POV Ominis
The teachers asked us to gather as they were about to announce our afternoon program.
« Dear students. You will have the chance this afternoon to accompagny an auror on the field and observe the mission she is currently working on » declared professor Radagor.
We were now all very exited. This was unexpected.
« Let me introduce you to Miss Parkes. She is the last person to have become an auror in the last 3 years and was once in your shoes » told professor Radagor.
Miss Parkes saluted her old professors and thanked them.
« Hey everyone, nice to meet you all. So this afternoon you will assist me in my mission. I know you are all exited, but remember the danger is real and I don’t want you to put yourself in danger uselessly. Do we all agree ? » she asked.
We all agreed to her terms.
« Great. So let me expalin my mission. We have noticed that muggleborn wizards and witches have been disappearing for a few months now. Not muggles and not wizards or witches. We are activly looking for them hoping they are still alive. But the assaliant never leave a trace, not that we couldn’t find. We have the position of the last muggle-born witch to have diappeared. And my job is to go on the scene to uncover any evidence » she explained.
« So, where are we going ? » asked Samuel overenthousiastically.
« To France ! Everyone hold hands » she ordered.
So we all held our hands, apparating Merlin knows where.
« Where are we ? » demanded Cassandra.
« Welcome to Paris ! » she said joyfully trying to immitate a French accent.. « Follow me to the scene of the crime »
We followed her into an alley, it smelt like a dead rat.
« Here we are. The muggle-born witch disappeared 3 days ago and was last seen here » she expressed. « Now the aim is to find anything that could help, a trace of magic, an object, clothing anything that could leave clues behind »
Everyone was now looking in every corner, even the professors.
Afer a few minutes I heard someone shouting.
« Miss Pakes, I found something » shouted Edmund.
We all rushed to where he was standing.
« Ah, again ! » she exclaimed.
« Whay is it ? » asked Valerian.
« It’s a crow feather. We have found one on each scene of the crime. We think it might be the assaliant’ s signature » she said alarmed.
« But why a crow ? » questioned Samuel.
« The crow must have a significant meaning to the assaliant » she expalined.
« Wait, you said only muggle-borns witches and wizards were victims » I said evidently.
« In deed » replied the auror.
« And were they all French victims ? » I inquired.
« The ones we found with a crow feather yes »
« The question is why only muggle-borns witches and wizards ? How are they different to muggles or witches and wizards ? » questioned Sebastian.
We were now all thinking.
« Maybe because they’re not pure bloods » declared Benjamin.
Everyone shot him a mean look.
« Hey, I’m just stating the obvious ! » he justified.
« He may be right. We all know how pure bloods feel about them. Especially families like mine » I said exasperated.
« That’s it ! » shouted Valerian. « Like your family ! We all know your family is grand, powerful and takes deep pride in being pure bloods. But you’re not the only ones. You’re the British version of this ordeal. But there’s also a french version of your family. La famille Lestrange » she said ardently.
« Yes, I’ve met them before. They are aquaitances of the Gaunt family.» I demanded.
« Maybe we shouldn’t start acusing grand families just because they have a penchant for pure bloods » said Becca.
« Let her speak, I wanto to hear what she has to say » said the auror.
« Guess what the Lestrange emblem is ? » remarked Valerian.
« Let me guess, a crow ? » perceived Sebastian.
« And we all know that the Lestrange have a penchant for dark magic, though it can’t be prooved » I clarified.
« Nice teamwork guys. That’s a great start » encouraged Miss Parkes.
« Miss Parkes, I know the Lestrange family have got a family vault in Paris » said Valerian.
« Where ? » asked MissParkes.
« In the cimetière du père-Lachaise » she replied.
« Interesting. I like you. You’re clever. I say we go and have a look » hinted Miss Parkes.
I could imagin Valerian pleased with the compliment.
We then started walking as the cemetry was not far.
« She’s right you know, you’re the smartest preson I know » I whispered to her ear.
I knew she was smiling.
I took her hand in mine.
« Walking the streets of Paris is supposed to be very romantic » I teased.
« I guess that might be true if one was not solving a crime scene » she chuckled.
She was right. Of course. But that seemed to be the story of our lives.
When we arrived a few minutes later, we entered the cemetry gates. The others were looking for the Lestrange name.
« Here » shouted Cassandra.
We were now all gathered around the entrance of the vault.
« There’s an insciption » said Samuel.
« It looks like latin » noticed Becca.
« It’s French ! » exclaimed Edmund.
« What does it say ? » asked Valerian.
I knew she could speak French. She was so clever she could speak two langages. I guess I also spoke two langages if you count Parseltongue as a langage.
« It says une corbo ney arrashey pa l ... » tried Samuel.
« What are you even saying ? That’s not even French ! » discerned Valerian.
« It’s not even anything » said Edmund laughing.
« Shut up ! » exclaimed Samuel.
« Let me » said Professor Radagor. « Un corbeau n’arrachera pas l’oeil d’un autre corbeau » she read.
« What does it mean ? » asked the auror.
« It means a crow will not pull out the eye of another crow » she translated.
« I know it’s english, but I still don’t get it » admited Sebastian.
« I think it implies that a Lestrange will not betray another Lestrange » told Cassandra .
We all remained silent for a moment.
« Let’s enter the vault. We might find more answers in there » told Edmund.
« Wait ! They are Lestrange. Nothing is ever that easy with our families » I explaimed.
« Good thinking. There must be a trap, or maybe a unusual way in » thought the Auror.
We were now all thinking.
« Ominis, how do you and your family access your vault ? » demanded Valerian.
« Well, we have to talk parsletongue to get in » I responded.
« And parseltongue is one of your family’s pride » she remarked.
« Yes, The Gaunts are proud alright » I said condescending.
« Pride, yes ! And what do you say in parseltongue ? » she asked.
« Euh, … pure blood » I answered still puzzled.
« Yes ! That could work, it’s like some sort of password ! let’s try it ! » said the auror enthousiastic.
« Pure blood » she shouted.
But nothing happened.
« Strange, I was sure it would work » said Valerian dubiously.
« Maybe … it’s about the langage. Ominis’ familly speaks parseltongue, so they must say it in parseltongue. But the Lestrange speak French, maybe you should try it in French ? » suggested Sebastian.
« Yes ! But I don’t speak French » admited the auror.
« But I do. Sang pur » she said decisevely.
And suddenly I could hear like rock moving.
« It worked ! » exclaimed Sebastian.
« Let’s go in » told Samuel exited.
« Wait, remember to always be on your guard. There could be traps » warned the auror.
« Ominis, do you see any shadows ? » asked Sebastian.
« No, I see nothing » I retorted.
« I’ll go first » ordered the auror.
So she entered, and we all followed her in. I was holding Valerian’s hand as we sent down.
I heard others cast Lumos, so it must be dark.
« Wait, I can smell something » I declared.
« What ? » asked Sebastian alarmed as everyone turned around to face me.
« I can smell … death, corpses » I detected.
I could hear sighs of fear.
« Maybe the students should stay here » advised the auror.
« No. If they want to become aurors, they must see, they must know what awaits them » insisted professor Radagor.
« As you wish » she just replied.
The professor was right. We all had to go.
There was another huge room a bit further. We were walking towards it. The closer we got, the stronger the smell was.
Miss Pakes opened the door. It was made of wood as it was squeeking. Then I heard the others cry in disgust.
« What do you see ? » I urged Sebastian.
« … corpses, of … women, men, children » he said his voice trembling of shock.
« Oh no » I said saddly.
I could feel my hand being squeezed. It was Valerian. I pulled her close to me, wraping my right arm around her waist. She also wraped her hands around me.
« They were just like me, why would someone do that ? » she plead, her voice sorrowful.
« Looks like they’re after muggle-borns. Pure bloods believe they shouldn’t be allowed to use magic because they are … unworthy » I explained to her. I hated their way of thinking, it was, despecbable. And killing these poor people was just … foul.
« Unfortunately. But why now ? The Lestrange always knew the existance of muggle-born. Why take action now ? Why is now different ? » questioned the auror.
No one had the answer to that question.
We all just stood there for a short while.
« Ok everyone, let’s get out of there » demanded Professor Herod.
We all went back up to the cemetery. No one dared to speak.
Everyone was still in shock.
« Was it hard ? To see them dead ? » I asked Sebastian.
He didn’t reply straight away.
« I’ve seen death before as you know, but it’s the way they were … they were … tortured, abandoned in there. I think they died of starvation. They were so … thin ... » he said distantly.
How awful. And worrying. If the Lestrange weren’t stopped, they would probably do it again. But how does one stop such a powerful family ?
« Will they be arrested ? » asked Samuel still horrified.
« I … don’t think so. We have found the bodies, but that doesn’t prove that the Lestranges were the ones responsible. There’s just not enoug evidence » explained Professor Herod.
« But the corpse were in their volt ! » exclaimed Samuel.
« That doesn’t prove they are the ones who killed them. We were able to access the tomb, so anyone could have had acess to it too, maybe leaving the bodies there to frame the Lestranges » said professor Herod.
« So they’ll just get away with it ? » questioned Cassandra astouned.
« For now. But the proof we just found might enable the aurors to have them under surveillance » said the professor calmly.
He must be used to seeing bodies and other terrible things if he was an ex-auror.
« I think it’s time we head back to school Professor » declared Professor Radagor.
« But, what will happen to all the bodies ? » asked Cassandra apprehensively.
« Don’t worry, they will be taken back to the ministry, will be identified and given back to their families » assured Professor Herod.
I can’t imagine the horror these families are about to live. Especially for the children. I hated my kind. The Lestrange were no better that the Gaunts. All murderers.
« Come on everyone, hold hands » ordered Professor Radagor.
We all did and apparated to Naunington school in the great hall. We all let go of eachother’s hands, exept I still held on to Valerian’s.
Everyone was still taken aback by what they saw and were very quiet.
« I hope this trip was fruitful for all of you. You can take the time during the holidays to reflect on our trip » said Professor Herod frankly.
Yes, I forgot we were now on holiday.
« Why don’t we regroup in the living room and ... chill after another frightful day » suggested Edmund to us.
« Sure. We’ll meet you there » replied Valerian. « Is it ok with you ? » she asked me.
« Whatever we do, I’m glad to do it with you » I replied softly kissing her forhead.
She chuckled.
« Then let’s » she told.
We all walked to our doorms.
POV Sebastian
A few moments after, Edmund, Cassandra, Valerian and myself gathered in the living room.
« Where’s Ominis ? » asked Edmund.
« He went upstairs to get Nathara » I replied.
« Who ? » he asked.
« Nathara, his snake » I detailed.
« What ?! A snake ?! He has a pet snake ? » said Edmund in disbelief.
« Don’t worry she’s adorable » assured Valerian.
But Edmund and Cassandra didn’t seem convinced.
Ominis then arrived with Nathara on his shoulders.
He sat down next to Valerian on one of the couches, Edmund and Cassandra were on another couch and I sat on an armchair.
Nathara went immediately on Valerian’s shoulders, caressing her cheeks happily.
Valerian pet Nathara gently.
« Yes, hello Nathara » she said amusingly.
« You’re not afraid of it Valerian ? Really ? » questioned Cassandra.
« Nathara’s not a usual pet. She’s very clever and can communicate with Ominis. I was frightented at first, but I quickly realised there was no reason I should be afraid of her » she explained.
« Ah, of course, you can speak parseltongue, so you can communicate with Snakes. What does it sound like ? » said Edmund all exited.
We all laughed to his enthousiasm.
Ominis said something to Nathara, and she came straight back on his shoulders.
« Wow ! That’s incredible. The chances of someone hearing parseltongue our low. Very low. We are so lucky Cassandra ! » he jubilated.
Cassandra was also delighted.
« It’s incredibe. When you speak, you sound like a snake hissing » detailed Cassandra.
« So I was told » replied Ominis.
Ominis then sat closer to Valerian, set his arm around her waist as she turned around slightly to stretch her legs on his thighs. She then smiled at him while he looked at her. Nathara was in ecstacy as she slythered down on Valerian’s thighs, rolling herself up resting there. Valerian and Ominis were both petting her with their wands in their hand.
Cassandra and Edmund also sat closer to one and other, holding hands.
I felt like the third wheel at that moment. They were all so lucky. I felt envious of them, having found love, never feeling lonely. I guess I have myself to blame. I never wanted to be in a relationship before. But I guess that had changed. But I wondered if any woman would want to be in a relationship with a murderer. How could someone ever love me because of what I had done. I condemned myself to an eternity without love. I wasn’t worthy of a woman’s attention. So I guess I’ll always be the third wheel.
I felt down-cast at that moment.
When I looked up, I could see Ominis kissing Valerian passionately, and Edmund whispering to Cassandra’s ear.
Yep, definitely a third wheel. I thought I should go and leave them all to it as I felt useless.
« I think I should go. I have homework to catch up on » I said as an excuse, but it was actually true. I was falling behind due to all these events these past few weeks.
Ominis stopped kissing Valerian and looked in my direction.
« Stay, we’ve only just arrived » he said gently.
« Sorry man. I’ve still got a lot to do. Especially READING » I hinted.
I had to go through the register book also from the hall of prophecy.
« I’ll see you guys later » I said leaving.
« Ok » replied Ominis a bit disappointed.
I just couldn’t stay there and wactch them all night flirting and kissing eachother.
When I arrived in my room, I did my homework for a while. Then I prepared a bag for tomorrow night as we were to spy on the order. Hopefully we’ll get some answers. I put diverse potions in it, for instance the invisibility potion, wiggenweld potion in case someone was hurt, veritaserum in case we could interrogate one of them.
Then I had a shower, got dressed again and read through the register book. I had to go through every name in that book, and it was quite thick so it would take me days to find anything, if not anything at all.
But I had to do it, for Ominis, for these poor people that were murdered in the vault today. I know the Gaunts were not responsible for that, not that we knew for sure though, but they are as bad as the Lestranges. These families had to be stopped.
Then I thought of these women, men and children dead. I felt great sadness. I had noticed in the room there was a strange stone table with inscriptions that I couldn’t read. But this was peculiar. I couldn’t help think that all this was related somehow to the order, or to the Gaunts, that all these events were connected somehow.
I woke up hearing the school’s morning gong. That’s how we all woke up. That meant it was the morning. Did I fall asleep ? I could see the register book still opened on my bed. Yes I must have fallen asleep.
I got up and got dressed, then went for breakfast. I found Ominis and Valerian there.
« Hey. did you sleep well ? » Ominis insinuated with a smirk.
« Yeah, I know I fell asleep. How did you know ? » I asked.
« When I saw you didn’t come down for diner, I checked on you, and saw your shadow sleeping » he told.
« Yeah, I was tired » I admited.
« So are you both ready for tonight ? » I demanded.
« We are. Have you packed the necessary ? » he questioned.
« I have. Anything that could come in handy » I frankly said.
I was starving and was not eating like a true gentleman.
« So, as we have the day off as it’s the holidays, I thought you guys could spend the day together ? » suggested Valerian.
« What about you ? » said Ominis startled.
« Oh, I have things to do, errands to run. And I’m spending some time with Cassandra later. So I’m busy. But you guys should definitely do something together » she said not sounding very honnest.
« Ok. Are you’re up for it Sebastian ? » asked Ominis.
« Sure. It’s been a while since we’ve done anything together, the Sebminis team » I joked.
« Great. I’ll see you guys later then » said Valerian.
She kissed Ominis goodbye, a kiss that lasted longer than intended as I did my best to look away.
Then she got up and left.
« So, what are we up to today ? » I questionned.
« I need your help with something if you don’t mind. And I didn’t want Valerian to be around for this, so now’s a good time » he stated.
I was curious.
« Well, do tell » I insisted.
« Well, I’m going to accept the engagment to Destiny so we can buy more time to find the evidence we need to blackmail my family » he declared.
« ok » I first said.
« But if I accept, I’ll be married to her by the end of next week. So I will accept the marriage proposal on conditions » he said sure of himself.
« ok » I repreated waiting for him to explain the details.
« First condition, they will have to wait until the end of my school year so I can finish my studies, which will allow us enough time to stop them. Second, the engagment between us will not be published and will remain a secret. » he stated.
« Let me guess, you want to keep it quiet for Valerian’s sake ? » I presumed.
« Yes, if people knew, they would ask themselves why is an engaged man betraying her fiancé with another ? People are ruthless, and Valerian would suffer from it. I want to protect her as much as I can » he commented.
« ok » I agreed.
« But I know my family won’t accept my word, they will know all this is just an excuse for me to delay the wedding. I’ve been thinking about this a lot. They will want to make sure I hold up my end of the bargan. So how will they make sure I do ? » he asked me.
« Well, you’re right. You’re word and promissed won’t be enough. Maybe they’ll make you sign a legal contract ? » I thought.
« My family is an adept of dark magic. What’s better than a contract for them ? » he hinted.
« Oh Merlin no. You think they would … the unbreakable vow ?! » I exclaimed .
« Yes, I’m sure they will make me do it, with destiny » he said bitterly.
« But if your intensions are to not marry her, then you won’t have fullfilled your part of the deal, and then, you will die ! » I said angrily.
« I know. That’s where I’m stuck. And I need to find out more about the unbreakable vow. There’s got to be a loophole. There’s always a loophole. We just need to find someone that may be able to explain it to us » he said intelligently.
« Well clearly we’re not going to ask your family » I said obviously.
« No. I was thinking about Isla Black. She was cast away by her family because she married a muggle, which goes against everything the Black family stands for » he deplored.
« Wait, a Black ? From the house of Black ? They are as acient as your family. How do you know we can trust her ? » I said frankly.
« Because she married a muggle. Which means she shares my view about them » he said convinced.
This was pure madness. But I guess we didn’t have a choice.
« Fine. Let’s go and see her then » I agreed.
We finished our breakfast. We then both agreed it would be wiser to travel through portkey as we had never been to Landslope where she lived. It was safer to travel that way. We traveled through the portkey not far from the school that took us to central London. Then took another portkey to Landslope.
We landed not far from the village. So we had to walk there. It was a quiet little village. As we walked through the streets, we could see muggles at every corner. We nearly got hit several times by an animal pulling a sort of huge box. They were mental these muggles !
« Ominis, let’s find that house quickly. I’m not feeling comfortable among them » I confessed.
Ominis and I knew nothing about muggles. We were born and raised in the magical world.
« It shouldn’t be far. Search for the number 89 » he told me.
After a few minutes, we found the house.
Ominis knocked on the door a first time. But there was no answer.
Then he knocked again. This time a woman opened the door. Probably Isla Black.
« Mrs Black ? Isla Black ? » asked Ominis.
« Sorry there’s no such person here » she replied fearfully.
« Wait, I don’t want you any harm. I’m Ominis Gaunt. I think we’ve met when I was a child. I’m the blind boy. Remember ? » he said trying to convince her.
She said nothing for a while.
« I do. You were very badly treated by your family » she told.
« Yes. That hasn’t changed. Look I know you married a muggle. And you were always a defender for their cause. I am to. I’m in love with a muggle-born witch. I’m not like my family. Please, allow us a moment of your time » said Ominis genuinely.
After a short while, she replied.
« Fine. Come in »
We entered the house. It was a strange place. There was no magic. Everything was still. No broom sweeping, no washing the dishes with magical objects. Just complete silence.
We sat down in her living room. The walls were old, grey. The ceiling was made of wood, so was the floor. We sat on her old couch in the sun lounge. It was probably the only bright room in this house.
« Now, what do you want ? » she said brutaly.
« I need your help to understand the unbreakable vow. I think you are familiar with it, as unbreakable vows are a Black speciality? » asked Ominis hesitantly.
« Yes. It was my father. He had made an unbreakable vow with his first wife, my brother’s mother. He swore he would stay by her side, love her and cherrish her always. But then he fell in love with another woman. He also made an unbreakable vow with her, promissing her the same things. But because he had previously made the first vow to my brother’s mother, the second vow turned out to be null and void. But my father thought the second vow would take over the fist one. And he suffered the concequences of his choices » she narrated.
« Meaning ? » I asked.
« He’s dead. If you are to make the same vow twice, the first one is the one that is … valid » she expalined.
« Fascinating ! » I declared.
It was the first time I heard of anything like it. We all know that if you don’t respect your vows, you die. Which he did, because his second vow was null. But it was the same vow. That’s it ! I know how to help Ominis and Valerian !
« Ominis ! I know how to help you ! » I exclaimed.
« Really ? How ? » he asked surprised.
« If your family is to make you go though an unbreakable vow, then you must make the same one with Valerian first. That way, your loyalty lies with her and her only. Then when your family makes you do the same unbreakable vow with the Malfoy cockraoch, it will have to be null as you will have pleadged your allegiance to Valerian first. Don’t you see ? The first vow will cancel the second. So that way, your family will be convinced you have done your part, that you have pledged your word to Malfoy, when in fact we know it will be null. That way it will allow us the time we need to … do our bit and once we have found what we need, you can just cancel your engagment without suffering from the concequences as you will be holding up your vows to Valerian » I procaimed.
I could see he was trying to figure this out.
« That’s interesting. It could work. But you must choose your words wisely while making the unbreakable vow. A simple error could jepoardise everything » said Mrs Black.
« You realy think it could work ? » begged Ominis,
« Well, if the terms and specifics are set properly, then yes » she admited.
« So what kind of terms should it be ? » I demanded.
« I believe you must vow to love her, marry her, to never take another wife while she lives or dies, to do everything you can to unite your families... » she started.
« What ? To unite our families ? That’s never going to happen ! » he exclaimes bitterly.
« Don’t worry. It won’t happen anyway. But think for a minute. If your family is like mine, they will make you vow to unite both your families, because that’s what this marriage is for. So if you vow to Malfoy to unite your families, even if you won’t marry her, then you’ll probably die anyway because you’ll have been unsuccessfull at it as they will hate you for tricking them. So you need to promisse the same to your love so the vow to Malfoy will be null. And because she is a muggle-born witch, and your family probably despises her, they won’t want her family to unite with yours. Meaning you will have done everything you COULD to unite them, and you won’t have failed thus die as THEY are the ones who would be reluctant. It would be their fault, not yours. You would have held your promise to try » she argued.
Merlin this was complicated. Like they say, the devil is in the details.
« So, I have to vow to marry Valerian, to love her, to never take another wife while she lives or dies, to do my best to unite our families. Great. We’ve only been dating for a short time. Maybe she doesn’t want to marry me. Moreover maybe she won’t accept to go through an unbreakable vow ! Which would be perfectly understandable » said Ominis anxiously.
« Ominis, Valerian loves you, more than you think. She said she would fight for you. I know she would do anything to be with you, even go through an unbreakable vow. Even so, SHE doesn’t need to vow the exact same terms if that would ease you » I assured.
I could see Ominis’ face, worried, anxious. But not because of these revelations, he was afraid she would deny him.
« Ominis, please. Give her a chance to prove to you how much she loves you. Don’t let fear get in the way » I insisted.
He looked down to the floor, thinking.
« I .. will think about it. Mrs Black, thank you for your time. You have been very helpful. I wish you well » said Ominis.
« You seem like a good lad. Your friend is right. Love is a powerful thing. If she loves you, then trust me, she’ll agree to these terms » she declared.
Ominis just nodd his head.
We then thanked her and apparated back to Felcroft.
I could still see Ominis troubled.
« Ominis, may I make a suggestion ? » I demanded.
He nodded.
« I know you’re afraid of what she might say, that se might think it’s too much, that she would deny you. But I think you’re wrong. And deep down, you know it. Fear is just clouding your jugement. Do you know what she once told me ? She said she would never stop fighting for you because when you find the one, you never give up. So it’s simple really. Do you love her ? » I asked determined.
He stepped fowards me looking angry.
« You know I do. I love her ! I have found the one whom my soul loves. Loving her was never an option for me, it was necessary. She gives my life real meaning, purpose You know, you don’t marry someone you can live with, I believe you mary someone you can’t live witout. And I can’t live without her. She is my everything » he said with determination and fearless.
« Good. Then are you ready to make her your wife ? Will you spend the rest of your days with her ? » I insinsted with a more serious tone.
He didn’t answer right away. He looked down for a moment, then raised his head looking at me.
« I am » he replied. He looked as he had never been more sure about anythting in his life.
« Great. Now I know an unbreakable vow is no way to propose to a woman. Though you must do it and tell her about it, I suggest you propose to her in a more … romantic way. Make it a true proposal » I suggested.
I could see Ominis’ face perplex.
« You mean, with a ring ? » he demanded.
« Yes, that’s what I mean » I replied.
He was now thinking. I was hoping that my proposition would help him ease his frears and make his intentions real.
« I want to do it. I want to propose to her. I’m ready » he declared.
I smiled. I never thought this day would come.
« I’m afraid you have little time to do so. You will have to accept the enagment with Malfoy very soon » I reminded him.
He nodded in agreement.
« I know what I want to do this afternoon. I want you to help me find the perfect ring. For her. » he exclaimed.
« I’ll help you then » I declared with a smile.
We apparated to Diagon Alley after lunch into a renouned jewlery shop.
Ominis asked the wizard to be able to feel the rings. He took his time to touch every one of them, feeling every detail as the salesman described them. But Ominis wanted a ring with unusulal caracteristics, a unique ring, something that one could feel with it’s fingers, with a motif. So the owner brought him a different ring. It was a beautiful one, simple, elegant. It was made of gold and had two snakes around the ring and between their heads was a emmerald. It was truely magnificent. Of course snakes would please Ominis. And she loved him. So it was perfect for her. He was won over. He knew it would be the perfect ring for her. So he bought it and then we returned to school.
It was now the evening.
« So, when will you propose to her ? » I demanded curious.
« I don’t know yet. For now, we’ve got other things to worry about. Like attending the order’s meeting » he replied sarcastically.
« Yeah. You’re right. Come on, let’s go for diner » I suggested.
I was happy for Ominis. I never thought he would have the courage to marry someday. He was far too shy. But somehow, Valerian helped him overcome his shiness. I guess that’s what love does.
