The Pirate king who doesn't do anything
Waves crashed against the large ships as cannons shot into each ship with a large boom, shaking the hulls of the wooden boats. “Fire!” Draco yelled from the edge of one of the ships, tightly gripping onto rope as he motioned with his sword towards the oncoming rival pirates. A cannonball from the other ship his just below where he stood. He jumped off, as he yelled, “Here they come!”
Ladders hit the edges of his ship as the asian pirates started to board. His mates slashed their swords against and into the arriving rivals.
Theo yelled to Sirius, “Captain, I’ve found your sword!”
“The last battle of Draco’s youth, isn’t he wonderful, Theo?” The Pirate Captain sighed with a small smile as Theo slashed down the chest of an attacking pirate. He swung his sword as he danced around his captain, who watched his other mate in admiration. Completely ignoring the battle that surrounded himself. As usual. He rolled his eyes as he struck an unassuming pirate with the blunt of his handle.
“Stand by to repel boarders!” Draco yelled as he sidestepped, avoiding a small dagger. He spun, salted breeze in his face as he elbowed his attacker in the face. As the man stumbled back, Draco kicked him harshly in the chest, forcing him to the floorboards.
Captain Black spun, avoiding an attack as Theo handled his attacker, again. “You know, Theo, I said we should order chinese, but this is ridiculous.”
Theo’s eyes dug into the back of his captain’s head at the comment. The Captain leaned against one of the poles as he watched his apprentice slice open an attacker’s throat. Draco ran to his side, smiling wide as he dragged the captain of the other ship across the floorboards.
“Happy birthday, Draco. Though, I suppose you’ve brought me a gift instead.” Draco shoved the captain to Sirius’ feet. Sirius stepped back as he said, “A moment lads, he is their captain.”
The man sat on his knees, in a praying position. “Spare me.” He sang.
Sirius smirked at Draco, sword in hand, “An Irish tenor, no less. We could use an Irish tenor, lads.” Sirius leans slightly on to his sword, stabbing the other captain in his genitals. The man sung in a low octave in response. Sirius wiped his blade with his sleeve as he said, “Soprano. Even better.”
Neville, the sailing master and Harry, the main gunner rounded up the surviving attackers into the main hull of the ship by Theo’s orders. Theo leaned against the edge of the vast ship as he looked out into the waves. He glanced at his captain as he held back a sneer.
Sirius pranced around the deck as he counted each of the dead pirates that laid at his feet.”Thirty-six! I counted them myself.” Harry retorts as Sirius passed him as he was exiting the lower quarters.
Captain Black spun around, “Thirty-six? Thirty-six!” He yelled. The crew slowly congregated around the pair. “Last battle we had thirty-seven!”
Draco elbowed Theo as one of their captain’s dramatic speeches was about to commence.Though, they’d both rather gouge out their eyes than listen to his songs. “Land, ho!” one of the crew yelled, catching each crew member off guard. They hadn’t seen land in at least a year. Minimum. “Set sail!” Harry yelled as he ran to his post. Captain Black smiled wide as his crew dispersed. Save for Draco and his quartermaster, Theo. The men shared a knowing glance as their captain jumped on top of the edge of the ship.
Remus, the ship’s doctor, exited the lower quarters, ready to listen to the captain’s songs. Sirius winked in his direction as his hands went into the air as he began,
Oh, better far to live and die
Under the brave black flag I fly,
Then play a hypocritical part
With a pirate head and a pirate heart.
Away to the world across the seas,
Where pirates all have law degrees,
But I'll be true to the song I sing
And live and die a pirate king.
“We’re going to have to sing along again aren’t we?” Draco asked as Theo shrugged.
For I am a pirate king (You are, hurrah for a pirate king).
And it is, it is a glorious thing to be the Pirate King.
I am a Pirate King (You are, hurrah for a pirate king).
And it is, it is a glorious thing to be the Pirate King.
(It is, hurrah for a pirate king, hurrah for the Pirate King)
Captain Black circled Remus as he sang, never breaking eye contact.
When I venture forth to seek my prey,
I crush my foes in a royal way.
The ladies yield and the ships go down,
Or is it the other way around?
But many a king in a guilded tower,
If he wants to cling to pomp and power,
Must manage somehow to get through
More dirty work than ever I do.
Sirius climbed the highest pole to the highest sail as he sang.
Captain Black brought out his knife as he jumped down the sail, tearing a gaping hole as he went down onto the deck.
“He tore that goddamn sail again!” Harry yelled as Blaise patted his back. This was the twelfth time in three months.
“Again?” Yelled a member.
Sirius rolled his eyes, but smiled over at Minerva as he said, “Sew that up, love?”
Remus rolled his eyes at the comment towards the handmaiden. Captain Black stood on the edge of the ship as he beckoned his crew to gather. Slowly they left their posts to listen to his speech, again.
“Today is Draco’s twenty-first birthday. Today you will join us as a fully fledged member of our band. Your Apprenticeship paper’s. Speak!”
Draco took his place on the edge of the ship. “I hope to spare you this.”
Theo’s eyebrow shot up in curiosity. Was he finally doing what he had talked about for years?
“Thou as friends I love you all, but today, today I leave you forever.”
Glass shattered to the ground as Sirius dropped his glass of wine. “What? This is lunacy!”
Theo rolled his eyes as Draco continued his long rehearsed speech. “I cannot forget, I cannot forget that it was cutthroats such as you that murdered my family and left me an orphan.”
“Not fair, Draco, we’re orphans ourselves. We would never hurt an orphan.” Captain Black’s back straightened as he crossed his arms dramatically across his chest.
“Yes, I know that, but I’ve fulfilled my contract. I feel honorbound to devote my heart and soul to your extermination!” Draco leaped down from the edge of the boat in front of Sirius. The crew armed themselves.
“Extermination?” Sirius stepped forward with a small smile on his lips. “Sounds a little harsh, Draco.”
“Such is my sense of duty.” Draco stood straight, but held back a laugh as Goyle blew a raspberry.
Sirius walked down the ship as Draco followed right behind, “Well, if you feel that you need to destroy us, I cannot entirely blame you. It’s the way I’ve raised you.”
“I’ve been…I’ve been as low and viscous as I could, but something tells me there's more to life. I know it.” Draco said, causing Sirius to spin towards him.
Captain Black cackled as he looked at his crew, “More to life? More than piracy?”
Draco ran his hand through his hair, “Lately, lately I’ve been restless. Consumed by some inner fire. And all I think about is girls.”
Sirius gave him a disgusted look as the rest of the crew nodded along in agreement. Minerva, their older handmaiden on the ship, grabbed Draco and dipped him. “I’ve waited twenty years for this.”
Theo slowly took her off of Draco as the captain dramatically waved towards the sea. “The sea, Draco, is a jealous mistress, but she is her own reward. Believe me, you’ve missed nothing,” The crew all looked to one another, in disagreement. “Tell him men, have you missed anything during these twenty years at sea?”
In unison the crew yelled, “SEX!”
The captain rolled his eyes, but didn’t miss Remus’ perked eyebrow.
Draco looked around the crew, “But what about love?”
Sirius grabbed Draco by the shoulders, “Love for a pirate is the kiss of a salt wind, the curve of the white sail, the whisper of an enemy's well-slit throat. Show him ship-mates.”
The crew sighed but slowly showed their muscles or flipped themselves like acrobats on a wire. Theo watched in annoyance, as they’d all learned the drill for entertaining their other ship-mates to convince them to stay. Draco shook his head with a chuckle, “I’ll miss you all. I’ll miss you all very much, but my mind is made up.”
The ship grew quiet as Captain Black said, “Very well. So be it.” With a slight tilt of his head, Theo nodded and slyly took Draco’s sword.
“I’ll miss you, man.” Theo said, and hugged him as the rest of the crew took the rest of his weapons while he was distracted.
“I know you’ll think of me as just an old softie, but in return for all of your years of loyal service, I make you captain of your own ship.” Sirius guided Draco to the edge of the ship where a small dingy was tied to the side.
Draco held back a glare as he said, “I shall command her with pride, but someday,” He paused as he reached for his sword that was no longer there. He stepped forward angrily as Sirius smirked.
“There's Always a someday, Draco?” The crew surrounded their captain and slowly edged Draco to the plank.
“Hang five, Draco.” Goyle laughed as he shoved Draco off into the water.
“Land, ho!” Harry yells over the crew’s laughter. The crowd disperses to their posts, save for Theo who watched Draco board his tiny boat to freedom. Theo left to the captain’s side once Draco had floated a distance. Lucky Bastard
Draco stripped his linen shirt and removed his boots as he emptied out the water. Water splashed the sides of the boat as wrinkled hands gripped the side of the boat. Draco rushed to her side as Minerva was lifted into the boat, soaking wet.
“Oh, Draco, you were always a careless boy.” She sighed.
“Thanks.”
“Was that a definite no, back there?” She asked, chuckling.
Draco held back a grimace. “Minerva, I don’t want to hurt your feelings, but tell me honestly, now compared to other women, are you beautiful?”
“Oh, I’ve been told so.”
“Oh, but lately?” He asked as he stared off into the waves.
“Yes, but Serverus, though he was drunk at the time.”
Draco’s head whipped around toward the land as women’s voices echoed from the beach.
Draco speedily jumped into the water, leaving Minerva alone in the boat. “Oh, Draco!”
