A new adventure
Chapter 1
POV Ominis
It has been three years since the tragic events unfolded at Hogwarts with my friends, Anne and Sebastian. Unfortunately, Anne's curse has worsened significantly, and it feels like it's only a matter of time before she meets her fate. We kept in touch frequently; I would visit her during every holiday, trying to support her through these tough times. She had chosen to cut ties with her brother, and while I hoped she might reconsider, she remains steadfast in her decision. I truly believe she should see him one last time before she slips into eternal rest, a place where she could reunite with her parents and uncle. Although her brother's actions are questionable, so much time has passed, and I often reminisce about the days when it was just the three of us—Anne, Sebastian, and me—playing gobstones, before Anne was cursed and before Sebastian succumbed to darkness in his quest to save her. I long for those simpler times. By the end of our fifth year, Sebastian left Hogwarts without a word, just like that—he was gone. Anne, not wanting her brother to find her, had to leave her home and went to a secret location known only to me. She made me promise to keep her whereabouts a secret, especially from her twin. In the beginning, Sebastian and I exchanged a few letters, with him pleading for me to tell him where Anne was or to persuade her to reach out to him. I had assistance in crafting those letters, but as time passed, the letters dwindled until one day, I received nothing at all.
These last three years have been incredibly isolating. I found it tough to prepare for my NEWTs exam during my seventh year at Hogwarts since Sebastian was no longer there to support me. Thankfully, the teachers were a great help, especially Professor Weasley.
Now that I’ve graduated from Hogwarts, I’m determined to continue my studies to become an Auror. This has always been my dream, as well as Sebastian’s. We had a plan when we first arrived at Hogwarts: we were supposed to graduate together and then attend the Naunington Academy of Sorcery to study the dark arts for three years, training to become Aurors. We envisioned ourselves as a dynamic duo, Sebastian and Ominis, the "Sebminis" team, the best friends and duelists the world had ever known. Unfortunately, it seems that fate had other plans. I lost both of my friends, and my family, once again, is disappointed in my life choices. From the day I was born, I’ve been seen as a disappointment—first for being blind, and then for rejecting the "Gaunt" family tradition of using forbidden spells on Muggles. I refuse to engage in dark magic, which clashes with my parents' plans to dictate my life. Whenever they discuss me, they always use my blindness as an excuse to undermine my decisions. It’s just so frustrating.
1. This is where my journey begins. I'm on the verge of fulfilling my dream by enrolling in the Naunington Academy of Sorcery to study and become an Auror.
After spending so much time at Hogwarts, stepping into a new school felt quite unusual. Hogwarts was filled with enchantment and secrets; just when you thought you had it all figured out, another mystery would unfold. However, things would be different here. While my name granted me certain privileges at Hogwarts, with Professor Black as the headmaster and my close ties to the Gaunt family, here I felt completely on my own. In a way, that was exactly what I wanted—distance from anything connected to the Gaunt family..
1. Professor Weasley insisted on joining me for my first day by apparating onto the school grounds. I preferred her company over that of my own family. I was greeted by the professor I had been communicating with, as my blindness required some adjustments to classes and assignments. Since I can't read, Professor Radagor was set to provide me with private lessons to help me stay on track with my peers. From what I could tell, Professor Radagor was a woman. She had a high-pitched voice, and I could hardly hear her footsteps, which made me think she was quite slender.
- « Welcome M.Gaunt to the Naunington academy of socery against the dark arts. And welcome to you, Professor Weasey. It is very generous of you to accompagny your former student. » said professor Radagor.
- « Thank you for meeting us there » answered professor Weasley.
- « I feel very thankful for the opportunity and to be there Professor Radagor. » I added .
- « Well, your letter was very eloquant, you have exellent grades, and we like diversity in our school. Rest assured you won’t be the only blind student this year » remarked professor Radagor.
I was taken by surprise by what she had just said. I had never met another blind person before. I wondered who that person could be. Was it a boy ? a girl ? A professor ? Just thinking about it aroused my curiosity. Had he or she gone through similar difficulties ? As my thoughts were driffting away, Professor Radagor started talking again :
- « Well, I’ll take it from here, rest assured he will be fine, all the professors have been updated on M. Gaun’t situation and had the entire summer to prepare for it. »
- « Well I’m very glad to hear that. M.Gaunt it a very special student, and you will discover for yourself that his willingness and capabilities are beyond anything you could imagin » explained professor Weasley.
- « I must say I am looking foward to seeing it for myself. Now come along M. Gaunt, I will present you to your brother who will be showing you around, … That is, guiding you around ».
- « My brother ? I already have a brother unfortunately » I lamented.
- « It’s just how we call it, he will just be your guiding hand, to help you get by and of course answer any questions you might have. It’s also his first year at our school, but he has been helping out for a few weeks now, so he knows his way around. » explaind professor Radagor.
- « Do you need to hold my arm to find your way around ? »
- « No, that won’t be necessary. My wand will guide me, it sends ultra-sounds, which allow me to detect any form of life, the size of a room , it’s like a bat really, that sends ultra-sounds to detect the slightest movement. So it’s like I see a form, like a shadow, but made of light » I explained.
- « Well then, that’s quite impressive M.Gaunt, I wonder if that’s the way your fellow blind student manages to walk so effortlessly around the school too. » said Professor Radagor.
So this person was a student.
- « This is where I leave you dear M Gaunt » said professor Weasley. « I wish you all the best, you have been through so much, and you have whatever it takes to become the best auror of your generation, don’t let anyone convince you otherwise. Trust your instincts. It was my great honor to be your professor. I wish you the best of luck. » said Professor Weasley.
- « You have my deepest gratitude Professor, for your kindness and your patience. »
- « Goodbye M Gaunt . Look after yourself » said professor Weasley.
- « Goodbye professor » I replied.
I could see her shadow disappear.
- « If you’ll follow me » requested my new professor.
Professor Radagor was guiding me through the school, I could see her shadow, it was a pink colour and of course smell her sent, which smelt of rose. The lines drawn from my wand seemed to show that the school was small, but with vast rooms. As I walked by, I touched the walls, they were made of stone. So I imagined tall walls, like some sort of goth building, like a cathedral. The reason I thought of that is because I could hear a sligh echo. I could hear other students chatting. Professor Radagor interupted my thoughts by introducing me to my « brother ».
- « Let me introduce you to your brother, this is ... »
- « Ominis ???? » replied the young boy.
