Chapter 14
“Evan?” I whispered, opening my eyes and staring at my ceiling.
“Yeah?” he whispered back, squeezing my hand.
I tried not to think about how he was literally holding my hand. I tried to breathe but the feeling of his skin on mine made my lungs and heart want to give out.
“Thank you,” I closed my eyes again as I spoke, squeezing his hand back, praying that he wouldn’t let go, “for you know, for being the best idiot i know.”
“You should learn how to compliment people,”
“Oh but calling you an idiot it is so much funnier,” I laughed, opening my eyes again.
I then sat up, rubbing my eyes.
“Whatever Barty,” he sighed and his hand slipped from mine as he rolled his eyes but I could tell he was trying not to laugh.
I poked him in the side, smiling slightly.
“Come on, you want to laugh,” I teased.
“I’m not going to laugh at your stupid jokes,” he sighed, but he was smiling slightly.
“Oh but I'm so funny!” I exclaimed, flopping back down on his lap dramatically.
“You’re stupid, that’s what you are,” he muttered, rolling his eyes again.
“Oh I know,” I smiled, crossing my arms behind my head, “that’s what makes me special.”
Evan opened his mouth but before he could respond, his phone rang. He took his phone out of his pocket, reading the name.
“Who is it?” I asked.
“Regulus,” he shrugged, putting his phone onto the coffee table.
I opened my mouth to say something else when his phone rang again.
“Just pick it up,” I muttered, sitting up.
“I’ll be back after Reggie stops yelling at me for whatever it was that I did,” he laughed, standing up.
“And how long will that take?” I asked, chewing on the inside of my lip.
“Who knows,” he shrugged, “I'll try not to be gone too long, okay?”
“Okay,” I nodded, smiling slightly. I then flopped back on the couch, staring up at my ceiling, “good luck.”
