We were offer a quest(a vacation?)
An interesting fact about demigod life is that it never stays peaceful. One would think that after having two great prophecies fulfilled in the span of a few years, the gods will try to make things easier for their kids, but no.
As Percy, Nico and Jason, the children of the big three, were now standing in front of the Olympus throne room, waiting for a council meeting with the gods.
The son of Poseidon could barely contain his irritation, he was pulled away from his lesson of underwater culture with Triton, which he actually liked. Nico and Jason were a little irritated as well, though not as bad as Percy.
Many things had changed after the war against Gaea ended, for one, Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter had managed to unite and were now working together.
Another change was that Percy and Nico had officially asked Jason to be their boyfriend, which the son of Jupiter happily accepted.
That was not the biggest change for the three demigods' lives though. No, that would be the fact that they were given godhood for their afterlife. Turns out being the Ghost king not only meant having power and authority over ghosts, but also meant that Nico would become a god after his mortal life ended, working as a part of the underworld system. Both Percy and Jason agreed that they would not let their boyfriend be immortal alone, so both of them had agreed to become god after their lives ended, just like Nico.
This meant that both Percy and Jason would receive their own title from their dads. For Percy, this meant that he was now a prince of the sea, and a member of Poseidon's court.
For Jason, he was now Zeus' advisor, and a royal member of Olympus.
This was something that only happened once to the demigod children of the big three, usually only the godly children would receive a title. However, all three of them had displayed power that was extremely powerful even for the children of the big three, so maybe it really shouldn't be that big of a surprise.
Of course, having a title also came with some responsibilities, the three of them had been getting lessons about their fathers' domains, hence why Triton was teaching Percy about underwater culture.
Back to the matter at hand, they had no idea what this meeting was about. All three of them were pulled away from what they were doing and asked to attend this meeting.
“If they gave us another quest, I swear, I will tear them a new one.” Percy muttered, he was wearing his casual clothes, an orange Camp Half-Blood shirt, jeans and blue sneakers, on his wrist was the watch/shield made by his brother Tyson. He really hated having his day interrupted by godly issues.
“I’m sure it wasn’t something bad, the gods are still busy after Olympus reopen, I am pretty sure they don’t have the time to issue a quest.” Jason was trying to be positive about the whole situation, the son of Jupiter was wearing his purple SPQR shirt, jeans and black sneakers. As he spoke, he adjusted his glasses. To be honest Jason was glad to be able to see his boyfriends so soon, they were so busy with their lessons to the point where they barely had time to hang out for the past few weeks.
“Can’t the gods inform us about the meetings beforehand? I have to shadow travel here after being woken up from my sleep.” Nico was rubbing his eyes, the son of Hades was wearing black shirt, pants and sneakers, with his favorite jacket. He leaned onto Percy and rested his head on the son of Poseidon’s shoulder. Noticing how tired he was, Jason started gently petting Nico’s back, trying to comfort him.
“There, there, I am sure it won’t take too long. I have been staying here for my lessons and I didn’t hear any bad news from other gods.”
“Nico has a point though, why ask us to attend the meeting so suddenly if there isn’t an emergency? Something must have happened.” Percy tilted his head slightly so he could press his cheek against Nico’s hair and nuzzle him.
Their moment was immediately interrupted by the door opening in front of them. Zeus’ voice came out from the throne room. “You three may enter now.” The three boys exchanged glances before stepping into the room, mentally preparing themselves for whatever the gods wanted to talk about.
The throne room was as marvelous as ever, with all the major gods’ thrones circling the hearth in the middle. The ceiling was made into the night sky with all the constellations moving around. Percy spotted the huntress immediately and let out a small but sad smile.
When he turned his attention back to the room, he was surprised. Only a few of the gods are there, and standing in the middle of the room beside the hearth was a woman in black dress. Hecate, the goddess of magic and mist. Percy wondered why she was presented for the meeting, did she need their help for something?
After they stopped in front of the goddess, all three of them nod at the king of gods and then at the goddess in front of them. “Lord Zeus, Lady Hecate.” One of the perks about having a title was that they now had the status of a god, which meant they didn’t need to be that respectful to the gods anymore. They would still get into trouble if they anger a god, but they no longer need to worry about saying gods’ names or bow to them anymore.
Before anyone started speaking, Percy glanced at his dad, getting an assuring nod from the god of sea, good, that meant things weren’t too bad.
After the greeting, Hecate took a step toward them and started speaking.
"Before we start, rest assured that this is not another dangerous quest. Although there may be some troubles you need to face, it will not be life threatening. In fact, this is simply an offer for you three to go on a quest that also works as vacation." The goddess smiled at them, but Percy was a little skeptical. The gods rarely did things for demigods, let alone something good, whatever this quest was, it was definitely not that simple.
He shared a glance with Jason and Nico, all of them were wondering about what the goddess wanted.
Hecate waited for them to turn their attention back to her.
“Now, let me explain the situation to you, please do not interrupt me and save your questions until I finish. ”
“What I am about to tell you is a secret that only a few demigods knew. Long ago, back when the mortal world and our world were still one of the same, I gave a group of my mortal followers my blessing. This will simply allow them to use magic, it was nothing as powerful as demigod power. As time went on, this group of people passed down this ability to their offsprings, this process made their power even weaker than before, so they were considered a threat. However, things started to change when we used the mist to separate our world and the mortals'. ” She paused for a moment, as if remembering what happened back then. Her dress shined due to the combination of her aura and the effect of the mist.
“As you know, some mortals are clear-sighted, this is most likely because being exposed to the mist has affected them in a way that allows them to build up immunity. At the same time, some mortals started to develop power that allowed them to perform magic the same way my followers' offsprings did. This resulted in the growth of the magic user's population. Eventually their population started to spread around the world, they started to form their own government with their own rule and custom.” Hecate looked at them with piercing eyes. "What I am saying is that just like gods and monsters, wizards are real as well, and their society is separated from not only the mortal world, but our world as well."
Percy raised his eyebrow, Nico’s eyes widened and Jason’s jaw dropped. They were all stunned, a world that was hidden from both the mortal and mythological world? It was not hard to accept it but certainly surprising to say the least.
“The wizarding world is not aware of our world, in fact, only the first three generations of wizards knew about our existence. I kept the two worlds separated since I believed the collision of these two worlds would only cause problems, and I was proven right. As time went on, the wizards started to become prideful of their magic. They treated other sentient magical creatures poorly, to the point that they would enslave other sentient beings to work for them. They were also prejudiced toward mortals who can use magic, the so-called pure-blood family believed that their magic is more powerful because their whole family were wizards and never had mortal blood in it.” Her voice contained a sort of sadness, like a mother talking about her child who had lost their way, and maybe that’s partly true, the wizarding world was created because of her blessing after all.
Jason winced, the wizards sounded like bad news, things never went well when people in power started to become prideful. Percy, on the other hand, was frowning, he hated bullies, and these wizards sounded just like a group of bullies.
“It becomes obvious that our world should not collide with the wizarding world, while wizards’ magic and hardly harm a demigod, they can still find a way to mess with our world. Since I can not interfere directly, I usually asked some of my children to deal with the wizards. They would help change the wizarding world for the better with their talent. I personally only kept a close watch on the wizards in America. Things changed again when the wizards started to have their own prophecies.”
All three demigods tensed when they heard the word ‘prophecy’, prophecy was bad news for demigods, especially after the two wars they had. If this quest was about a prophecy then things were most certainly bad.
Hecate must have noticed this as she quickly assured them. “The wizards’ prophecies came from what they called seer, which is basically descendants of the old oracles. Because they are no longer connected to Apollo, the prophecy made by a seer is not destined to happen. With enough godly interference, a wizarding world's prophecy can be changed.” All three of them visibly relaxed at that.
“Now comes the part about your quest, around the 1980s, a prophecy was made about a child who would defeat a dark lord in the British wizarding world. The said child later fulfilled this prophecy during the second wizarding war in 1998. However, the war had cost them greatly, many lives were lost and the war left many scars to the wizards that survived.”
The demigods all winced, they could all relate to that, many people in both camps still had nightmares and flashbacks about the war. The wizarding war might not be the world ending scenario they had, but the loss of lives was hard to deal with no matter what.
“I do not enjoy watching the wizards suffer, and since Olympus is now trying to change things, I was finally allowed to interfere with the wizarding world. This is why I ask the three of you for this meeting. The quest was to send you three to the past and deage you, so you can attend the magic school with the chosen one and help him stop the war before it happened. We already knew what happened in the war and what event took place and when, so it shouldn’t be too much trouble for the three of you.”
Hecate stopped, it seemed like she had finished her explanation, so Percy decided to ask.
“Wait, you want to send us to a school? How was that a vacation, school is basically torture for us.”
“Not to mention time travel, can gods even do that?” Nico chimed in with his own question, he had enough experience dealing with the hotel, he didn’t really like the idea of time travel.
“Well, this quest is seen as a vacation for you because of several reasons. First, we already know what needs to be done to stop the war. Second, the council had given me permission to make repercussions that will prevent monsters from finding you, which means no monster attack. Third, demigods are more powerful than wizards, which means that you will be able to use magic easily, and I already asked one of my children to teach you about magic. With some special equipment, you three can certainly learn about magic without much trouble.”
The goddess then turned to face Nico. “As for time travel, it did not happen often. This time is because the three fates themselves had given us permission to do so. As long as you don’t mess with the history of the mortal world, you will be fine.”
They were all quiet as they tried to absorb all the information. The existence of wizards, the war and the prophecy, and most importantly, their quest.
Jason was the first to break the silence. “So what you were saying is that if we choose to accept this quest, there will be no fighting monster, non life-threatening situation, and we get to learn about magic in peace.”
“Yes, that will be correct.” The goddess nodded, and the three of them could only stare at her.
“How long will we be staying and what age will we be?”
“You will be attending as fourth-year students so you will be fifteen, as for the time, you will need to stay for at least two years, after that you can decide whether you want to go back or stay until you graduate. You will return to your current age when you are back here, only a few weeks will pass during your stay in the past.”
“This sounded a little too good to be true, don’t you think?” Percy whispered. “We are not that lucky to have a peaceful vacation, something will probably go wrong during the quest.”
“But it is a school that teaches magic, aren’t you curious? It sounded like we will be able to learn about magic and the wizards.” Nico’s expression seemed to brighten up a little when mentioning magic.
“Neeks, careful, your inner geek is showing.”
“Don’t pretend that you aren’t interested, you played Mythomagic even before you met me, you are as much of a geek as I am. Also, don’t call me that.”
“I just want to make sure you don’t break the whole dark and gloomy child of Hades style, you know? Besides, I never deny the fact that I am a geek, and magic does sound interesting.”
“You sure you can handle the studying though? If it turns out that Jason and I need to force you to study.”
“I will not be that bad if it’s about magic that I can learn-”
“Alright, you two are going off topic, the problem is should we accept this quest or not.”
“...I’m not sure, it sounds like it won’t be too difficult, and we got to live our lives without worrying about monsters. Not to mention we can spend a lot of time together, but I’m worried that something will go wrong.” Percy said, he glanced at Hecate, the whole thing just sounded too good to be true.
“I don’t like the whole mess with time and history thing, but I want to learn more about magic, it sounds interesting. How about you, Jason?”
“I am also interested in magic, yes. I also think we should try to learn more about the wizarding world, it sounds like the gods will be more involved in the wizarding world in the future. It will be good if we can learn about the wizards so we can be more prepared in case the camps ever get in contact with the wizards.”
“So we all agree that we will accept this quest?”
“Yes” Both Nico and Jason replied at the same time.
With their discussion finished, the three demigods turned to face the goddess of magic.
“We accepted this quest, we will help the wizards with their war and change this prophecy.”
Hecate gave them a smile. “Wonderful, now you will have thirty minutes to send an Iris-message to your friends and family. You only need to bring your weapons with you, my child will provide all the supplies you need once you arrive.”
And with that, a new quest had begun for the three demigods.
