Slowly fade away
Regulus always went to Sirius’s room when he had a bad dream. He had bad dreams pretty often actually.
He tucked into Sirius’s bed and stayed until the morning but now since Remus and Sirius are dating he doesn’t do it anymore.
Sirius wouldn’t mind, of course he wouldn’t but Regulus know he isn’t five anymore to act like he is.
The nightmares doesn’t stop though.
And he can’t bear it by himself.
So one night when he woke up from his nightmare all sweaty and frightened.
He couldn’t stay in his bed on his own.
He went to shower but the nightmare was hunting him even there.
When he came back he looked at Barty’s and Evan’s bed. They were both asleep and he didn’t want to interrupt them but the idea of going back to his bed was just so unbearable.
He left the dorm and went to Gryffindor house to look of Sirius isn’t awake and alone.
He wasn’t.
He looked at James’s bed and he heard him breathing but it wasn’t really steady breathing so he must have been awake
He hesitated for a second but he just wanted to be with someone.
He knocked on the frame of the bed and unrolled the curtain a bit and James look up to him.
,,hey Reggie right ?” Regulus and James never really talked.
Regulus was always just a Sirius’s brother and James was just Sirius’s best mate.
,,yeah could I - could I stay in Remus’s bed ?” Regulus look at the bed and James seemed to understand when he looked over to Sirius’s bed. James knew that Regulus was spending a lot of nights in Sirius’s bed.
It was no secret to the others.
,,yeah of course” James said and smiled softly.
Regulus slipped into the bed but he let the curtains open and so did James.
Regulus felt James’s eyes staring at him.
When he finally fall asleep, it got worse.
He wasn’t even fully sleeping because he fall into sleeping paralysis.
He gets these pretty often, even tho it doesn’t get easier or less scarier each time.
He couldn’t move his body, he couldn’t yell for help and he couldn’t even talk.
It felt like he was tied up to the bed just watching this little shadow standing in front of him.
It was his own shadow but there was also a snake right next to it.
It was getting closer and Regulus was getting weaker.
He closed his eyes suddenly and opened them again but it didn’t felt like he woke up but the shadow was gone.
He immediately tried to move and he was so relieved when he lift his arms and jumped out to sit down.
He wasn’t fully sure that this isn’t a dream , because that’s how all of his dreams looks like and the worst thing is that they look so real he can’t tell the difference between these two worlds anymore.
Someone touched his hand on the other side of the bed, Regulus flinched and look that direction.
It was James sitting next to the bed.
,,hey sorry I just wanted to make sure you’re okay. You’ve been shouting and kicking. I tried to wake you up but not much successfully” James smiled but Regulus was still not feeling real, like he was really awake.
,,Am I dreaming ?” He asked quietly more to himself than James.
,,oh you wish you were dreaming about me” James whispered and smiled teasingly.
,,do you want to come lay with me ?” James asked and Regulus nodded even tho he had no intention of going back to sleep. Not tonight.
James just moved to the side and made a space for Regulus to lay next to him.
,,do you ever mind that they’re spending so much time together ?” Regulus pointed at Sirius’s bed while James kept his eyes closed.
,,what?” James lift up his head and Regulus noticed that James was almost sleeping before he interrupted him.
,,No sorry I’ll let you sleep” he said quietly and started playing with his rings anxiously.
,,yes” James said simply after few seconds.
,,what?” Regulus looked at James confusingly.
,,I do mind that we don’t spend so much time with each other as we used to but sometimes it feels like I’m part of their relationship so is not that bad” James smiled slightly and Regulus glanced at him ironically annoyed.
,,why did you act like you didn’t hear me when you clearly did “ Regulus said laughing pretending it made him mad.
,,Sometimes I do that it gives me more time to figure out what to answer” he said honestly and shut down the book.
,,can I turn off the light?” James asked and Regulus just nodded.
It was dark now and he was so glad he wasn’t alone in that darkness.
He was with James, he was never that close to him. They werent friends.
They just kind of knew each other.
Which was even weirder because just being next to him brought him so much comfort.
,,you’re not tired?” James asked when he saw that Regulus didn’t even closed his eyes.
,,oh I’m too scared to fall asleep again” he answered honestly because he had no straight to lie now.
