Chapter 4
Alyssa really wasn’t looking forward to DADA as they headed out of their general History class. They had already become uncomfortable with the way that the man flaunted himself in the halls, making every little thing about him. Not to mention the way he winked at everyone who passed him in the halls, students and teachers alike. There was just something about it that made their blood boil, even if they knew they were being a bit unreasonable.
He was a pompous man, with pale peach skin and truly golden hair. It was kept in a perfect swoosh, his eyes a bight forget-me-not blue, and his teeth far to white.
“Ah, Alyssa my girl.” Alyssa felt their eye twitch as the Professor pulled them aside. “I hear you’re quite the-“
“I’m taking extra classes with Professor Snape if that’s what you were going to say. If you were going to mention my knack for DADA you should know you don’t impress me. Far from it. I thought your books were… Lacking at bet.”
“Come now my-“
“Call me your girl again and I’m going to take the points loss for hitting a professor.”
“Oh, then whatever should I address you as?”
“I would prefer if you didn’t.” Alyssa shook their head. “I’m here as a courtesy to a friend, but if things go the same way as they did in that class, I will not hesitate to show you your place in this world.”
The entire class had gone silent at this point and had turned their full attention to the two.
“Continuing with the threats-“
“Mx. I’m going to interrupt you right there and say it’s Mx. No matter what the button says, you are to respect the button. Everyone else dose, I don’t see why you can’t.” They crossed their arms. “And I know for a fact that the Prefects of my House already know this is going to be a trouble class. Prity sure Flitwick and the other heads of house, as well as head boy and girl know as well. Now I would like to get on with class if you wouldn’t mind.”
Before the man could even respond, Alyssa pivoted and headed to an empty seat. Silence followed after them as the shadows at the edges of the classroom crept ever so slightly inwards, a momentary falter of fear entering Lockhart’s eyes before he cleared his throat. Quickly he took Alyss’a copy of Wagga Wagga Wearwolf quickly noting the mass amounts of tabs before smirking.
“Me.”
Alyssa’s shoulders tensed and they began clawing at their legs as the professor held the book up, showing off the massive smirking picture of him.
“Gildroy Lockheart, Order of Merlin, Third class, honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League ad five times winner of Witch-Weakly’s Most-Charming-Smile Award- but I don’t want to talk about that. After all I didn’t ger rid of the Bandon Banshee by- Smiling at her.” He grinned, waiting for people to laugh. There were a few uncomfortable chuckles, but Alyssa. If looks could kill, Lockheart would be eradicated. They were silently seething, hardly able to notice the stinging of their lap as they glared daggers at the man.
They hated him.
“I see you’ve bought a collection of my books.” Alyssa did have to give the man, he had grown a spine to the slithering shadows fast, and was speaking directly at Alyssa. “well connotated, you must have quite-“
“Green marks spelling errors, Yellow is grammatical, blue is contradictions within the books themselves, purple is fuck ups in connection to the other books, pink is all the time you lost your time line, and orange is general what the fuck moments. I didn’t enjoy them Professor, I found them loathsome.” Alyssa’s voice was a cold whisper, but the entire class had fallen into a deathly silence to listen. “I don’t like you, I think we made that much clear.”
“I would think that you would have an understanding of how hard my lifestyle is, being famous in the muggle world, though not as famous as I.” He smiled and winked. “I thought we would start today with a little quiz. Nothing to worry about- just a little something to see how well you read them. How much you took in.”
Quickly the professor started handing out the test papers. Once he was down, he returned to the front of the classroom. “You have thirty minuets’ starting now.”
One glance at the papers and not a single quill moved to the parchment as Alyssa stood.
“You absolute Narcissist. I will have you know that I have looked into a number of interesting laws, and teaching guides. You know, by making a Defense class’s first quiz all about yourself, it puts you as a creature to be defended against."
“I’ll have no more of that, everyone get to work. Alyssa I’m a fraid that I’ll have to take five points from Ravenclaw for your inappropriate behavior.”
“Lilac; though he also claims it to be lavender in his latest book, Rid the world of evil and market his own line of hair care products; again this was partly amended from a beauty line from Holidays with Hags to Magical Me, I would say being a proficient scam artist but I know he’s looking for one of the many charities that he’s bragged about donating to; three of which don’t- and never have- exist.” On and on, down the list Alyssa spat the answers with such venom, the room darkening quite a bit. “And finally harmony between all magical and non-magical peoples, and a bottle of Oldgen’s Old Firewisky.”
For a moment, it looked like Alyssa had caught the man in a trap. They had; technically, answered all the questions correctly- which should have earned the house points. But they way they said it, with such venom. It wouldn’t have been completely illogical for him to take them away as well.
But after a moment he smirked.
“Very good Mx. Wayne, I would like you to join me now for a demonstration.” Alyssa begrudgingly followed him to the front of the classroom, watching as he placed a cage on the desk. Alyssa wasn’t listening to a word he was saying, already knowing what they would be. Cornish Pixies, this was going to be a mess.
“Now Mx. Wayne-“ The Moment Alyssa felt a hand fall to the small of their back, their eyes went wide. They could hear an alarmingly loud ringing in their ears; a few students scrambling out of the classroom to get a different professor, and before even they knew what they were doing, a sickening crack filled the air.
Word spread fast about what Alyssa had done. The second day of class they had managed to lose thirty points and snagged two weeks of detention for breaking Lockhart’s nose.
While this time it wasn’t as big of a deal; many people from multiple houses had actually congratulated them for what they did, there were still a good number of students that were upset that they dared attack Precious Gildroy.
Hermione was amongst them.
“Was punching him really necessary?”
“Hermione, he put his hand in the small of my back. There isn’t a single universe in which that was okay or necessary.” Alyssa let out an exasperated huff. “You would think that man had some form of a passive-“
As Alyssa fell silent Hermione let out an annoyed groan. But Alyssa didn’t pay it any mind suddenly pacing frantically in front of the court yard’s fountain. “How could I be so oblivious. He’s like Queen Bee, he can control the minds of those who are infatuated with him. Probably not to the same extent, he might not even know he’s doing it. But what if he dose?”
“Al, your being ridiculous.”
“Am I Hermione? Because if it were anyone else that had put their hand on me like that you would be right alongside me, claiming how inappropriate it was.”
“It wasn’t a great move sure-“
“Alright, we don’t need to be fighting.” Draco said, stepping between the two. “Hermione, think about it. Really think about this. Are you saying your okay with the fact that Lockheart felt comfortable; after warnings, touching Alyssa’s back? It was inappropriate to begin with, but to then serve them with detention with him, was wrong.”
“Nothing that can be done about it now.” Hermione sighed, though Alyssa could at least see the gears turning in her head. “No getting out of it, you have detention, end of story.”
“I’m not going.”
“Alyssa, you have to. You’ll only get into more trouble if you don’t.”
“I don’t trust him.”
“You’ll be safe, I highly doubt that-“ Hermione cut herself off, and nodded. “You know what I mean.”
“Fine, but if I’m expelled you know what happened.” Alyssa crossed their arms as the group headed inside. The sky had begun to gray, and Alyssa’s detention was only a few hours away, just after dinner. As Hermione arched an eyebrow Alyssa shook their head.
