When the moon and stars reunite

It was midnight and just as Remus had promised he met with Sirius down in the courtyard for their date that night. His interaction with Regulus had been nice. He found it easy to talk to him. He always had but he had but it was still a weird concept to him. Talking to the boy that was known for being cold was not supposed to be easy by any means but Remus knew that Regulus was capable of comforting those in need, even if he didn't do it often or in public.

He leant against the castle wall face dimly lit by the flame of a lighter. He wasn't smoking as Sirius would most likely slap him then steal his cigarette so he was only watching the small fire dance in the wind. He wondered what would happen if he set a branch on fire and set it down. He wanted to watch as the field set fire. He wanted to watch as the grass died from the heat. The smell of the smoke and the feeling of the heat and the way the air seemed to ripple away from the flames. All of this could be caused by a small spark. Mesmerising.

He passed his finger through the flame, a smile appearing on his face when he didn't get hurt. He continued doing this, passing through it faster every time.

"Oi Moons! Stop trying to burn your finger off!" Sirius's voice rang out as he ran towards him, tackling Remus and nearly sending the both of them flying to the floor.

"Watch it Pads!"

"No." Sirius laughed, releasing Remus and laying next to him as he stared up at the night sky, focusing on the moon. Still as beautiful as ever but not as beautiful as his Moon. Remus also looked up to see the bright pattern of stars, searching for Sirius's namesake.

"The stars are beautiful, aren't they?" Remus asked Sirius, who immediately understood what he meant. He watched as Sirius tried to maintain his composure but obviously failing. Sirius turned his eyes to the sky once more, his eyes gazing at the lines that he had memorised from a young age.

"The moon is beautiful isn't it?" Sirius responded. Remus had spent enough time reading poems with Regulus to know what he said. Sirius turned to him, "My moon is beautiful."

Remus felt a small blush working its way to his cheeks. He had forgotten that Sirius could be this romantic. This beautiful. He turned over to Sirius, looking him in the eyes. They were the colour of silver, cold and piercing but full of emotion. Specifically love. They reflected the stars in their pupils and light up whenever he looked at Remus.

Sirius could only stare. Stare at the boy in front of him. The boy who played with lighters, quoted books as part of his daily speech and wore jumpers just a bit too big for him. The boy who he had convinced (for the most part) to stop smoking. The boy who loved the stars. The boy who would give him the world on a whim.

"Stop looking at me like that."

"Like what?" Sirius blinked innocently, causing Remus to panic. He wasn't supposed to love. He wasn't supposed to. Sure, he had invited him out on a date but he didn't expect himself to fall again. He had always loved Sirius, even after he betrayed him but this time he was falling harder than before. This wasn't meant to be happening but t was too late now.

"Don't act all innocent with me."

"What do you mean?" Sirius rested his head on Remus's shoulder still staring at him and making Remus's blush worse. Remus didn't know what to say. How was Sirius so comfortable around him? Remus had yelled at him and refused to forgive him for ages but Sirius seemed to have forgotten about it. Maybe not completely but enough to still act this way around him.

Remus forced his eyes away from the perfection resting o his shoulder and pulled out the lighter, clicking it until an orange flame burst into existence.

"Oh no you don't Moons." Sirius snatched the lighter, pocketing it away in his jacket. "You're not playing with fire when I'm around."

"Why not?" Remus asked reaching for Sirius's pocket and pulling out the lighter before Sirius grabbed his wrist.

"Don't you dare Remus. Put it back." Sirius stood on his toes to just be tall enough to ruffle Remus's hair. Remus put his hands in the air after sliding the lighter back in Sirius's pocket. He dropped his hands by his side, smiling at the sight of Sirius struggling to touch the top of his head.

"Need help Pads?"

"Oh shut up."

"That wasn't a no." Remus laughed, picking him up, causing Sirius to yell at him and slap him. It didn't hurt but the effort was there. Remus eventually put him down after being cussed out in French and being kicked in his shins. "Sorry Pads."

"You're not fucking sorry, are you?" Sirius huffed. He was startled to say the very least but he enjoyed it. He wondered if that was what it felt like to be tall. Well Remus's height.

"Nope."

"Fuck you." Sirius flipped him off.

"Well you always say that but you never followed through."

"Shut up Moons." It was now Sirius's turn to blush. Adorable really.

"Never." Remus grinned planting a small kiss on Sirius's head. "Payback is payback."

"You still owe me £20 from that bar 2 months go."

"No I don't"

"You were wasted and bet £20 that the girl in the pink crop-top would get with the guy in the cargo shorts when I said that the guy in the black polo shirt would." Sirius told him in a simple manner, "And I was right."

"I never said that."

"Ask James. He'll confirm it and you were black-out drunk Remus of course you can't remember shit."

"Fine then."

"Bastard."

"Says you."

"Excuse me?"

"You heard what I said." Remus smiled as Sirius glared at him. He was never going to get over him.

"You're not any better you're name is literally Wolf Wolf."

"You're cousins with your parents and your brother for Merlin's sake Pads."

"Fine you win."

"I always do."

"Except when you bet on couples getting together when your wasted." Sirius remined him, poking him in the chest.

"You know Sirius. You don't look as scary as you think you do when you're angry. You look like a 5 year old mad over being grounded." Remus ruffled Sirius's hair, laughing at the bewildered expression on his face, "You're cou- sorry brother does it better than you."

"You're a piece of shit you know that right?"

"Oh I know but why did you agree to go out with me then?"

"Because a star is never seen without it's moon."

"Very poetic, love." Remus pulled Sirius close to him. "Very poetic."
