Hermione Granger X Draco Malfoy

All her life,
as long as she knew about soulmates,
She had hoped to find hers.

Someone who'd make her soulmark appear. But no one had.

She had shared her life
And her bed
With many men
But no one felt right.
And the inside of her right wrist stayed empty.

So she gives up.
Learns to accept the fact that maybe she just doesn't have a soulmate.

Besides It's not like she needs anyone.

"Have you found him yet?" Gray eyes study her with amused glint as Malfoy sits to share her table at the bar.

He's not her soulmate.
They'd tried
For four months after the war,
In the shadows of shared nightmares.
She had gone to him and he had held her,
Kept her,
Understood her,
And fucked her
Like no one after.

By the end she had hoped,
Really hoped he'd be her soulmate.

But her wrist stayed empty
And so did his.

They were young.
And even though she felt strongly for him,
They had to move on.

Now he looks at her again,
After years
And asks if she found what she was looking for.

"No." She shakes her head to him, "Have you?" He flips around his hand revealing a clean skin.

She wakes up in his bed the next morning.
Eats breakfast wrapped in only white sheets. Stands on his balcony and lets the sun warm her skin.

"I want to travel the world." She turns to him, "Come with me?"

Their eyes meet, "Just casually." She adds.

So they go.

Draco and Her.
They travel the world.
Go where they want to.

Fall asleep to the sound of waves
And wake up to the buzz of a city.
Run barefoot on an empty beach and have breakfast on a balcony facing the Eiffel tower. Kiss on a bridge at Venice,
Climb on mountains,
And dive to the deep waters of a blue ocean.

His hair gets even lighter in the sun
And her curls even more untamable because of all the salt water.

They go
until his eyes have laughter lines,
And she has forgotten to look for a soulmate.

"Marry me?" Draco whispers into her hair one night under the stars in the tropic.

She looks deep into his eyes, "I'm not your soulmate."

"You are." He tells her firmly, "I choose you and I think you've chosen me too?"

At that She smiles
Bright and certain.
Yes, he is.
Yes, she chooses him.
Yes they are
Because they became.

"Yes." She tells him, "I will marry you."

Their lips meet
And both are too busy to see the tattoos Twisting around their wrists,
Growing like vines
And bursting to full bloom.

Not just a mark
But a brand
To tell everyone how they chose.
