Remus was on duty in the upper floors of Hogwarts. It was his job as prefect to make sure that everyone kept the curfew and no one roamed the corridors. A routine duty he has been doing since the fifth year, three times a week.

Two years of experience had made him proficient. Before, he usually used the Marauder's Map to quickly catch all the kids who weren't in bed. He hadn't touched it since the incident with Snape, he still had a fear of anything who was marauders things

But he could rely on his heightened senses, which worked best in the evenings and at night. As soon as he heard something, he immediately walked towards the sound. A bit like echolocation, but not quite.

Sirius often compared Remus' werewolf abilities to the super powers of heroes in Muggle comic books, and gave him hope that he wasn't the monster most of the wizarding world thought he was. Of course, he took it in the worst possible way later.

Remus was fed up with the recurring theme of "The prank" in his head. After all, he had already forgiven Sirius for what he had done, of course as much as he was able to. He couldn't forget it, even if he wanted to. He didn't want to remember what had happened. He wanted everything to be as before.

It was completely different now. Relationships with James and Peter were back to normal, and in fact hadn't changed much for a while. But the problem was with Sirius. Seeing him as an enemy was the hardest thing in his life.

More than a month without Sirius was a real nightmare. The holidays passed somehow, but the end of the sixth year was the worst. He didn't speak to him, and when he had to, he spoke in a gruff voice and used "Black" every time. He avoided him as much as he could, gave him cold looks and pretended that Sirius Black didn't exist.

The first time he had spoken to him normally was the first of September on the train to Hogwarts. On the evening of the same day, Lupine listened to him and accepted his apology. After that, the whole atmosphere started to improve more and more, but it still wasn't the same.

Remus missed the times when he and Sirius were together. When they could trust each other on every possible level.
They were so close they couldn't get any closer. He missed his touch, the taste of his lips, that seductive tone. He even missed the way Sirius said naughty things in French.

Now even when they were no longer together, the handsome rebel with long black hair still dominated his mind, making the werewolf unable to stop thinking about him. Memories of the days, evenings and nights they shared kept running through his mind.

At one point, one very intense thought overshadowed all the others. It was such a very clear thought echoing in his ears and making him shiver like electricity was running through his body.

With every minute that passed, it began to dawn on him that this wasn't just a thought at all. It was a feeling. One of the werewolf abilities that Sirius compared to some superpower of a spider hero from Muggle comics. The feeling was about Sirius and Remus felt it was very bad.

He tried to stop thinking about it and focused on his duties. He chased off two fourth-year Hufflepuffs, threatening them with a point deduction. Fortunately, the boys did not argue with him and went obediently towards their dormitory. He later caught a few more students, but luckily none of them were Slytherins, so it went smoothly.

The rest of the patrol seemed calm and trouble-free. The werewolf was already hoping that nothing more would happen and he could go back to his soft, comfortable bed and get some sleep. However, hopes may burn in a living fire faster than they appeared.

He heard some disturbing noises coming from the astronomy tower. The sounds of metal hitting metal and muffled cries. He immediately moved in that direction, very fast, becoming more and more anxious.

When he got there, he noticed a figure at the railing. The person was facing away, but Remus had no problem recognizing them. The leather jacket, combat boots, and black hair styled in a sloppy bun with a wand pinned in were all too distinctive.

It was his close friend and ex-boyfriend, whom he still loved, but had broken up with him after he had revealed his secret to Snape, whom the werewolf had almost killed, had it not been for James, it would have ended tragically. However, at this point, Sirius could end tragically. But the hunch was not wrong.

"Sirius no! " Remus shouted, when the heavy boots clattered against the metal railing, leaning on it, in the next move, the brunette's leg got through the railing.

In his mind's eye, he could see Black swinging his other leg and falling hundreds of feet, and moments later his body lay helpless on the ground. He couldn't let this dark scenario come true. He had to stop him at all costs.

"Sirius no!" the second time he was ignored again, just like the first time. The boy didn't react. He didn't do anything to indicate that he had given up on suicidal action, but he wasn't done either. He stood looking down and thinking.

"Sirius, no." Remus repeated firmly, but not shouting this time. "Padfoot, I'm begging you..." he added, feeling his voice break. His heart was beating way too hard and fast, as if it wanted to jump out of his chest. "Sirius, no, please..."

"Sirius no!" he shouted again and pulled out his wand. He had no idea what spell he could use. All stuns were off because they were too risky, and accio is unlikely to work on humans. Admittedly, the spell worked on animals, and Sirius was an animagus and turned into a dog, but Remus didn't have time to test whether the attraction spell would work on him.

He wished there was a spell to stop someone in time for a while, that would be very helpful. Petrifying was as dangerous an idea as numbing at the moment, because Sirius could lean in the wrong direction and he would fall and die. He couldn't die.

Remus was thinking very fast and hard. The most effective thing at this point would be to use imperius and force Sirius to move away from the railing, perhaps even safely back to bed and fall asleep.

Would an unforgivable spell become forgivable if cast to save someone's life? Remus didn't know that, and he wasn't sure if he could even cast a spell like that.

Another problem was the moral dilemma of whether taking his friend's will for a moment in order to save him would be fair to him, or whether it would not cross the line. He would have crossed the line for sure, but Sirius had done so many times for much less important reasons. Sirius don't even know when he was crossing the line.

"Sirius, no." Remus tried again, approaching him carefully and slowly, as if any movement could provoke the brunet to jump. "I'm begging you, Sirius, don't do this. Siri.. I'm begging.. I'm begging you.."

"Sirius, don't do it. Talk to me, I'm begging you. Do not do this. It doesn't matter what the reason is, if you tell me.. if you talk to me and tell me what the problem is, we will definitely fix something together. I'm begging you, Sirius. Let me help you."

Remus moved a little closer, now he was about three feet away. He was afraid to come closer or touch him. He didn't know how he would react, he was definitely mentally unstable and unpredictable now.

"Syri.. honey.. darling.. it's me moony.. your moony.." he said with tears in his eyes, in that melodious voice, as if he had never broken up with him, as if they were still together. It was the last resort. "If you ever loved me, don't do it..."

Remus didn't think he would ever resort to emotional blackmail, but in this situation he was able to do it, no matter how bad he felt about it. Under the influence of strong emotions, a person often does something that he would not normally do.

Fortunately, this not-so-clean play worked. Sirius pulled his foot back and put it back on the floor. He clenched his hands on the railing so hard it hurt. He didn't do it consciously, but he did

Lupin took several deep breaths. He was still in a state of extremely strong stress, entering nearly 100 points on the Holmes and Rathe stress scale, because in this situation his loved one could die.

Black began to shake terribly. He completely lost control. He was unable to control his movements. He was unable to control his breathing. He couldn't stop the tears streaming down his cheeks like a waterfall. He couldn't calm down.

His entire body was paralyzed by convulsions. Hysterical laughter mixed with crying, creating a decidedly terrifying effect of a mentally unstable madman who had lost his mind. Maybe Sirius was just that, at least that's how he felt insane.

He felt as if his legs were made of cotton wool, completely unable to support the weight of his body. He clung to the iron bars, feeling that if he let go, he would not be able to stand on his own and he would fall. He clenched his fists tighter. The pain, he wanted to let the pain fill all his nerves, to become the one he felt.

"Syri, let it go," Remus ordered. He put one hand on the brunette's shoulder, and the other tried as gently as he could to tear his fingers off the railing, so as not to damage it. - Siri, please let go. You're hurting yourself. Sirius, please stop.

The Animagus let go of the railing, still crying and shaking. He felt himself lose the ground under his feet when strong male arms grabbed him. Remus hugged his friend tightly and dragged him ten feet from the railing to make sure he was safe.

Sirius fell into spasms. He could barely breathe through the tears he was choking on. He cried and laughed alternately, or did it simultaneously. It was hard to tell. Remus held him tightly in his arms and refused to let go.

Remus' heart broke into pieces. It was the first time he had seen Sirius in such disarray, on the verge of madness and even partly on the other side. He had almost crossed the line between life and death, and worst of all, he wanted to do it premeditated.

Remus had seen Black cry after running away from home, when he woke up from a nightmare, and several times when he apologized for the whole situation his thoughtlessness had caused. But he never thought he'd be in this situation.

Sirius had never shown suicidal tendencies before. The self-destructive ones were visible for a mile, but he never acted like someone who wanted to die. More like someone who is oblivious to his mortality and treats life as a game.

Or maybe all those situations where Sirius thoughtlessly put himself in danger were actually provoked deliberately. Brunet never really cared about his safety and often laughed when he landed in the hospital wing.

Now Remus considered taking Sirius to the Hospital Wing, but decided it might not be the best idea after all. Paradoxically, this could only make his condition worse. They didn't need any more stress or a nervous Madam Pomfrey right now, just calm

When Sirius had calmed down relatively, Remus released him and grabbed his hand, then led him up to the seventh floor. Still holding him tightly, he walked with him down the hall several times along the wall, mentally repeating "I need a safe place."

A few minutes passed, which seemed like ages to Remus, but the door finally opened. When they entered, they saw a cozy room filled with pillows, blankets and stuffed animals. The walls and floor were lined with soft pink foam.

Remus closed the door with a spell and let go of the brunette's hand, then sat down on the foam ground. Sirius was confused and still jittery. Anyway, it's hardly surprising, a moment ago he was standing at the railing on the astronomical tower and was going to jump.

He looked around the room, touching the objects that were there. He grabbed a purple pillow with a pattern of green stars and began to knead it with his hands.

"You can do what you want with her," Remus said, looking at him and the corner of his eye at the pillow. - Throw, hug, hit, scream at her.. You can do whatever you need to feel better.

Sirius stood unsteady for a moment, then threw a pillow at Remus. In such a way as not to hurt him, of course, although it's hard to hurt someone with a pillow.

"Are you just challenging me to a pillow war?" Remus asked smiling. "Are you absolutely sure you want this?"

Sirius didn't answer, instead he confirmed by throwing a second pillow. Remus grabbed the soft object and threw it at Sirius. Then the real battle broke out.

Pillows and stuffed toys flew left and right. Fortunately, there were no glass objects in the conjured room that could break. Everything was soft and safe, even the walls and the floor.

The boys were drawn into childish play without memory. They needed it to defuse a huge load of stress and negative emotions, and Sirius in particular needed it desperately, but he wouldn't admit it out loud.

They didn't notice when they landed on the cozy ground in a sea of pillows. They lay side by side, looking into each other's eyes and laughing as before. Almost as before. Both boys wanted to kiss, but both knew they couldn't, so they just lay there in silence.
