Chapter 8
“Where have you been?!”
Ginny voice was beginning to sound a lot like her mothers.
Hermione stops herself from running down the hallway. She’s been walking around the empty corridors for a while but she wasn’t sure how long. She’d come across a few stray students, but none of her friends. Not until now.
Hermione sighs and decides she can’t run. It would only make Ginny more suspicious and suspicion was the last thing Hermione needed. She turns around slowly as red hair comes into view.
Ginny really did look like her mother. Her hand was on her hip and her face was stuck in a position only a mother could make. Ginny gaps her foot on the stone floor repeatedly.
“And where are your robes?”
Hermione only stares back, unable to speak.
“Hello?! I asked you questions!”
Hermiones mouth begins to move in a desperate attempt to form a sentence but she comes up blank once again. Ginny throws her hands up and scoffs.
“We’ve been looking for you all morning! Did you hear about Lavender Brown?”
Hermione nods and attempts to hide the ocean of emotions that the name was beginning to bring back.
“We thought something happened to you!”
Ginny doesn’t waste a second practically jumping forward and squeezing Hermione into a hug. Ginny’s squeezing would usually prompt Hermione to roll her eyes and squeeze back. But instead, all she can hear is the sound of Ginny’s heart.
Hermione looks down and sees Ginny’s smooth pale neck just inches away from her mouth. The beating of Ginny’s heart only seemed to get louder as Hermione could feel the bloodlust coming back. The fangs in her mouth grew uncomfortably and she was sure that her eyes were beady red with red veins underneath.
She needed to get out of here.
“I’m fine Ginny.”
She forcefully pushes Ginny off of her causing Ginny the stumble until she hit the wall. Ginny’s back slams against the wall and she groans in pain. Hermiones hands immediately shoot up to her face as she attempt to cover herself.
“I’m so sorry Ginny! I didn’t mean to-“
“It’s fine. I just didn’t know you had muscles like that! You sure you don’t wanna join quidditch?”
Ginny’s heartbeat becomes faint and Hermione feels her fangs disappear back into her teeth. She removes her hands from her face and sees Ginny giving her another suspicious look. She was doing a shit job at this.
“You okay Hermione?”
Hermione immediately nods and Ginny’s face of suspicion only grows more.
But suddenly it all drops and Ginny just smiles at her.
“Come on! You can tell me where you’ve been while we walk to lunch.”
Lunch? Hermiones stomach turns at the idea. Could she even eat regular food anymore? Would she be able to withstand the noise of the Great Hall?
She could already hear the chatter clearly from the end of the second floor where they stood. Ginny grabs her bicep and drags her down the staircase next to them. Hermione thankfully keeps her footing as Ginny walks.
“So?”
Ginny raises a brow.
“So what?”
Hermione attempts to sound nonchalant.
“You gonna tell me who gave you that gorgeous necklace?”
Hermiones eyes widen and her jaw slacks. So much for being nonchalant.
Ginny just stares back at her, a smug smile on her face. She continues to hold on to Hermione but doesn’t drag her anymore as they reach the bottom of the staircase. Ginny lets go of Hermiones arm and moves her hands to Hermiones chest instead.
“Don’t worry. I won’t tattle to Ron or Harry.”
Ginny tucks the necklace under Hermiones shirt, giving her a wink. She takes a still shocked Hermiones arm again and they restart their walk to the Great Hall.
“I think you deserve to have a good little romance without either of those buffoons interfering, no?”
Romance?!
“Ginny! I’m not dating anyone!”
“Ohhh…”
Hermione nods and Ginny leans in to whisper.
“So it’s just a casual hookup then?”
Hermione lightly smacks her on the arm but Ginny winces.
“Jeez! I was only joking.”
Ginny rubs her arm and Hermione winces. She really needed to control her new strength.
As they get closer to the Great Hall, Hermione finds the noise in her ears becoming louder and louder. Her head is beginning to hurt and she tries not to sway as Ginny grips her again. They’re almost to the doors when Hermione shuts her eyes and thinks one thing.
Off.
Suddenly the volume drops and the ache in Hermiones head goes away. She sighs heavily in relief, opening her eyes. Ginny lets go of her and raises her brow again.
“You sure you’re okay?”
Hermione thinks about it.
Ginny thinks that she’s seeing someone, which could be a good cover for why she’ll be disappearing a lot for the foreseeable future. She was never really good at improv but the lie flies right past her lips.
“Yes. I just had a late night. I’m just so very tired from….y’know….”
Ginny nods in understanding and she smiles again, a squeal accompanying it.
“When we get back to the dorms later, I need everything!”
Ginny didn’t need to know that Hermione wouldn’t be back until very very late that night. Hermione just nods in agreement as she walks with Ginny into the hall.
Hermiones eyes travel over to the Slytherin tables. No blonde head of hair appears but a running red one does.
“MIONE!”
Ron crushes her in a hug similar to Ginny. Although his hug doesn’t last as long and the faint beat of his heart stays faint.
His hands move to her face as he cups her cheeks into his palms. Hermione blushes at the somewhat intimate touch and can’t fight the smile crossing her face. A small tingly feeling builds in her stomach as Ron looks at her with worrisome eyes. She brings her hands up to his own and rests them onto his. Her thumb rubs the soft skin on the back of his hand.
“I’m okay Ron.”
She feels lovesick as she stares into Rons eyes. She watches his eyes soften and her heart soars. Did being a vampire really amplify her emotions that much?
“She’s my friend too Ron.”
Harry’s voice breaks them out their trance.
They both drop their hands. Hermione shivers at the cold feeling on her cheeks where Ron’s hands had previously been. Ron moves to the side and Harry attacks her in a hug aswell. He too doesn’t hug her too long and pulls back, giving her a once over himself.
The sight made her wanna laugh and cry at the same time.
These were her boys. Her best friends. They were terrified when she was gone and got worried sick looking for her. They didn’t even know why she was gone. They would probably never believe it if they knew the truth. They saw her as good. Too good.
If only they knew she was anything but.
“Come on. We have a lot to talk about.”
Harry wave and Rons follows him as he walks back towards the table, Ginny and Hermione follow. The boys separate to the opposite side and the girls take the seat infront of them. Hermione nods to Neville, Dean, and Seamus who sit across from her and next to the boys. Harry takes his wand from his robes and waves it. The room gets noticeably more quiet and Hermione figures he’s casted a silencing charm.
Harry stuff his wand back into his robes before looking to Hermione. Even though the rest of the boys weren’t current apart of the conversation, Hermione could all see them slightly lean into listen to what Harry was about to say.
“Where were you Hermione?”
Harry looks her dead in the eye and she can see Ginny’s red head move to look at her. Harry continues to stare as Hermione think up another lie.
“I was-“
“She was helping me!”
Hermiones neck almost snaps at how fast she looks at Ginny. Ginny’s doing the same nonchalant act she’d done earlier, only a lot better than Hermione had. Harry’s brows fur at Ginny’s words.
“Helping you? You said you didn’t know where she was?”
“I was lying. I needed help with some personal stuff.”
Ginny leans forward and is practically over the table before whispering again.
“Personal…GIRL stuff. If you know what I mean.”
Harry’s eyes widen and Hermione holds back a giggle as he grimaces.
“Okay. Whatever.”
Ginny leans back and Hermione almost misses the wink she sends her way.
“But next time just say something, will you Gin? I thought Hermione was…”
Harry’s brows fur again but this time he pinches the bridge of his nose. Hermione just watches him as he calms himself before putting his hand back down. Harry begins to speak again but Hermione what’s him to it.
“I heard about Lavender. About what happened.”
Hermiones hands form two fists under the table and her fingernails waste no time digging into her skin. Harry glances over to Ron who was currently hanging his head low and just staring at the food on the plate.
Hermiones chest aches. He wasn’t even eating! What had she done?
She’s cut off from her pity party by Harry clearing his throat.
“They said she was attacked. Someone or something drained her of blood somewhere between early this morning and late last night.”
Hermione blinks and sees blood on the golden plate in-front of her. She blinks again and it’s gone.
“We were just scared that you…”
Harrys nose scrunches up as a tear falls from his eye. Hermiones hand shoots out from underneath the table, making sure she only lightly gripped Harry.
“I’m okay Harry. I’m right here. I’m alive and I’m not leaving.”
The irony of the last sentence isn’t lost on her. She tries her best to just lightly squeeze his hand before bringing it back into her lap. Harry nods and wipes the tear away.
“Sorry. Didn’t mean to get all emotional there.”
Hermione catches his eye and shakes her head.
“No it’s okay. I understand your concern. Thank for your concern.”
She looks away from Harry and her eyes settle on Ron. The lovesick feeling comes back.
“Thank all of you for your concern.”
She emphasizes the “all” within the sentence as she stares at Ron, a small blush taking over her face. Who knew vampires could blush?
“Please stop eye-shagging infront of my poor eggs!”
Deans remark earns a smack on the shoulder from Ginny. Ron looks away sheepishly and Hermione does the same. She looks down at the previously bloodily plate again but doesn’t miss the snickers of her housemates.
“Either way, we need to talk about this. This is extremely serious. A student was murdered on school grounds! How the hell did they get in?!”
“What if they’re still here, just walking amongst us?”
Hermione feels herself stiffen at Rons words. If only he knew how much of the truth he’d already guessed.
Hermione shifts unconsciously in her seat and releases her hands from her fist.
“I mean, we already have the Ministry seeding it’s way into Hogwarts. We really don’t need to be focusing on anything else now.”
“Of course we do!”
Ron’s voice raises slightly making Hermione jump. He doesn’t take notice.
“What if it’s connected? What if Lavender saw something she wasn’t supposed to and they killed her for it?”
Ron’s eyes had become dark with rage and he was now tightly gripping a knife in his hand. His eyes stay dark but shift behind the girls.
“I could bet you every galleon in the world on who did it.”
Hermione follows his gaze and finally sees the sleek blonde hair she’d searched through the crowd for earlier. Hermione giggles when she sees him. She freezes immediately afterwards, already feeling the judging stares she was receiving. She slowly turned back to the group, all eyes set on her. She lies easily once again.
“Murder? You think HE murdered her?”
Hermione laughs again for good measure and the group seems to untense at her implication. Ron sets his form down and folds his hands into eachother, eyes still baring into her.
“It’s the only logical explanation. That or maybe it was one of his friends. Or maybe both of them. Or all of them.”
Harry nods in agreement and Hermione scoffs.
“You guys are being way too judgmental! We’re just kids! They’re just kids! There’s no way they killed her. Or anyone for that matter!
Hermione didn’t understand why but she was becoming increasingly protective of her rival house.
Stupid ferret.
Ron just rolls his eyes while Harry bites his lip and looks away. Hermione finds herself scoffing again and stands from her seat. The sound of the Great Hall comes back stronger than before. Hermione fights the urge to use her vampire speed to run out of there, opting for a very fast walking paste.
She hears Ginny call after her but ignores it. She was almost out into the corridor when she crashed into someone. Someone smaller than her.
She steps back to see Colin Creevey staring up at her with apologetic eyes. But it’s not the eyes Hermione was worried about. It was the fact that Colin had a bruised eye and a bloody nose. A bloody nose that had been previously clogged but was now leaking again after their collision.
Some blood drips on the floor as Colin rushes to pick up his tissue.
“Sorry Hermione. Had a run in with a bad bully. You know how it is.”
She stays silent as the boy rushes past her.
Hermione stays where she’s standing. Her eyes move to the blood that now resided on the floor, right next to her sneaker. It smelled so sweet and fresh. The smell made her mouth water.
She begin to imagine what it would be like to rip Colin’s neck open like she’d done to Lavender. How he would scream and wrath in her grasp. How good his innocent blood would taste. How warm his blood would be.
She began to kneel down and reached her hand out. She bent her knees fully and swiped some of Colin’s blood from the floor onto her fingertips. She slowly brought his blood to her face, sniffing the red liquid.
She could feel the ache of her fangs once again and the surge of blood that shot to her eyes. She had begun to put the blood into her slightly opened mouth when someone appeared infront of her.
“Granger!”
Malfoy whisper yelled to her. She could barely hear him over the hums of heartbeats surrounding her. Oh how hungry she was.
“Get up!”
She continues to sniff the blood, ignoring him. He seems to not want to wait any longer and grabs her by the arm, quickly pulling her out of the Great Hall and into the hallway. Hermione isn’t able to focus on him dragging her. Her eyes stay glued to the blood that was now trailing it’s way down her fingertips.
Draco pushes her into what looks like an empty classroom behind Hermiones hand. She hears him mutter something and the distant sound of the door locking reaches her.
“Hermione?”
Hermione blinks after hearing the use of her given name. Malfoy is standing infront of her with his hands on her shoulders. He’d been shaking her the entire time. She drops her hand and blinks again. She feels something solid underneath her along with her swinging feet. He’d placed her on a desk.
Hermione cocks her head slightly and squints.
“When did we get on a first name basis?”
Malfoy gives her a look of annoyance and drops his hands from her shoulders. She feels a similar chill that she did before with Ron. Only this time she wasn’t accompanied by a lovesick feeling. Only the feeling of being very very hungry.
“What happened back there?”
Malfoy is still standing in front of her, hands on his hips. Hermione shrugs.
“Colin had a nosebleed and bled on the floor. I just…”
Hermione shrugs once again, eliciting a grunt from Malfoy. Hermione jumps down from the desk Malfoy had placed her on and steps forward. Malfoy continues to stare at her.
It was different from Ron’s stare. His had been full of worry and love. Draco’s was calculated and annoyed. Hermione considered ripping out his heart aswell. She pushes the thought away immediately, reminding herself that she was only thinking like that because of the blood.
“Do you…”
Draco crosses his arms, continuing with the cold stare. Hermione takes another step foward and stares up at him. Wow. He really was tall.
They have a bit of a staring contest. Malfoys cold gaze against Hermiones hungry one. Her fangs still haven’t gone away and neither have the urges to bite. Malfoy holds out his wrist, not breaking eye contact.
“Go ahead.”
Hermione continues to stare. He’d offered himself up like he promised he would. Her personal blood bank. All hers. No one else’s.
The thought made her shiver.
“Fuck it.”
She breaks eye contact and focuses her attention onto his wrist. She tilts her head upwards and allows her fangs to fully grow before quickly sinking them into Malfoys wrist. She hears him groan in pain but ignores it. The blood sinks into her fangs and she begins to drink from the punctured skin.
It was so delicious. He was so delicious. Lavenders blood hadn’t tasted anything like this. Hermione continued to suck but tried to hold back and remind herself that she was to feed, not kill.
Her strength takes over once again as she pushes Malfoy up onto the wall not that far behind him. Hermiones fangs go deeper into his skin as she feels his opposite hand rest on the back of her head, pushing her to lay it onto his shoulder. She continues to drink as Malfoy smooths out her hair from behind.
“It’s okay. I’ve got you.”
The reaffirming whisper send shocks right to Hermiones core. She almost bites his neck aswell when she hears him moan again. Wether in pain or pleasure, it didn’t matter. It was all becoming very sexual very quickly.
Hermione releases Malfoy wrist from her grasp as her fangs slide back into her teeth. She pick her head up from his shoulder but Malfoys hand doesn’t drop again. Instead, his hand finds its way to the side of her face like Ron’s had earlier.
His gaze had changed. It was no longer cold and distant. There was something new and exciting behind his eyes. Hermione didn’t know if she was ready to find out what it was.
“You good?”
Malfoys raspy whisper slips from his lips once again. Hermione can only bring herself to nod. His hand continues to cup her face but he begins to inch it away from her check and to her lips. She sucks in a breath as his thumb slowly wiped over her lips, collecting his blood from her. She watches as he observes the blood like she had, before sticking his thumb into his mouth to completely suck off the blood.
Hermione almost falls to her knees at his movements. A smirk forms on his face and he hums.
“I felt like I should get a taste aswell, since you seem to like my blood so much.”
His smug face makes all shivers and quivers disappear. She rolls her eyes and instinctively reaches for her wand. She’d forgotten that it was still on her. She hesitates slightly as she grips it in her hand. She waves it and mutters Tergeo.
She waits.
Nothing happens.
She can feel Malfoys eyes on her and she tries to not break out into a sobbing fit.
She tries again.
The blood stains her pink shirt.
She tries again.
The blood does not disappear.
Hermione screams in frustration and throws her wand at the door next to them. It slams against the wooden door and drops onto the floor, snapping in half. Her eyes widen in horror as her heart drops to her stomach.
Her wand was gone. She’d snapped it in half. The only thing she had left connected to her magic, even if she didn’t have any anymore.
Rage rips through her. She doesn’t notice the shaking desks behind her. She breathes in and out quickly as the rage overtakes her. She doesn’t notice the walls shaking and stone falling.
“Grang-“
She screams and her hands shove Malfoy back into the wall. Her hands stay held outwards as the lights flicker and shake. Malfoys is pinned to the wall, slowly creeping up higher and higher as he yells. She can’t hear him. Everything is too loud.
The entire world is tilted.
Everything is wrong.
It would never be right again.
The shaking world doesn’t stop the Stupefy that Malfoy sends her way.
