im sorry please dont leave me
Regulus looked around the class, his head spinning. He felt dizzy. He had just gotten a letter from his mother and it wasn't good. He was going to be taking the dark mark soon and he didn't know how to live with that. James' would surely hate him for it wouldn't he? What was he going to do? Regulus held his breath. He looked back at his work.
Q1. name the 3 unforgivable curses?
Q2. what happens if someone uses them?
Q3. what do you do if you see someone using them?
He knew he really should tell someone about what was going at home but they only did it because they loved him right? Everyone has a different way of showing love don't they? It cant be that bad. Maybe hes just exaggerating things. It could be worse and plus they only do it when he does something stupid. Its not like you can have detention at home its just the same right? Regulus frowned. He didn't know what happens if someone used them. His mother uses them all the time and nothing happens to her.
"Is there a problem Mr Black?" the teacher asked looking at the boy. Regulus shook his head.
"No sir however what happens to you if you used an unforgivable?" His voice was hesitant.
"You would find yourself a one way ticket to Askaban my boy," he looked at Regulus suspicion held in his eyes. He was trying to figure him out. He was failing; Regulus always had high walls put in front of his emotions. Not even his bother could figure him out these days. Of course he has had years of practise.
Regulus did the rest of his work as quick as he could his eyes stinging as he remembered. He suddenly felt the need to hurt. If Sirius went through this for him he needed to feel it as well. maybe it would make up for getting the mark. He doubted it. Could anything make up for it? He remembered what Sirius said he would rather die than get the mark. Why couldn't he be more like Sirius? Regulus wondered why he couldn't be as brave as his brother. Maybe he wasn't meant to be. He was meant to be the one who drowned too scared to swim as Sirius rushed over splashing and fussing to get to him. Even though he could technically solve it himself all he had to do is kick his legs. He just didn't have the courage. That hurt.
Regulus felt his eyes sting. Shit, he thought. Not in class. He raised his hand for the second time that lesson asking for something. Pathetic he thought. What would mother say? Fuck what would Sirius say?
"Mr Black,"
"please may i go to the toilet?" he asked quietly. The teacher nodded silently.
Regulus practically ran down to the toilets his his brain hurting. Ever since Sirius ran away Regulus couldn't stop thinking about him. What did he do wrong? Why wasn't he enough to make Sirius stay? Regulus only stayed for Sirius. The only reason he's still alive; Sirius saved him. Regulus ran into a cubical. it was small and cramped. He pulled out his wand. what was that spell mother taught him? the one that made him bleed? she wanted him to use it on-
He didn't finish that thought. He didn't want to remember. He didn't like the memories they were always so so bad. He remembers the blood of every night. He remembers the battered and bruised form of his brother every night. He remembers every time it was to protect him. Every time Sirius would hurt because of Regulus he remembered. Diffindo, the spell mother would use on them Diffindo. That was it.
Regulus held out his wand muttering the spell. Again. And again. And again. He looked down at his arm like it was a work of art. In his eyes it was. Art is meant to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.
Regulus looked at the blood slowly drip down. A red coat wrapping around his arm. It was warm. It brought him back to reality. Shit, he thought for the 3rd time that day. How the hell was he supposed to clean this up? He walked with haste to the sink rising his arm under the warmish water. It left a small pink tint. It looked like a bracelet wrapped around his wrist. It was oddly beautiful. Regulus wondered how something so beautiful could be so guilty; full of hate and fear. So many people were scared of it. Regulus didn't know why. It wasn't that bad.
He wrapped his arm up in some tissue waiting for it to stop bleeding. It didn't stop. Regulus knew he had already taken too long and would be questioned when he got back. He didn't wait. He grabbed his wand and left, heading back to class. He could always blame peeves. Fucking poltergeist. Regulus always did hate him. Well hate's a strong word. He didn't like him though. Regulus smiled to himself as he walked through the door. Everyone had left. Guess class finished early Regulus thought. As he bent down to grab his things, he felt light headed. Everything was spinning and he didn't know how to stop it. He sat on the floor; looking at his arm, it was still running. Shit. He lost count of how many times he had thought that today. Regulus looked up as everything went black.
James and Sirius were walking the halls. A new idea just begging to be tested. They needed to find a new classroom clear of any teachers and/or students. Marlene told him where to go saying the class is always empty at this time. She was right as they walked into the room no one was there. Sirius looked up and to James.
"do you smell that?" He asked worry lacing his words.
"smell what?"
"Blood can you smell it?"
James looked around the room surely enough, he found a red ribbon of blood guiding him to a body. Guiding him to Regulus. James collapsed on the floor. He heard a shout. who shouted? Oh. He did.
"SIRIUS HELP!" James didn't know why he called Sirius this was his brother. It worked though.
"Shit shit shit. Okay James its okay I've got him just go get Poppy yeah?" His voice was panicked though he tried to stay calm. James stood up and took off running down the halls to the hospital wing. He knew how to get there from anywhere. As he crashed through the doors, he saw Remus in a bed with Poppy close by.
"Poppy please you have to be quick Reg he's I don't even know if he's alive please," His voice rushed as tears streamed down his face. He didn't even know if she could understand him. Apparently she could.
"take me to him now," her voice was rushed with urgency. So James again was running down the halls now with the nurse not too far behind. James ran into the classroom first to see Regulus awake with Sirius. Sirius had his head in their lap quietly stroking through his short hair. Regulus was avoiding his brothers gaze eyes locking onto James instead. James could cry again.
Before James could get any words out, Poppy started her work and unfortunately for Regulus this meant asking questions. Regulus didn't know what to tell her. Should he lie?
Before he could get a word out Sirius answered for him. "He did it himself. I don't know why but i do know he did it himself. I believe i know what spell he used as well," Sirius' voice shook a little as he spoke. He tried to keep calm but he was fighting back tears. "The spell is called Diffindo. Mother taught him it i believe. Am I right Reg?" Sirius tried to give a small laugh but it came out wet and broken. Why would Reg do that, he thought sadly.
Poppy glanced down to Regulus who nodded silently in confirmation. How did he just know? Poppy gave the brothers a sad smile. Sirius did the same thing at the start of the year. He was so angry at himself for leaving Regulus he did the same thing, only Sirius got brought to her by Remus. The brothers were similar in so many ways and neither one knew or admitted it. Poppy set out transfiguring some paper into bandages for the boy. He looked so much younger in his brothers arms. She wondered how often they used to do this. It just looks so natural for them. It nearly hurts.
Sirius looked at Regulus. Eyes wet with tears, face pulled into a sad expression. Regulus reached up placing a finger in-between his brothers eye brows. "please stop looking so sad. I hate it when you look sad," his voice was so soft Regulus doubted if it was even his. James looked the pair. He wanted so bad to help but what could he do? He didn't even know.
Regulus looked from one to the other. James spoke up,"I'll um I'll go now."
"no I'm sorry please don't leave me," Regulus called out voice filled with panic.
"Okay okay I'm here I won't leave," James walks over and sits next to Sirius brushing some hair out of Regulus' face. "I'm right here darling okay?"
Sirius looked up at James eyes wide. "What. The. Fuck. did you just say," James looked terrified as Regulus laughed.
"You know when you said that you only wanted me to date someone as good as James?" Regulus asked a small smirk on his face,"I did one better and started dating James."
Madam Pomfrey stifled a laugh as she held up Regulus' arm. Sirius looked to his best friend. "Please tell me your not fucking my brother," Sirius closed his eyes as James laughed. Regulus spoke up instead,"Oh brother he has done far more than fuck me."
Sirius was dramatic as ever making odd noises and pretending to puke. Everyone was laughing forgetting about why they were all there. For one moment everything seemed perfect like nothing in the world could be wrong. Everyone happy and smiling something no everyone would see. However in that moment lots was wrong. Regulus was still bleeding, Sirius blamed himself, James felt guilt for something he didn't know about and the school nurse was cleaning blood from a boy who was all skin and bones. There will never be a time when everything is perfect but it was damn near close to being alright. Even if there is a war going on, someone has to find the light. For Regulus he had two people filling the air with light; his brother and his boyfriend.
All good things must come to an end eventually. The laughing stopped, smiles slid off faces and Regulus again was faced with an impossible statement.
"Master Regulus has been requested,"
he woke up.
