Chapter 15
“Hey, what’s up?” I asked, slipping out into the hallway.
“Where are you?” he questioned.
“What do you mean?”
“You were supposed to be at my apartment twenty minutes ago along with everyone else for the party? And you were supposed to bring Barty with you so we could all suffer with you as you desperately pined over him hoping that it would lead you to confess to him?” he explained and I could hear him gesturing with his hands as he spoke.
That's when it hit me. I had agreed to do game day with everyone and I did say that I would invite Barty. But then every time I got close to asking him I got too nervous and said I would do it later. Then he managed to burn the skin off his arm and I completely forgot about game day.
So now I was late and hadn’t even asked Barty yet.
“Don’t tell me you forgot,” Regulus sighed.
“I got a little distracted,” I said slowly.
“Oh? Care to share?”
“Barty managed to burn half of the skin off of his arm,” I shrugged, “and I’m a med student so I’m dealing with it.
“Evan, please don’t tell me you fell for an idiot,” he sighed and I could almost hear him shaking his head.
“Yeah well, opposites attract I guess?” I laughed
“I don’t think you understood me, you’re an idiot to Evan,” he explained, “you need someone smart to balance you out.”
“If you say so,”
“Now hurry up and bring Barty with you,” Regulus ordered.
“Fine, I'll ask him but I can't say he’ll say yes,” I said.
“Just ask him!” I heard Dorcas’ voice rather than Regulus’ this time.
“I will, I will!” I laughed.
“Alright, bye!”
With that i heard the click of the call ending.
I laughed again and slipped my phone into my pocket. Then I turned back to Barty’s door and wandered back inside.
“Hey Barty?” I called, finding my way back into his living room.
“Yeah?” he asked, tilting his head to the side slightly as he propped himself up on his elbows.
“So I may or may not have forgotten that I agreed to go to Regulus’ party today and they told me to invite you but I completely forgot about it when you managed to burn like all the skin off your arm,” I explained, running my fingers through my hair.
“And when are you supposed to be there?”
“Uh….well, i was supposed to be there fifteen minutes ago,” I admitted, running my fingers through my hair.
“You’re an idiot,” he sighed, shaking his head.
“How many times are you going to call me that?” I asked, trying to keep myself from blushing. It was such a stupid word. If i heard it from anyone else i barely registered it but when it came from Barty, i couldn’t seem to get my heart to stop pounding.
“How ever many times it takes to get through your head,”
“Whatever you say,” I sighed, shaking my head, “now come on, we don’t need to be any later than we already are.”
“Who said I’d go?” Barty questioned but I grabbed his hand, pulling him to his feet.
“I did, now come on,”
