Parental Trauma
When Natasha entered the Den, her eyes immediately trained to three of her teammates, who were all watching their youngest Avenger as she seemingly stare into nothing with a look of horror dawned on her face.
"What are you all doing?" Nat asked.
Clint turned to her, a huge grin on his face. "Adi's brooding."
"Yeah, look at her. I've never seen her like this," Steve added, curiosity and surprise obvious in his voice.
"What do you think she's thinking about?" Bruce pondered.
Clint, who looked far too excited, slammed down a $10 bill on the table. Surprisingly, Adi didn't seemed fazed by the sudden noise. "10 bucks says she Rolf are fighting."
"That's your guess?"
"Why Rolf?"
Clint simply shrugged, still grinning maniacally, when Bruce spoke up after a moment of contemplation. "No, it's not that. I think she made the wrong calculations in her final equation in reverse centrifugal atomization of vibranium."
A curious silence engulfed them and Bruce took the invitation to explain, "Well, you know, it's what she's working on and she literally pulled her hair in frustration the other day when her screen was filled with a big red 'ERROR'."
Steve shook his head, "That's...probable. But this is about Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. Remember, Fury's still asking for the archived information and last I heard, she didn't give him access yet."
Nat simply smirked, "You're all wrong."
They all stared at her as she decided to keep quiet, basking in their curious gazes when Clint broke the silence. "Well, don't keep us in suspense."
"Adi walked in on Pepper and Tony being intimate, with one of Stark's suits."
Another pause as all three men sported varying degrees of emotions. Steve looked scandalized, Bruce confused, and Clint seemed to be torn between amusement and incredulity.
"That's specific," Clint commented after a couple of seconds.
"Oddly specific," Steve added.
Natasha shrugged before making her way towards Adi, the three men following closely. It was unnerving for their youngest teammate to be so incredibly still she didn't look up to their approaching forms. "You alright, Ads?"
"You seem...bothered," Clint added as he sat beside her.
Adi scrunched up her nose, her mouth opening and closing a few times before muttering something unintelligible.
"What?" Steve asked.
"IwalkedinonDadandPepperhavingsex," Adi answered in one breath. Then: "With Dad's Iron Man suit."
The silence was deafening and Natasha's smugness seemed to fill the room.
Clint looked up at Nat and whispered, "You're amazing," as he, Steve, and Bruce handed money over to the Black Widow.
Bruce turned to look at Adi, who still appeared traumatized by what she witnessed if the frown on her face and still stiff and unmoving form were any indication. He tried lightening the situation with an awkward laugh as he said, "At least you didn't see your Dad naked, right?"
"I did."
"I'm sorry, what?"
"I beg your pardon?"
A tilt of her head and Nat guessed, "It was Pepper wearing the suit, huh?"
A sound between a wail and a whimper escaped from Adi as she nodded. "I forced myself to think that Dad only ever had sex once and that was when I was conceived."
Clint leaned over to the other three Avengers, "What, did she pretend half the female population doesn’t exist?"
Steve smacked Clint at the back of his head as Adi stood up, eyes still fixed on nothing as she muttered, "I need Tom to remove that memory."
Bruce turned to his teammates, "Who the hell's Tom?"
Natasha shrugged as she pulled out her phone. "I don't know. Pizza?"
