With moony watching harry sirius had the time to plan a surprise birthday party. As for moony would be turning 23 it was going to be only close friends, grant, kendall, joe from the coffee shop and minnie of course, his plan was to have it in their backyard the day remus had to go back to work so he could set it all up. It was going to be a small get together and they would all watch muggle movies because of how much Remus enjoyed them.
And so with all of that he had to go shopping. The one thing that killed Sirius's soul. He hated shopping. But honestly he'd do anything for his moony. So off he went buying decorations and party favors, everything he could think of he bought. Eventually he made his way back home and snuck all the stuff for the party into the quidditch shed knowing damn well Remus wouldn't go there. “ remus? Love, I'm home.” Sirius called following a delicious scent to the kitchen. When he turned the corner to Remus making dinner while Harry played silently with his toys. “Mhmm dinner” Sirius rested his head in the crook of Remus's neck.
“Padfoot I won't be able to cook with you on my shoulder.'' Remus laughed pushing his husband away. “Darling?” Remus turned to sirius. Padfoot turned his eyes showing Remus had his full attention . “How would you feel about a pet….. Cat?” Remus questioned shyly knowing the answer.
“Remus. We've talked about this. No, we can't own a cat. We've already got to take care of harry, and if you haven't forgotten that were both I don't know…. Dogs????” he opened the newspaper no longer looking at remus. “ my answer is no. and that's final.” he said now fully attended to the newspaper. Not noticing remuses disappointment.
“ But cats really like the both of us, i don't see wh-” Remus continued pushing knowing that this was going nowhere ending in sirius cutting him off,
“ I. Said. NO. Remus.” he closed the newspaper, now irritated.
*Time skip day before sirius birthday*
Remus found Sirius the next day looking horrified at the newspaper in his hands, silent tears flowed down Sirius's cheeks as if they were riverbeds. Remus, with no clue what was going on, dismissed their argument from yesterday quickly running to aid his husband.
“Love what's wrong??” Remus hugged Padfoot like his life depended on it trying to wipe away the never ending flow of tears, Sirius mumbles something Moony didn't understand . Remus moved from his original position and got eye level with sirius.
“Darling i can't help you if i dont know whats wrong” sirius softy spoke not wanting to upset him more.
“Reggie he-” sirius sobs pointing to the newspaper “HOW COULD HE, WHY, REMUS WHY,” sirius began pounding on remus’s chest “Why'd he have to go and kill himself?? WHY” Sirius became weak, and ended up in Remus's arms. “Was I not good enough?? It's my fault I left him in that awful place, I- he killed himself Remus, he killed himself!!” Sirius cried many hours into Remus's jumper, Remus only leaving when having to attend to harry. “Love you did nothing wrong, it's not your fault, you did nothing wrong” Remus repeated in Sirius's ear.
*time skip the next day *
Remus sighs reading the note that was on the counter
“ Hia remus sorry im a bit sick and wont be able to come intoday.

Greate his first day back and he's all alone, even Sirius forgot what today was but understandably his brother did die the day before so he just ignored the day as if it was no other.
“Morning moony” sirius grogally rolled over with red blocky eyes and streak marks on his cheeks.” to see Remus getting out of the bed. “Why are you up so early? It's only 5.” he asked with confusion on his face. Remus smiled at him “ well i've got work, did you forget?” he looked back a sirius. Still waking up he asked “oh yeah..” this stung remus. He felt bad leaving Sirius home alone. “I can stay if you want-” Remus questioned, feeling very guilty. Sirius couldnt audibly reply so he shook his head no, laying back down to go to sleep. So Remus left, he left broken hearted Sirius alone, and he left the memory that his birthday was the same day.
After unpacking the books out of the box he switched the sign from “closed” to “open”. It was pretty slow so he went into the back to grab more boxes, when he heard the doorbell ring.
“I'll be with you in just a moment!” he shouted but when he came back there was just a heavy holy box with a note on it.
‘Remus.. ( he read ) I didn't have the heart to send him to Sirius, so I sent him to you. I'm greatly sorry I couldn't hold myself to stay alive. But know it was neither of your guys' fault. Please don't let Sirius beat himself up for it, it wasn't him, I swear, please if I could ask for one more thing, don't get rid of him, his name is star. He was mine and needs a new owner please take care of him. Here's a list of things he will need.
P.s. please tell Sirius that I loved him, and I never blamed him for anything. By the time you're reading this it's your birthday, so I was fine one, The money is to pay for stars stuff.

Remus looked down at the box releasing there was a cat in there, with caution he opened the box and saw a mostly black cat with one white ear. The cat instantly craved his attention. Remus picked up the cat with one single tear, he apparated to the lupins manor.
Remus slowly walked the steps of his house unlocking the doors, he was so unsure how sirius would react to all of this, startled by the sudden silence of the house remus quickly searched for sirius, after a while of looking he found him in the garden with harry, picking flowers?!? He thought to himself walking out, “erm sirius, love a moment?” sirius jumped a bit startled by how serious he was being,
“Um yeah..” he mumbled following Remus wondering why he was carrying a box. Once they got inside Sirius questioned him “ what's up with you and this box??” Remus shoved the envelope into his hand.
“Read it..” he whispers. So that's what padfoot did. He read and read over and over a few times.
“A- a bloody cat??” Sirius seemed mad “ and he didn't even try talking to me, fine then so be it, you take care of it if you want, but I refuse to make any connotation with it.” he huffed annoyed that his own brother couldn't write to him, whatever. Didn't bother him.
The cat meowed pleadingly at sirius. “The damn things ferrell I tell you!” Sirius said as the cat tried to get attention from sirius. Remus chuckled at this.
“ I think he likes you sirius.” Sirius glared at him going back out the garden.
“REMUS YOUR DAMN CAT” sirius blamed star to get moony outside, star was sitting on the chair and looked at remus questionably but did not move. “Good kitty, stay,” Sirius said to the cat. But the star hated being called kitty, so he hissed real loud.
“WHAT DO YOU NEED '' Remus ran outside, stopping in his tracks as he looked around. “ you- you all remembered?” Remus smiled, running up to Sirius and hugging him. Padfoot chuckled accepting the hug.
“How could we forget love?” Sirius, Remus, and all the others there partied the night away like no other.
Remus covered his eyes “bright..” he whispered to himself annoyed, he tried stretching a bit but found a lump on his chest. “ What the hell-” he looked down to see his fluffy companion. “ Hello there star” he whispered, chuckling to himself. Finally looking around he realized he was laying on a reclining chair, with even more investigations he realized that he wasn't the only one out there, somehow Sirius managed to fall asleep in the pool floating on a water floaty. “ sirius?!?!” he yelled, laughing. No avail. Remus moved the cat. “Sirius…” he started running over to the pool. “Sirius this isn't funny!” he yelled, taking off his shoes. Still no avail. “Damn it, sirius!” he jumped in. When he got up to Sirius he saw no movement. Deep breath. “Sirius? Love" Remus questioned. Panic. Quickly Remus got Sirius to the shore. Getting ready for CPR “sirius??” one, two, three, remus starts to cry. “Sirius you ass hole!!” he yells about giving mouth to mouth.
“RIDICULOUS” someone yelled from a distance. Remus, still crying, turns around to see sirius fine. “ baby im right here love” sirius runs up to remus hugging him. “Darling i'm right here” remus and sirius rock back and forth, “love, lets go inside..” sirius whispers remus nodded his head in agreement. What a way to start the day.
“Thank you..” Remus turned to Sirius, “if it weren't for you I wouldn't have known it was a barrgot” he whispers while sipping his tea.
“Remus.. I didnt get rid of the boggart i just heard you yelling..'' Sirius looked at Remus confused. “Oh.” Remus sipped on his tea some more.
