Chapter 5
“Ms. Wayne, please have a seat.”
Alyssa’s blood boiled quickly, then ran cold. They couldn’t feel their powers, or really their magic at all.
It was meant for times of extreme vulnerability, but Alyssa just felt unsafe.
“Why the warding?” Alyssa’s voice shook with fear and anger. “There isn’t any need for this type of thing. I was already informed that I wan not to use physical force unless there was no other choice, that it wouldn’t help probe my point.”
“Do you like them? They should be familiar, you’re the one who set up the system, but I modified them slightly. Don’t need you getting hurt if you got upset.” The man said, smiling widely standing and heading to were Alyssa stood. “Now come, sit down.”
Lockheart’s hand slid to the small of Alyssa’s back, a surprising burning pain running up their spine as they went to retaliate.
“Come now, none of that, no need to fight.” Lockheart’s voice was all too smooth. “Even you must be impressed by my warding abilities. After all it was you who said that wand magic isn’t everything. See I have a very specific gift, two things I’ve always been particularly good at magically. Warding and Memory Charms.”
“You are a fraud.” Alyssa growled, closing their eyes and taking a few calming breaths. “Tch, I’d say I was impressed by this revelation, but those really are the only things; other than I guess looking pretty, that your good at.”
“So you do find me attractive?” At Lockheart’s wink Alyssa shuddered.
“I said you were ‘pretty’ like a pretty boy. Not in the compliment way either, you’re trying to hard even on that front, I stand by my theories on you being a meta human though.”
“What an intelligent girl.”
“Call me that again and I swear-“
“What? You don’t have any magic, or any of your strength passed what you need.”
“What do you want?”
“You’re a fighter, I can respect that.” He smiled, guiding them to his desk, where two chairs were set side by side. “No for now you’re just going to help me sign my fan mail.”
Alyssa was hesitant to sit, but did as they were told.
“You can address the envelops, there’s a list there all ready for you.”
“You had the time to write a list, but not to address the envelopes?”
“Oh, many of my fans send me multiple letters.” He said, winking at Alyssa once again who let out a grumble. “Now now, enough of that. This isn’t going to go any faster if you grumble.”
Alyssa took another calming breath and turned their attention to writing down names. They had mostly managed to tune out the man next to them when a hand suddenly found itself against their back, petting their shoulders which had grown fairly tense.
“Ease up my girl, all this tension must be why your so stressed.”
“I’ll tell.”
“Hm?”
“If you try anything, I will tell. And these wards only last so long.”
“Come now, what do you take me for some kind of pervert?”
“Yes.” Alyssa nodded, heart racing slightly. “I would appreciate it if you stopped now.”
“Very well.” Lockheart’s hand left Alyssa’s spine, only creeping up to pet their shoulder. “What you have so much tension in your shoulders.”
“I said stop it.” Alyssa snapped, heart racing.
“What are you going to tell them. That I gave you a bit of a massage?” There was a tone in Lockheart’s voice that sent a chill down Alyssa’s spine. Just beneath his overly cheerful tone, was a knowing that he would be able to get away with it. “My girl, this tension is bound to make you sick.”
“This is inappropriate.”
“Hardly! I am after all great at helping people relieve stress. I am truly just helping a dear student who was unintentionally hurting themselves.”
“Please just focus on the letters.”
“There is a reason why I suggested this be your detention.”
“Why is that?” Alyssa glared darkly at the man next to them.
“Simple. You got here at eight and it’s been three hours. It’s far to late for you to go back to your dorm now.”
“Nonsense, students returning to their dorm from detention are allowed in the halls at night.” Alyssa retorted, quickly pulling away from the desk. “So I’m going to take my leave you… You-“Something cold hit Alyssa’s neck, their eyes rolling back as they collapsed into a feint.
