Look at me star struck
There’s Mr. football captain and the pretty girl he was with during the show. We keep these passes very limited, only 5 people can get them. Just to ensure that everyone actually gets time to have a conversation with me.
When the actual meet and greet starts he doesn’t say anything, letting everyone else go before him.
I talk with the others about how long they’ve been fans, what their favorite song of mine is theirs, take pictures and sign autographs. They all go before I talk to the one, I want to talk to the most. When the redhead comes up to me for her turn, I ask her for her name first and foremost.
“Lily, Lily Evans.”
“Hello Lily, you’re absolutely gorgeous, I’m actually jealous.” She blushes and laughs.
I ask her the usual questions, but it feels a bit more intimate, knowing her name and all.
We take a couple of pictures together, usually it’s on a photographer’s camera and they hand out a QR code so they can see and download their photos. But I tell her to take her phone out and get a few selfies of us together.
When we finish, she walks over to the guy – who in the light is drop dead stunning – and lets him know she’ll be waiting for him outside.
“And can I know what your name is?”
“J-James Potter.” He flushes red, it’s beautiful.
“Well hello James, you think your team will forgive you for tonight?”
“Probably, they’ll get over it though. Hopefully.”
“Facetime your co-captain, I’ll apologize on your behalf.” I hold my hand out waiting for his phone.
He busts out laughing and fishes his phone out unlocking it and passing it to me when it starts ringing.
It only takes a few rings before a pretty girl answers the phone and immediately starts raging, not looking at the screen.
“James, I swear to God when I see you next you are dead meat! You’re lucky we won tonight otherwise…” She trails off when she finally looks at the screen and realizes it’s in fact not James she’s yelling at.
“Holy shit!” She brings the phone closer to her face as if she was trying to see if I was real or not.
“Hello, I wanted to apologize for keeping James away from his game tonight. No hard feelings I hope.” She just stares at me mouth agape.
I muffle a giggle and hand the phone back to James, who looks at the phone, smiles at the person on the screen, waves bye then hangs up.
“I think that worked.” He laughed, nodding, still holding his phone in his hand.
“Actually, let me see that again.” He passed me the device without a second thought.
I go ahead and take a couple of pictures of myself on it, before beckoning him over and taking a few pictures together. Without much thought I took his phone with me over to
where mine was resting and typed my number into his phone.
I pass it back to him and wait expectantly. Watching him carefully as he stares at the numbers, unblinking.
“Well, give it a ring.” I say holding my phone in my hand. I can almost see the gears turning in his head as he tries to figure out if this is real or not.
After nearly 30 seconds he pressed the little call button, and my phone rang. I saved it by naming him Mr. football captain. He smiles when he sees the name I gave him in my phone.
“There we are, don’t make me regret that now. Shoot me a text sometime.” I wink at him and write my name on his sign with a reminder to text me in case someone asks and doesn’t believe him.
“Right! I’ll- I’ll do that!” He’s still flushed red.
Unfortunately, he does eventually have to leave, and I don’t realize until he’s gone, I didn’t even ask if he liked blokes.
Well, if he turns out to be a weirdo, I can just block him and change my number.
Maybe 3 minutes later my phone dings with a text notification.
Mr. football captain: Get home safe :)
Me: If you insist
I laugh to myself for a moment, pocketing my phone when I hear the door open once again. Sirius is there, but not wearing a smile like he usually does at the end of my shows.
My joy leaves immediately, our parents are here to talk.
It doesn’t take long after that thought for them to walk in. They have an air of I am better than you and I feel like a child trying to hit the correct notes while my father sighs in disappointment as my mother screeches at me to stop fooling around.
“Mother.” I greet her.
“Father.” I add.
“Hello Regulus, your show was… satisfactory tonight. Quite the crowd, I’m sure your brother couldn’t do the same.” My mother says not bothering to fully look at me or Sirius.
I’ve learned to bite my tongue. A few years ago, I might have agreed with her but now I know just how popular his art truly is and just how much people pay for one of his paintings.
My father doesn’t say anything to me. And after a few polite words with them, they take their leave assuring me they’ll be in touch soon.
I’d prefer they didn’t.
Once they’re fully gone Sirius’s smile returns to his face, it’s a relief. It’s much better when it’s just us, when we’re free to actually talk and not just be criticized. Sirius doesn’t actually keep in contact with our parents. When he was in school, he stopped coming home for a while, staying with one of his mates. We really connected when he invited me to his first gallery, and I was presented with portraits of us in his truly depressing art style.
“How was the meet and greet?” For some reason I feel myself blush slightly which to my dismay catches his full attention.
“Oh! Spill! Tell me everything immediately!” He sits down and places his head in his hands watching me expectantly.
“I gave my number to a fan- “I watch his mouth drop “- I don’t really know what I was thinking, he was… quite fit. I called his teams co-captain and just added my number in his phone.”
“Did you catch his name?” He questions leaning forward, fully invested.
“James. James Potter.” If its possible his mouth drops even further.
“You’re fucking with me.”
“Why would I do that?”
“James Potter are you sure?”
“Yes, I’m sure thank you. Why are you acting so odd about his name.”
“Well, that’s because… how do I say this? Okay so I knew James. He was the mate I stayed with in school. We lost contact for a while when he moved back to India to take care of his family for a while. We reconnected at one of my art shows, Reggie, he’s the captain for Manchester United’s. He’s super well known, and like my best mate.”
“Oh.” Was all I could get out.
“Yeah…” We sit in silence for a moment.
“How upset would you be if I got with your best mate?” He busts out laughing, hiding his face in his hands as he tries to get a grasp on himself.
“How could I get upset? I want to be, but I can’t its to much irony for me.” I laughed with him.
Even if he did get mad, at least I know James probably isn’t a creep.
“I’m going to have to call him later and ask what he thought of my brother flirting with him.”
“Don’t scare him off, oh and if you’re also friends with Lily give her my number. She’s beautiful. I know tons of people who would kill to get her to model for them.”
He agrees and once we meet up with Barty and Remus, I get the okay to go home.
Sirius drops me off at my flat. He always asks why I don’t get anything bigger than my sensible 3 bedroom; I think it’s just a waste to have anything gigantic when I live alone.
Me: Made it home safely as you asked
Mr. Football captain: Good, I’m happy to hear that! Get some sleep it’s late and I’m sure you’re exhausted!
Me: Yeah yeah, goodnight, James.
Mr. football captain: Goodnight Regulus!
I smile and shut my phone off, he’s probably going to be in for a shock soon when Sirius reveals that I’m his brother. Honestly I just hope it doesn't scare him off immediately, I think it'll be interesting to see where this could possibly go.
