Of course we can. But it’ll take time, killing isn’t the answer here.” that seems to please him.
“So what’s your plan?”
“Well first we need to get rid of all the death eaters from the ministry, we need to expose them by telling the world about the nature of the mark.”
“That will be hard, the death eaters on the wizengamot will stop us before we can even think of doing that.”
“Don’t worry about it, I have a plan for that.” I said waving my hand
“You’re not going to tell me?”
“Nope, all you need to worry about is keeping Hogwarts safe.”
“Hogwarts is the safest place in the entire world”
“How about this? The day I prove you wrong, you’ll give me a time turner.”
“As you wish” he answered with amusement.
“Now we comes to the hard part”
“This wasn't the hard part?” he asked a little tiredly.
“This is hard as in that you will not agree to this easily”
“But will I agree to this eventually?”
“Oh, yes you will”
“Then tell me” he asked with a small smile which was gone the second I finished my sentence.
“I need Harry to come live with me”
“No”
“See I told you it won’t be easy”
“My boy, this is a risk I'm not willing to take” he said sadly
“So to save him from these fucking death-munchers you’ll let those relatives of his continue to torture him??”
“To keep him safe? Yes”
I never actually thought that he explicitly knew about his house life, but his answer is pointing towards the other way. Oh well I know this’ll be a problem.
Remember don’t over do it.
“Well just a heads up, I have seen him cast crucio wandlessly at 6 people at once. I remember the day when he pulled out Draco's entrails out of his nose, it was quite the scene. I also remember the day he tortured Goyal Sr. for the information on Riddle, damn he sang like a canary.” and there is the growing horror I need.
“You wanna know why he became such a bitter person? Because his entire life he was forced to live under a fucking cupbord, he was friendless until he came to hogwarts which obviously meant that he never made any friends in 7 years, just close acquaintances. He was able to torture and kill so easily because of all the pain that you forced to endure him. You know he cast his first Avada Kedavra in his 4th year. And all of this because of his relatives.” Sam
“I refuse to allow this to happen again, you can either help us get rid of Riddle or you can once again stand on the sidelines while we take care of your mess. And this’ll all begin with Harry coming here that is non negotiable.”
“But the blood wards-” he started, but I can’t give him the edge here.
“We have better wards here than them! And if you have doubts even then, then I can ask Gringotts to put up more wards around the house. Hell, I'll ask them to put one in the entire Hampstead garden suburb.” without saying anything he stood up and walked into the garden, thinking things over.
“I’ll be putting my own wards too then” he stated after 10 minutes of pacing around.
“I won’t say no to more protection.”
“Do you need any help with all this?”
“Sign the guardian ship to my mother. And then I have another thing in mind”
“Which is?”
“First the owl redirection”
“No, It is too dangerous for Harry to receive owls right now, my boy. Death eaters can send him some kind of port key to kidnap him, or something to hurt him. We can’t risk it” his tone indicated that there's no room for argument. Which suits me just fine.
“I know that’s why you’re gonna report in the newspaper how a death eater sent him some booby-trapped letter to hurt him, and due to this you’re personally gonna redirect all the owls from now on.”
“But why do you wanna announce this in the newspaper?”
“Because people are sending their hero gifts and thank you letters but they are getting nothing in return, not even a thank you to all the senders in the newspaper. Seeing as he’s just a three year old child, people are not really that angry about this. But in future people will start resenting him, if not to his face then on some deeper level. Especially his year mates who will send him a birthday card, presents, invites, or something, but they won’t even get acknowledgement in return, even when he sits with them in class, or when he shares a meal with them in the hall, because obviously, he doesn’t even know about any of it.”
“I can see how that might become a problem”
“So we release a statement, and all of this will be contained. People will know that sending anything now is a moot point and they’ll stop, maybe they won’t but obviously this’ll give him a good cover. And this will give us more ammunition against death munchers. It will remind people that death eaters are still alive and roaming around freely.”
“You were in Slytherin.” he stated with amusement.
“So was harry. It doesn’t matter anymore, I'll be a Gryffindor this time around. And hopefully so will harry.”
“Anything else?” anything else he asked tiredly
“Will it be too much if I asked you to fire your pet death eater?” there was a disapproving look on his face which I ignored.
“Yes, he’s too valuable. Both as a potions master and as a source of information regarding tom”
“Just keep him on a leash and we’ll be fine” I relented.
“He’s not an animal Cass” this time disappointment was present in his voice.
“Well the fucker sure behaves like that. Anyways it doesn’t matter just keep him in control and we’ll be fine.”
“His methods may be a little rough and hard but he’s trying to be good” I don't exactly wanna go into an all out debate about the amount of lives he has ruined, so I just dropped with a resolve to get back to this topic one day.
“Just keep him in control because this time I won't hold myself back.”
“Okay, I'll talk with Severus.”
“Well then, if anything pops up I'll be sure to call you.”
“Alright” with that we started making our way towards the front door after exchanging some pleasantries with my family. He opened the door but slowly turned around and asked me.
“Cass, are they really beyond saving?”
“I'm afraid they are. I'm sorry professor”
“It’s fine my boy” from his face I can tell that it really wasn’t. And with that he apparated right from our doorsteps.
“Why couldn't he have done that here?” my grandfather asked taking a seat
“Because he’s senile” grandmother answered with amusement.
“Mom!”
Well that went relatively easily.
‘I know right. I was expecting more fight from him.’
He would’ve been a fool to do that after hearing your made-up future.
‘Well now it’s again a wait game.’
