Hermione Granger X Fred Weasley

She sits apart from the other guests.
By the side of the dance floor and listens to him laugh.

For a longest time she thought there was no way to tell the twins apart.
But no one
Not even his twin
Laughs like Fred does.

No one has his eyes
His laughter lines.
His energy.

Still laughing he catches her eye.
And she smiles,
The best she can, knowing this may be the last night any of them laughs freely.

"May I have this dance my lady?" He offers her a hand.
And she takes it
Shaking her head.

The up beat melts into a slow tune as his hand rests on the small of her back.

"Why so sad princess?" He whispers into her ear.
And when their eyes meet she blinks away tears,

"There's going to be a war." She says silently, voice shaking, "and it'll ruin me, you, Harry, George, everyone…"

Tenderly his fingers brush away a single tear from her cheek. "Come on."

He leads her away from the dance floor,
away from the party
To the sidelines
Where only the moon and stars light the clear night.

"Here." He offers her a flower,
but before she can even take a closer look
it sprays water on her.

She frowns at Fred who grins apologetically. Then he lifts his hand to caress her face again, "I'm sorry. I just can't deal with sad."

"I know." She leans to his palm.

"What would cheer you up then?"

Suddenly he's so close she can feel his words As puffs of breath that smell like fresh mint.
Like him.

"Nothing." She answers but tilts her face closer.

"Damn." He mutters
And then his lips are on hers.

She was wrong — When all her thoughts get filled by him, she isn't sad.
Doesn't feel like drowning in desperation.
But right.
Like suddenly the world twists around it's axis To just the right place.

Her senses fill with the scent of him.

Fresh mint
Summer nights
And bonfires

Like her amortentia

Even after years and years
When the war is over
Life build anew

And him — Fred — long gone
