You killed her!
Draco
The warm body behind him curled around him. Draco smiled into his pillow. Justin’s breath fanned across his neck. An annoying tapping came from the window. At the window, a black owl stood. Draco pulled away from Justin. Who rolled onto his stomach?
Draco opened the window. The owl held out his foot. He took the parchment and rubbed the owl's chest. The owl nipped at his fingers. They must be staying for a reply. He opened the parchment.
Lord Draco Malfoy,
I hope this letter finds you in good health despite the circumstances. I am writing to inform you of some distressing news regarding your father, Lucius Malfoy. I understand that the relationship between you and your father has been complex, but I believe it is my duty to convey this information to you.
Your father's health has taken a severe turn for the worse. The Healers at Azkaban have been closely monitoring his condition. I must tell you he is currently in a critical state. His condition is deteriorating rapidly, and his time may be limited. Given the gravity of the situation, I wanted to give you the opportunity to be with your father during this difficult time.
I understand the gravity of the situation and assure you we will ensure your visit goes smoothly and respectfully. You can come to see your father tomorrow at 1300 hours. Please write back to confirm that you will be here.
Wishing you strength and clarity during this challenging time.
Sincerely,
C. Abernathy
Warden of Azkaban
Draco felt his knees buckle. His father was dying. Did he truly want to say goodbye to the man who killed his mother? His only light in his life before his new family? Draco jumped when he felt his arms wrap around him.
“Morning. Who would send a letter this early?” Justin kissed his neck before reading over his shoulder.
“Draco..” Draco hated the sound of pity in Justin’s voice. He pulled away.
*I’m not sure if I’m going. It’s fine* He crumpled the parchment. Justin walked up to him and cupped his cheeks.
“Draco, I understand if you want to go see him. I think you should. Only if you wish. I would go with you. I know they won't allow me. Or we can just go to the cinema and watch a movie. We haven’t been to a cinema yet.” Draco leaned into his touch. “Just know that I will always be there for you. You don’t have to do this alone. Now I’m going to go make us breakfast. You can write your letter or not.” Justin leaned in and pressed a soft kiss on his lips.
Draco stood in front of the door of the infirmary at Azkaban. He shouldn’t have come. The guard huffed behind him. A long arm moved around him and opened the door. With an uneven breath, Draco straightened his shoulders and walked into the infirmary.
There were a couple of cots set up around the room. Draco’s eyes landed on his father. The once flawless Lucius Malfoy is now tainted and broken. His blond hair was brassy and knotted. Lucius's skin was gaunt and sunken in.
Draco froze. The man in front of him who made his life a living hell looked like death. His father opened his eyes. An awful, sinister sneer grew on his face.
“If it isn’t my only son. Last of the Malfoy blood. I know that your mother taught you manners. Are you not going to say hello?” Draco looked across at the guard who stood close to his cot, wand in hand.
“Oh, I forgot. You cannot speak, can you? It’s a shame that your mother saved you. I would rather have a dead son than you.” A coughing fit cut the older man off. Draco's hands were down by his sides, fisted. It was good that they took his wand at the entrance.
“So you are here to say your goodbyes? I am shocked. You no doubt wanted to see me die. I’m sorry to say I’m dying, but not today. It should be you, the one that is dying. I could always make another heir. You are such a waste! This was all your fault! Your mother died because of you! I only did what I did because she attacked first!” Draco felt tears burn his eyes. Lucius would not get the satisfaction of seeing him cry. What he said wasn't the truth. It's not!
*It was your fault! Your fault that she is gone! You were a horrible father! You killed her! You abused me! You will never abuse me again!* Draco signed quickly.
Lucius tried to sit up, and the guard pointed his wand at the older man.
Draco shook his head and ran out of the room. He needed to get out of here. The walls were closing up.
“You are so pathetic!” Lucius croaked out.
Draco opened his mouth and tried to scream no, but nothing happened. What did he think would happen?
His father's laughter was the last thing he heard as he ran out of the room.
Justin
Justin walked out of the floo at Draco’s house. He had been worried about his boyfriend all day. He hated he couldn’t go with him to see Lucius.
“Draco?” He called into the empty house. Maybe he wasn’t home yet or at Barnaby’s. He would have told him if he was going to be late.
With each room he passed the more concerned Justin got. He sighed with relief when he saw Draco laying on his bed.
Justin sat down next to Draco on the bed. His fingers trailed down the blond’s beautiful face. Bloodshot gray eyes opened.
“Hi, gorgeous. I came over as quickly as I could. How are you?” Draco pushed his hand away. Justin gave him some room. He knew that today was hard on him.
*How do you think I am? Don’t answer that. I don’t require you to analyze me.* Draco signed sharply.
*Draco, I am not going to analyze you. I know today was a hard day but.* Justin went to touch him. Draco moved away from him. This wasn’t good. He would not have Draco pull away after everything that they have been through.
*I’m tired. Justin leave. Please, leave. I don’t want to talk about it. What I want is to be alone.* Justin had so much he wanted to say but knew it Draco didn’t want to hear. At least not yet.
*Okay, if that is what you want, Draco. I will always be here for you. Always, it doesn't matter when or where. I’ll give you your space. When you are ready, I’ll be there.*
Justin did something he didn’t think he would have to do again. He walked away from someone he loved. First his brother and now Draco. Hopefully, Draco would come back to him.
