Chapter 13

The lanterns only lit the corner enough so that he could see her.

"Did you miss me?"

Draco can't see her face. He laughs anyway.

"Of course I did. How couldn't I?"

Their hands are intertwined. Everything in life feels good and safe. Like that one prayer he couldn't remember anymore.

"I missed you too."

He still cannot see her face. Her other hand rests on the nape of his neck. The world is fuzzy and happiness is a reality.

He leans in to her. She leans back. Her face slowly come into the light and he sees-

"Draco!"

A hand colliding with the table underneath him makes him jump out of his sleep. Draco blinks for a moment, allowing the Slytherin common room to stop being so blurry.

It takes a moment for Draco to see who's awoken him from his strange dream. Blaise is standing beside him. His arms are crossed over his chest and he's eyeing Draco like always.

"You good mate?"

Blaise's voice is distinct.

"I'm fine Blaise."

Draco rubs his cheek and lazily stands from his seat. The common room was barren besides the two of them. Blaise doesn't miss a beat, his hand landing on Draco shoulder and pushing him back down into the chair. Dracos bottom meets the chair hard and he yells in pain.

Blaise always had a bit of a heavy hand.

"Now that I've had time to think, we need to speak."

Draco wishes he'd just let Granger go at him.

"Speak about what?"

Blaise hums in disappointment.

"About your lies."

Draco forces his face to stay neutral, his brow only raising in confusion.

"Lies? I haven't lied-"

"That's two strikes now Draco."

Blaise sits in his previous seat, eyes never leaving Draco.

"Don't make a third."

Blaise's eyes thin and Draco swallows the lump building in his throat.

He was definitely fucked.

Blaise continues to eye him as Draco keeps his empty demeanor, staring right back.

Blaise's fingers drum on the table and Draco thanks Salazar that he didn't eat dinner or he might've accidentally vomited all over Blaise.

"So,"

Draco doesn't think it should be humanly possible to be this still but he somehow manages to not move a single inch.

"When did you guys start dating?"

The magic breaks. Draco can't hide the way his eyes widen and his shoulders slump.

"I-I'm-wait you-no!"

Draco watches in horror as the sight of smugness overtakes Blaise's features.

Blaise had it all wrong and Draco couldn't even tell him.

He definitely wished Granger had killed him in the damn Astronomy Tower.

"Oh Draco you naughty naughty boy!"

Draco cringes at Theos obvious influence on Blaise's words but the thought only passes.

This was fucked.

Absolutely fucked.

"Blaise, you've got it all wrong! Me and Granger aren't dating!"

Blaise only snickers and shakes his head.

"Wow. Draco Malfoy inlove with a Mudblood."

Draco fights the urge to correct him once again. He couldn't be suspicious. No matter how much it had begun to kill him to hear that word.

Draco shakes his head rapidly as his words sputter.

"I'm- she's not- it's definitely-"

"Just spit it out Draco."

Blaise rolls his eyes and leans back in his chair. Draco tries to think of any possible way to contain the beast of a lie he’d created.

But as all road led to nothing, he bites his tongue and gives in.

“Since….the end of last year.”

She was most definitely going to murder him.
