Chapter 9
Today was the first day of classes.
Lily was having trouble with her uniform still struggling to do it up.
God. She thought I really did fill out I guess. She felt too embarrassed to write home for a new uniform. This one was only bought last year and she knew how money was tight.
She'd just have to make do.
And maybe skip pudding from now on.
First class was divination.
"You ready to get breakfast yet Lil"
Mary called.
"Cmon hurry up I'm starving" Marlene moaned.
Marlene was always hungry.
But she never seemed to gain an ounce. (this was probably due to the fact that she couldn't sit still for the life of her)
"Go down without me I can't seem to find my Divination copy anywhere." Lily sighed.
"Are you sure?" Marlene asked
"Yeah, go ahead. "Lily responded still looking around.
"We'll grab you an apple and scone." Mary said kindly
As her and Marlene left the dorm.
Lily tried to think of where she saw it last.
She didn't think Accio would be very helpful considering nearly every 5th year has the same divination copy.
She remembered looking over it last night hoping to get a head start while Mary and Alice shared a muggle tabloid in the common room.
Ohh that must be where she left it!
Lily grabbed the rest of her things.
Tied her hair back and left the dormroom.
The dorm room was practically empty. On account of this being the time most students got breakfast well, empty apart from one James Potter.
'God help me' Lily thought.
He was sitting on the large red leather couch arm resting on the head of it and the other holding a book.
Her divination book.
Oh the entiled prat! He didn't even take divination.
Lily stood there arms crossed waiting for him to look up.
Which took longer than expected he seemed to be really interested in the book for whatever reason.
She stared at him.
During this she couldn't help notice how his jaw clenched in focus.
He suddenly looked very mature with that intense focus on his face.
Lily jerked back to reality when he looked up.
He gave her a warm smile like he was genuinely happy to see her.
And Lily all of a sudden forgot that she was trying to look stern.
"Hi Evans" He beamed.
"What are you doing here during breakfast?"
He asked curiously.
"I could ask you the same Potter." She responded.
"I like to get up early at 6 and grab breakfast before I do drills on the pitch. The house elves are great! They usually have it out for me by the time I'm downstairs. Then I have around 40 minutes after I finish to chill before class."
He looked up happily "And now your turn."
Lily couldn't help but smile he was such an idiot.
"Well your daily routine sounds borderline sadistic. But the reason I'm still up here is I couldn't find my Divination copy. You know the one in your hand."
"Oh my bad Evans" James said immediately "Here you can take it back"
"How gracious of you " She meant to say sarcastically but she thinks he saw her smile.
"My pleasure" James said standing up and handing her the book with flourish before taking a bow.
She rolled her eyes at him.
But this didn't diminish the grin on his face he had as he looked at her.
His big brown doe eyes staring.
Lily didn't know how long she was staring back before she felt the need to break the silence.
"I thought you didn't take divination."
"Took it up this year." he replied
"Shouldn't you have your own book then"
"Open the one in your hand"
Lily opened the copy
"Property if James F. Potter"
Read the label on the inside cover.
"Why did you give it to me then?"
"You said you couldn't find yours" he said sincerely.
"Oh and about that your copy is in my sachel. I saw it lying on one of the tables and I figured I'd give it to you later since we are in the same class." He continued.
Lily blushed feeling oddly embarrassed.
"Oh. Sorry" She said looking down
"Not a problem." James quickly responded turning to pull her copy from his bag.
"Thank you." She smiled humbly.
"So you are in my Divination class." She said in an attempt to feel less awkward.
"Yep." He said happily bringing his wrist up and checking his watch "the one we are both 5 minutes late to."
"Shoot!"
