Chapter Four
Sirius, now transformed into a dog, watched his friend writhe in pain like a snake that had been carelessly stepped on by a child at the zoo. But, Remus was not that snake. He wouldn’t be better in fifteen minutes. When his pain subsided at dawn, they all knew that the cycle would just repeat and it was only a temporary respite.

The old door swung open dramatically. Severus’ lanky frame stood in the doorway. Sirius could tell by the look in Snape’s eyes that the secret prank planning session he was likely expecting was nothing compared to the terrifying sight before him. A stag, dog, and rat were standing in a semi-circle around a large beast that was growling and snarling, clearly in immense pain.
“Is that a werewolf-” Snape exclaimed with pure shock and terror. Just as he began speaking, Remus’ heightened wolf senses focused on the intruder. He pounced.
The stag quickly jumped in between the human and wolf. James may hate Snape but he knew that if Remus hurt someone, he would be forced onto The Werewolf Registry and all of Remus’ hopes and dreams would be over. Remus wouldn’t be able to get a job let alone make friends and live a happy and successful life. So James jumped in, to help Severus sure, but also to protect his friend.
Awoken by a spell set to alert her of a problem with Remus’ transformation, professor McGonagall rushed in. Sirius was unsure how she had arrived so fast. He had been frozen since Snape had showed up, perhaps he hadn’t noticed the time passing. It seemed that now James, still in stag form, was attempting to tackle Snape to the ground as Remus, also still a beast, was trying to attack the unwelcome guest.
“Stupefy” Professor McGonagall cast a stunning spell on Remus and gathered the limp body of Snape in her arms. “Mr. Potter, Mr.Black, Mr.Pettigrew, I’m assuming you have an explanation for this asinine, dangerous behaviour? Actually nevermind, come with me, back to the castle. Let’s see what the headmaster has to say about this.”
