“I’ll kill you.”
The sentence was said calmly enough, which, despite the words said, made the fist that connected with the professor’s face all the more shocking. Harry could do nothing but gasp and watch with wide eyes as Sirius continued to attack Severus and as Severus allowed it. Eventually he shook himself out of his shock and rushed forward, pushing his way between the two men.
“Sirius, stop!”
His presence and voice stopped his godfather in a second.
“What did he do to you?” Sirius demanded.
Harry looked between Sirius, the man breathing hard, and Severus, who stood up straight behind him and had a trickle of blood running from the corner of his eye and nose.
“He saved me,” Harry said, moving his eyes back to his godfather. “I wouldn’t be here without him, Sirius, and that’s why he’s asking you for this, why I’m asking.”
He watched as Sirius’ eyes remained hard, flickering between Harry and Severus who remained quiet.
“Why are you doing this?” Sirius asked, looking over Harry’s shoulder at Severus.
Harry turned to hear the answer.
“Because I am the only one that can,” Severus said. “I know you want to be the one to have him, but we know it is impossible.”
“So, this is a task for you? A job?” Sirius said.
“No,” Severus said. “He saved me as well.”
Harry felt his eyes water at the man’s admission, overcome with emotion.
“Are you happy?” Sirius asked him and Harry looked back at his godfather.
“Than ever,” Harry said and readily leaned back against the professor as Severus’ arm wrapped around his shoulders and chest, bringing him back against the man. “Please, Sirius.”
There was a silence as Sirius looked between the both of them, eyes still hard and face still tight. Harry was becoming convinced Sirius would never agree when his godfather stepped forward.
“You protect him with everything you are,” Sirius said, pointing at Severus somewhat aggressively. “You hurt him…”
“I will bring myself to you personally,” Severus said.
Sirius’ eyes narrowed a fraction and then he stuck out a hand which Severus took. Harry just smiled, teary, as his godfather and new father came to a semblance of a truce…for him.
