Tales from the Wizarding World

Sweet as Syrup

The bass pounded in Hermione's ears. The crowd of people growing by the minute. Hermione never would have expected that she of all people would be at a party, especially not one with alcohol and drunk school kids. But of course Harry and Ron had to convince her to accept Draco’s invitation to be his date to the party. While she was a bit shocked when the letter arrived, it was a pleasing surprise. Now here she was, sitting in the Hufflepuff common room, the farthest common room from Umbitch’s office.

“Hey Hermione.” Harry greeted Hermione, walking up to sit beside her on the plush yellow couch. “Where’s Malfoy? Has he ditched you already?”

“No- he just. Yeah, he went off with his friends a while ago. I haven’t seen him since.” Hermione sighed.

“Such an Asshole move, invite a girl to a party then ditch her!? Who does that!” Parvati glared at Harry as she walked by, most likely remembering the night of the Yule Ball.

Harry rolled his eyes before standing up. “Good luck with Malfoy.” He said before storming off into the crowd, no doubt going to find Ron.

Hermione sighed and stood up to go look for Draco. It was hard to specifically identify anyone in the dimly lit hoard of people. But the second she saw his platinum blonde hair she knew it was him. He was standing with a group of his friends, hysterically laughing with a drink in his hand. Hermione internally face-palmed at the sight. He was drunk. VERY drunk. But she couldn’t just walk up to him and drag him away from his friend group. She would have to wait for the perfect time to confront him.

While it felt like forever, it was only a good five minutes till he broke away from the group to grab another drink. That’s when she knew she had to move. Hermione darted up, and quickly started striding towards him. The second she was close enough she grabbed the sleeve of white button down, dragging him out of the common room and into the kitchens.

“What the fuc-“ He started before realizing who his ‘captor’ was. “What was that about?” His words slurred together as he spoke.

“What was that about?! What was that about!!!!!” Hermione's voice started to rise. “All night you have been ignoring me, ALL NIGHT FOR FUCKS SAKE! And you're the one who invited me!!!!” Tears started streaming down her face.

“Chill out, ok?”

“Chill out? Chill out!! How do you expect me to just chill out, I really thought that you liked me! That we would hang out together..”

“I’m sorry, okay? Here, let me make it up to you…” He said before placing a kiss on her lips.

Her voice now calmer than before as she responded to his movements. “Draco stop, Draco.” But he kept kissing her, down her jaw, placing kisses down her neck. But Hermione was not having it. “Draco stop. You’re drunk. If you were sober none of this would be happening.”

Hermione puts her hands on his shoulders, pushing him away from her. “Hermione… I’m not-“ Draco starts to say. But before he can finish his sentence his body gives in to the alcohol and he collapses into her arm.

“Shit!” Hermione struggled to catch him, her muscles slowly giving out as he leaned all his body weight against her. “Damnit Draco. You just had to collapse the moment we were alone?!”

Hermione wrapped her arm around the small of his back. Supporting his body weight the best she could she managed to get him to the slytherin common room. Hoping to see people inside when she got there, in hope that they could help her. But the hope was diminished the second she entered the dimly lit dungeon. So, with her last efforts of strength, she heaved him up the stairs to the boys common room. She found his room fairly quickly.

“Finally,” Hermione whispered to herself. She managed to lay draco onto his bed. She tucked him under the covers and turned to leave. But a small noise stopped her.

“Wait,” Draco stirred from his sleep. “I’m sorry, for being a jerk. But could you please stay?” His voice was shaking, it made Hermione pity him. “I really like you.” I soft smile crept onto his lips as they locked eyes.

“Fine.” Hermione sighed, secretly enjoying the thought of cuddling with him. “But no funny business mister.”

“No promises.” Draco laughed as she clambered into the bed, snuggling up beside him. “Will you be my girlfriend?” One last final question, before they fell into a sleep as sweet as syrup.

“Yes.”
