prologue
In their sixth year of Hogwarts as the snow of late February melts, two boys are cuddled up in bed after a full moon. Remus sore all over looks up at the dark haired boy that lay beside him and can't help but smile. He was glorious. Yes Remus John Lupin was in love with his best friend, how cliche.
"What's going on in that brilliant mind of yours Moony?" Sirius asks, hiding his smirk when he sees the blush rise on remus' checks. "It's a secret I can't tell you" Remus whispered. "Oh come on Moons I'm your best friend you can tell me" Sirius gently bumped their shoulder into the other boys. "No Pads if I tell you you won't want to be near me anymore" Remus looked down at the comforter. "Oh you said that about your furry little problem and look how that turned out, I'm a wicked dog now! So you have to tell me now and I promise I will not go anywhere you're stuck with me for life!" Sirius exclaimed. Remus couldn't help but smile at that But still didn't look up "fine, fine ok I am...I'm...I..er..I am..I'm in love with you Sirius" Remus stuttered not willing to look up and see the disgust on the other boy's face. He was wrong though, Sirius was far from disgusted. "Really?" Sirius grinned. Remus nodded, not looking up and carried on fiddling with the blanket. Sirius' smile widens more than was thought possible and before Remus could react he had a lap full of him "Merlin, you don't know how long I have wanted to hear that" Sirius said cuddling up to the werewolf "you mean...." "Yes my Moony I'm in love with you too" Sirius leans up and kisses him sweetly before they both cuddle down together. The boys and Lily can wait until tomorrow to hear of this new development.

Two years later in the summer of 1979 Remus and Sirius stood holding hands smiling as they watched their best friend James Fleamont Potter marry Lily Jane Evans, the love of his life in the large back garden of his childhood home with all their closest friends and family.

Sirius and Remus' wedding was only a month after the Potter's and was a very small affair. The guest list consisted only of James, Lily, Fleamont and Euphemia Potter and Remus' friend from the Muggle world Grant and his mother Hope. Although it was small it was a beautiful day and the after party was altogether spectacular. The ceremony was held in a field of flowers under an archway of roses near Hope’s cottage where the after party was held.

On one autumn day of 1979 the Potters and Lupin-Blacks were out on an evening walk and picnic. They had sat down near a lovely glistening lake and Sirius was serving around wine while Remus handed around the food he had made. "None for me please Siri '' Lily said. Sirius shrugged and did not think anything of it and carried on filling James' glass. Remus on the other hand was suspicious. "Are you sure Lil's? It's your favourite" "thank you but I'm sure" "okay..." Remus shrugged. Sirius finished pouring his glass and put the bottle away. "You forgot Moony Pads “ James said in between bites of his sandwich. "No I didn't" Sirius smirked "he can't have any''. "Why? The full moon isn't for a few weeks." Remus and Sirius looked at each other before Remus spoke up "I can't have any because I'm pregnant." He smiled. Lily and James looked at each other and smiled. "Looks like we have two baby showers to plan in the middle of a war" James laughed before being sent flying backwards by Sirius hugging him....

On the 31st of July 1980 Lily gave birth to a baby boy named Harry James Potter and only two months later Remus and Sirius Lupin-Black were blessed by a beautiful baby girl named Blaze Phoenix Lupin-Black who was born on October 16th. The two babies were always together and seemed to be inseparable from then on. That is until the fateful night of Halloween 1981. Both children were only a year old when their lives were turned upside down and they were ripped away from each other.

Remus, Sirius and Blaze along with the Potter family had chosen to take the two one year olds trick or treating in fancy dress. The Potters went as vampires while Sirius had dressed Blaze up as a mandrake and made Remus go as a sexy teacher as for himself, he went as a student. This choice got a rant and very disappointed and or disapproving look from Lily Potter whereas her husband high fived Sirius. After an hour of walking up the street collecting candy the Potters and Lupin-Blacks retired home for the night.
After getting changed the Potter couple sat in their front room watching their son play with a miniature Hogwarts express that Remus bought him for his birthday and chatted about anything and everything. It was a happy, boring and normal night but unfortunately it would be their last unknowingly to them. (A/N you know what happens next so I'm just going to skip over writing it out and carry on to the Lupin-Black house hold) The Lupin-Black couple return home with their daughter which was fast asleep in Sirius' arms, without a clue that was going to be the last time they will see their best friends.
The Lupin-Blacks had just put Blaze to bed and were sitting in bed watching a film on the Muggle television that Sirius had bought when they first moved in together when Sirius bolted up looking ready to kill. "What's wrong Pads?" Remus asks, approaching the pacing and muttering figure of his husband. "I'm going to kill him!" Sirius says under his breath before looking up at Remus. "Grab Blaze and go in the bathroom NOW!" Sirius says, grabbing his wand. Remus looks confused but goes and does what he said anyway knowing that there must be a reason.
Remus runs into Blaze's nursery and grabs the sleeping bundle of blankets and a toy dog, wolf and deer knowing subconsciously he will need them to soothe her before sprinting to the bathroom. As soon as they are in there Sirius locks them in there. Remus places Blaze on the changing table before running back to the door and banging on it while shouting "Sirius let me out! What's going on?!" "I'm sorry Moony. I can't. I need to protect you both. It's Peter who tells Voldmort where James and Lily are hiding! I can remember the address. He is probably coming here next but I'm not letting that asshole touch you two I can't let it happen." Sirius says frantically. "Please Pads let me out, we can face that noseless twat and the rat together please I love you!" Remus says crying. "I'm sorry. I love you both, please forgive me.... I love you Remus I always have and always will." Sirius also cries before leaving and going after Peter Pettigrew. All Remus could do was fall to his knees crying and praying to Merlin that Sirius would be ok. He stayed like that for a while before picking up the now crying baby and trying to soothe her and himself.....
