Chapter 12

Hermione knew she was in way over her head.

"I'm sorry Ms.Granger but unless you have written permission from a teacher or the headmaster himself, I cannot allow you into the Restricted Section."

Hermione sighs in defeat once again.

After she left Draco in the classroom, she didn't even bother with going back to the dorms or to dinner. She'd spent the last three hours in the library, scouring for any information she could find on vampires and witches and vampire witches.

Safe to say that there was barely any information on vampires as a whole and even less information about vampire witches. The most she'd gotten was a ten line excerpt mentioning how vampire witches had amplified abilities and lived in covens. Nothing mentioned anything about non-coven vampire witches or the Gemini Coven.

There was quiet literally no trace of any coven of the sort; seeing as covens were basically just bloodlines of witches which indicated that covens existed within the Pureblood world. A world in which Hermione didn't and would never exist in. She was Muggleborn through and through.

She just needed to figure out why the hell this was all happening in the first place.

She needed to get into the Restricted Section.

She makes one last possibly futile attempt. She stares directly into Miss Pinces eye, giving her a pleading look. All Hermione could think was,

Please listen to me

"I truly do need to get into the Restricted Section! I'm not a student who would ever-"

"Alright."

Hermione blinks. Shes still with confusion. Had...had she just said yes?

Pince hands her the key to the Restricted Section, having gone from looking completely annoyed to not even there. Hermione hesitates as she takes the key from the librarian.

Once the tiny cold metal is in Hermiones hand, she expects a whole lecture like the librarian usually gave all the students to went into the Restricted section. But Pince continues staring into the distance.

"Thank you...I'll be quick and give it back right after."

"Okay."

Pince just nods her head and sits back down behind the desk. Hermione looks around for a moment to try and see if anyone had caught what happened aswell.

The library is usually empty this time as most students eat are at dinner. Hermione almost vomits at the thought of entering the Great Hall again. Too much noise and too many beating hearts. She didn't wanna risk accidentally making a student bloodbath like she'd done to Lavender.

Hermione shakes it off and glances around once more before making her way to the back of the library. The few students who had been with her in the front of the library begin to dwindle as she makes her way to the caged off Restricted Section. She takes a deep breath before inserting the key into the door and turning it.

Hermione feels the magic thrum around her. Magic felt so much closer now. Like she could touch the entity itself, not just through a wand.

She gladly accepts the feeling as she pushes the door open and slides the key out. She steps inside and shoves the key into her pocket. The walls were lined with books of vary sizes but all with empty spines.

"Weird."

She whispers to herself but eventually the titles begin to appear on their own. She watches in awe as gold letter begins to imprint itself into the spin of every book she crosses. She waits until all the books are finished before reading through the titles. Many of them talk about dark magic and dark history but one book catches her eye. She runs her index finger across the spine and can feel the magic thrumming once again. As if it was begging her to choose this book.

She turns her head slightly to re-read the title.

Confessions of an American Witch: The myths and legends of the creatures we've forgotten

Hermione can feel the gears in her mind turning as she carefully picks the thick blue book off of the shelf. She flips the book over to see the front of it. The same words on the spine were printed even bolder on the front page. Her eyes skim the shiny text, trailing down to see the authors name.

"Agnes Walker?"

Hermione stares at the cover, attempting to burn the name into her memory. She opens the book and flips two pages in. She finds the page full of copyright claims and scans the page until she finds the release date.

"1963?"

It had been forty two years since this book had been written. Hermione wonders why her magic wanted her to read this book so badly. Hogwarts library was stuffed with books from centuries ago but she had the nagging feeling that she should maybe get a more recent book.

Unfortunately, Hogwarts library lacked such a catalog.

Forty two years was the best she'd get.

Hermione sighs and closes the book. She puts her hand to the shelves once again, seeing if there was another book her magic wanted her to take. But the thrumming had stopped coming from the wall.

Instead, it sat within her left hand.

The hand that was tightly gripping the blue book.

"Fine!"

She whisper yells and drops her hand from the wall. The magic sends a shivering wave of warmth to her, seemingly thankful that she's taking the book.

Who knew magic could be proud?

Hermione steps back out of the section and retrieves the key from her pocket. She quickly looks the door back and up behind her way back to the front desk.

Technically restricted books couldn't leave the library but Hermione was already on a roll with Pince.

She felt as if one small attempt didn't hurt anyone.

Hermione practically skips back to the front desk. Miss Pince is still sitting at her desk and staring at nothing. Hermione decides to ignore the stare as she places the book in the librarians desk.

"Madam Pince, I found a book I really like and I wanted to take it with me back to the dorms."

Miss Pince seems to realize she's there and continues to stare at her with vacant eyes. Hermione stares back feeling an odd shift in her mind. She'd felt it slightly before when she'd looked Pince in the eyes. The feeling of just knowing that looking at a person will make them do what you want.

Was this some type of vampire power?

"Alright."

Pinces state is never ending even as Hermione runs over her newest vampire theory. She states into Pinces eyes with even more meaning and force. She can see the librarians pupils dilate rapidly as Hermione stares.

"Will you do anything I say?"

Pince nods once again. Hermione considers her next move before staring into Pinces eyes and speaking her command.

"Touch your nose twice."

Pince immediately taps the bridge of her thin nose twice and Hermione feels giddy at the sight of her mind control working.

"Don't tell anyone that I was here or ever took this book from the restricted section."

"I will not tell anyone that you were here or took this book from the restricted section."

Pince recites the words back to her and Hermione almost giggles with delight. Pince goes back to staring into the distance as Hermione walks away.

She decides to curl up somewhere new.

Hermione walks out of the library and tries her best to move swiftly throughout the corridors. Many students either side eye her or don't even waste a glance as she speeds past them. She considers using her vampire speed but the chance of accidentally outing herself was too high.

So she continues on, ignoring all passing  Gryffindors that try to speak to her. Even Neville tries his hand at stopping to her but she shoots him a glare and he falls back against the wall.

Eventually she ends up where she wants to be.

"Don't you know that students aren't allowed up here Hermione?"

She nearly drops the blue book from her jump. The voice of Fred Weasley comes from the window next to her. She hadn't even seen him.

Hermione steps closer and can feel magic surrounding him. He'd put up a Notice-me-not charm.

It was working well seeing as she hadn't noticed him.

"Where are you going little lady?

He sits up from the window he'd been leaning against. His brows wiggle as he watches her.

"I'm just...going to read."

Hermione grips the book even tighter than before, fearing that the twins other half was just around the corner waiting. Fred's eyes shoot to the book in her hand and then back to her slightly panicked face.

"What's got you worked up Herms?"

She grimaces at her nickname for her. She hated it but Fred claimed that everyone else already called her Mione and he wanted something different.

Plus, he liked pissing her off.

"Nothing. Just walking."

"I thought you said you were going to read."

"That too."

She answers too quickly. Fred clicks his tongue and shakes his head.

"From what I'm hearing lately, you're quiet the rebel. Staying out after hours. Skipping a full day of classes. Neglecting your Head Girl responsibilities."

Hermiones head almost explodes.

She'd forgotten that she was Head Girl. It had been the reason she was able to even go to the Astronomy tower last night.

She had been doing rounds when she told Ron to just go ahead without her. He'd given her an odd look but left back to the common room anyway.

If only she'd gone with him.

"I'm...I have good reasons as to why I've been doing those things."

"Oh really?"

Fred stands from the wall. He slowly walks over to her. Hermione stands still, clutching the book in her hand. He comes close enough to tower over her.

Hermione is suddenly rendered speechless.

"Y-yes. Yes really."

Hermione finds herself having to take a deep breath after she speaks. Fred towers over her, his smirk shining down like a beacon of light. The smirk never leaves his face as he squints his eyes.

"I think you have a secret."

Hermione fights a gasp. Was it that easy to tell? Had her eyes accidentally flashed? Had her fangs again? Did she still have blood on her?

"I-why would- no!"

Hermione curses herself for being so easily intimidated by him.

Why was he even standing over her this like this? Questioning her? What was he trying to do?

Fred laughs and takes a step back.

Hermione can finally breathe again.

"Relax Herms! I'm just joking."

Fred leans against the window ledge again. His eyes move from her lower half to her upper half. Hermiones cheeks go red as she realizes what he was doing.

Fred Weasley was checking her out.

"Are you alright though?"

His smug gaze had gone alittle softer. His nose quirk alittle as he stared at her.

Hermione could barely function after the revelation. Fred Weasley had been flirting with her? He possibly liked her??

"Herms? You there?"

Hermione blinks and see finally see the hand that Fred had been waving at her while she'd been mulling over his flirtation.

She clears her throat and shrugs.

"Yea. I'm okay."

Freds smug returns at her whisper.

"Alright then. I'll leave you to your reading and trespassing."

He stands from the window once again and moves past her. She feels him pause right next to her. She turns her face to look up at him. His smug isn't gone persay but he looks like he's attempting to figure something out.

"Seriously though. If you need any help Hermione, talk to me. Y'know I have a nack for trouble."

He winks at her before moving past her and not sparing a second glance.

Hermione almost falls it her knees at the lack of oxygen in her lungs. Her heart was pounding and her mind had begun to recount all of the times her and Fred spoke. All the times she'd passed his behavior off as normal boy behavior.

The arsehole had been flirting with her.

Was it only because of her heightened emotions that she finally realized it? Had she become more hypervigilant?

She considers chasing him down, pinning him to a wall, and forcing the truth out of him with her new mind control powers.

But she settles on only using the power when needed and she could definitely stay in the dark about this situation.

"Ugh, boys!"

She sighs and slightly shakes her head.

She needed to get away from all this. She knew the Astronomy Tower would be closed off but she knew somewhere else she could go. Somewhere that didn't reek of death.

Hermione smiles as she continues her adventure through the corridors.
