Chapter 2

Sirius had awoken and was now walking towards the castle which he called Home. This was the place he missed the most. He didn't miss the other students, he didn't miss his only friend either. He did however miss Minnie, Poppy and he missed the safe feeling the castle provided him and his head with. He was walking up with Minnie, who was still wondering about her missing son she had given birth to 12 years ago. Not knowing what had happened to her son for 12 years has nearly destroyed her. She has never felt the pain she feels every time she glances at Sirius since the day she let her baby boy go. Maybe Sirius was the baby boy she had no choice but to let go? Maybe this was the reason for this weird, strong maternal instinct she had to protect Sirius from all harm? She hated that she couldn't be sure that Sirius was her son. If only she could go to the hospital where she had taken him when she unexpectedly gave birth in the hospital wing...

Once they arrived, Sirius decided he was going to try and speak to James' friends and Minnie took the opportunity to go to the hospital wing and speak to her "best friend" who was with her when she gave birth 12 years ago. "Hey Poppy, can we talk?" Minnie asked her girlfriend of 10 years. "Sure Minnie, what's wrong?" Poppy responded as she rushed across the room to go to a smaller room behind an oak door with an old-style iron handle. "I think I found him, Poppy. I think I found my son..." Minnie exploded. "Wait, who do you think he is?" Poppy inquired. Minnie suddenly hung her head in despair and pity. "Oh my love, you think Sirius is our son?" Poppy almost answered her own question. Minnie slowly nodded and started to slowly cry into her girlfriend's arms. "I'm sorry Poppy, I thought once I gave him away he'd be out of my life but no matter how hard I try but I can't deny that there is a huge possibility that Sirius could be my son. It all adds up... he looks so much like his father and he makes me have this instant maternal feeling towards him. I'm sorry." Minnie said through her tears. “Minnie, don’t be sorry. The pregnancy wasn’t your fault. You didn’t ask for it. It’s ok and we can always try and find out where our gorgeous son went. He might very well be Sirius but we can’t be sure so you can’t suggest the idea yet, ok my dear?” Poppy told her girlfriend as she held her lovingly. “Yeah, I know I can’t tell him yet. Do you really think we can find out if he is my… our son?” Minnie asked her girlfriend. “I don’t know but I will try my hardest for you and for him, if he is our son, he deserves to know.” Poppy assured her girlfriend. “Ok my love, do you think you can go to the Great Hall and meet the first years?” she asked. “Oh yeah, see you tonight Poppy.” Minnie said to her girlfriend as she kissed her cheek and went off to the Great Hall.

“Sirius! Come sit with us.” James’ voice bellowed throughout the Great Hall. Sirius cautiously made his way to the table where his friend was sat with some other lads from their year. Sirius recognised one of them. It was the same boy who had caught Sirius’ eye last year. Remus John Lupin. Sirius was far too anxious to talk to him last year but today would be the day that he tried. “Hey, it’s Remus right?” Sirius asked the sandy haired boy. “Yeah, and you must be Sirius?” the boy responded. “Yeah but I swear I’m nothing like my family. I hate the lot of them, apart from my cousin, Andromeda. She’s nice. Oh sorry, you didn’t ask for any of that information.” Sirius quickly apologised to Remus for info - dumping on him when he never asked. “Hey, it’s ok. I don’t mind. If James is like what he’s like with us, I bet it’s hard to tell him anything.” Remus said with a slight chuckle. “Well, he is quite loud.” Sirius laughed before a silence fell upon the two boys. “You seem fun, wanna hang out tomorrow?” Remus asked as it didn’t seem like Sirius was going to say anything. “Uh yeah. You seem nice enough.” Sirius half joked. He became comfortable with Remus throughout the rest of the night. They shared a dorm but Sirius didn’t sleep there all last year so they never got to know each other. Sirius took the opportunity and he spoke with Remus until the both fell asleep. Sirius had never felt safer in the castle than he did now he had a quiet friend and he had his Minnie and Poppy just down the corridor. He felt like no one could hurt him here.

The next day, Sirius went to speak to Minnie and he told her all about his new friend and how he had spoken with him all night. “...and he has hazel eyes and sandy coloured hair and he’s really sweet and he makes me feel safe, Minnie.” Sirius ranted to his motherly figure as she smiled at him, finally being confident enough to talk to someone other than her, Poppy and James. She couldn’t help thinking however, what if he was her son? “Sirius, I know it’s hard for you to make new friends and I’m proud of you. You made friends with Remus and you didn’t even ask about his scars, something he likes to keep very secretive and hidden. He will tell you about them in his own time, just don’t push him to tell you things, ok?” Minnie made sure Sirius could be a good friend to Remus as being friends with Remus was very different to being friends with any other twelve year old.

Remus had to grow up when he was younger to cope with his affliction. He couldn’t be a child about it. He had to be an adult when dealing with the affliction otherwise it could be dangerous for both him and the people around him. Remus never told anyone apart from teachers about his affliction because he knew other students would be scared of him. He didn’t want that. They didn’t need to be scared of him, he wouldn’t hurt them in his human form. He had the gentlest soul on earth and he would never hurt anyone on his own conscience.
