A Broke-Up Band
Some nights, Remus would still assist Jack on his missions if they thought he could be helpful. Even though he wasn't part oft he gang anymore.
Tonight Jack wanted to see if he could persuade another gang of people who do jobs for higher ups, just like Greyback's gang does, if they'll join forces. Become co-partners between Fenrir Greyback and this other man called Abraxas Malfoy. Jack was meeting up with a man called Lucius Malfoy, Abraxas' son.
Jack got ready and wore black jean trousers and a white shirt, not too formal, and he directed Remus to wear something more his style. Instead of his usual jeans and jumper, Remus wore a shirt with a knitted vest underneath, looking like he gave more of an effort.
"How is your knee today," he asked as he did up his shirt buttons. He would ask this when he could see Remus in more pain than usual.
Jack was soft at heart, but made to be heartless in nurture. With Remus, he could be soft, he could be himself. They had an agreement between them about their relationship. He'd do his work for his brother Fenrir, and come back to Remus leaving it behind the door.
They didn't love each other romantically, but they grew up together and loved each other protectively.
The reason for this relationship is not out of love, though.
After Remus got hurt one night, very badly, he knew he'd never work for Greyback again. They all did, because they thought he'd be paralyzed. He knew the incident could never be undone after it happened and Fenrir wanted to get rid of Remus completely. He was a loose end. He was usless. But Jack fought against Fenrir. He said Remus was important. Remus had been doing work for since he could walk, he was the best Fenrir had.
Jack argued that Remus knew too many people, and they all liked him. He argued Fenrir wouldn't be half the man he is without Remus' help and Remus will soon be of use again. It was all true. Fenrir then sent Jack to monitor him, make sure he only goes to classes and come back, never allowed to talk to anyone and spill the secrets of the Greyback gang.
They should've killed him but Jack saved him and gave Fenrir the offer to watch him as if they were in a relationship instead of killing Remus.
This is why Remus would obey to what Jack wanted. He owed him his life.
"It's fine." Remus always replied.
"I'll get you some of the pain relief," Jack said. He acted and spoke like he loved Remus, but this wasn't love that Remus wanted. He believed Jack felt the same.
This was a cage.
They walked together in silence, Remus lent on Jack holding onto his arm. They walked slowly for Remus all the way to the nightclub where they were meeting Lucius.
It had been a week since he last saw Sirius on the window ledge of his apartment smoking a cigarette. He wondered if they would ever bump into each other again.
"Lucius!" Jack shook his hand enthusiastically as an old friend. "It's good to see you again." He turned and put a hand on Remus' back. "You remember Remus?"
"Yes," Lucius was distasteful but nevertheless Jack persevered at trying to be his friend, Remus told him it was a lost cause. "Father would have loved to see you."
"I hope he is well." A shiver went up his spine as Lucius mentioned his father.
Lucius was already sitting at a table near the back of the dark and busy club, Jack pulled a chair out and told Remus to sit down.
"Will i get us some drinks?" Jack left Remus and Lucius to stare each other down.
"Still with the whole fake-relationship then? Thought you'd give up with that by now?" Lucius snagged. His arms were folded at the table sitting opposite Remus.
"Still bleaching your hair like a freaking girl? The colour's getting a bit pissy you need bathe that in some purple shampoo."
"I don't bleach my hair-"
"Alright, Rapunzel."
Remus looked around the busy club when they decided to stop talking. There was a band up at the front, with a lousy spotlight on them and no one paying them attention. The lead singer was also playing guitar and was doing both so enthusiastically, he was really good but the ones around him not. There was another guitarist, a bassist and a drummer. All of which; where horrible.
"Alright, I got the drink, Remus just a coke is that alright?" Jack said as he came back. He knew Remus didn't like drinking.
Remus nodded as Jack set the drinks down and sat beside him. They talked for hours, Remus just sitting listening and watching the band until the conversation turned to having
a lethal tone.
More people came, and left until 12am when there was such a crowd watching the band.
The main singer was getting frustrated with the rest of the players but they kept playing their song. They kept playing until one of the guitarists fell off the stage from getting dizzy and drinking too much. The song came to an abrupt stop, even Jack turned to looked.
The guy got back up and threw his guitar and the bassist. He was shouting. The lead singer, a good looking guy, tall, dark without a blemish on him, tried to calm him down, only to get punched in the face. He lunged at the guy and the bassist lunged after him. Then everyone was chanting and fighting. The whole time the small, blonde drummer stayed on his seat with a look like someone was pointing a gun at him.
"I guess that is the cue to leave." Jack said standing up, the rest of them did too. "It was good to see you, Lucius."
"And you, Jack." He turned to Remus. "Remus."
"Goodbye." Remus spoke after hours of not saying a word.
Lucius left but Jack didn't move from his spot.
"Are you okay?" Remus asked.
"I'll never get him convinced. He thinks he can pair with the Black family." Jack sat back down with his head in his hands. "He isn't a gang fighter, he one of the higher ups."]
Remus didn't know anything about this 'Black' family, except that they employed people like Remus and the Greyback gang to do their dirty work.
"Fenrir is going to kill me." Not only did Remus fear Greyback, but Jack did. He feared him so much more too.
"Lets go home." Remus hauled Jack up onto his feet but as he stepped back, he didn't see the fight had made its way down to them, and fell into one of the guys.
Remus bumped into his back, quite harshly, but quickly got up and apologized.
"Will you watch were you're bloody going?!" The lead singer of the band turned around and shouted. He was clearly very angry was even more handsome up close.
"Hey- watch it-" Jack stood in front of Remus, ready for this guy to start something on an already fragile Remus.
The singer was taken aback at himself. "I- I'm sorry. I didn't mean-" He said. He looked back at Remus before leaving the club.
"James!" The small drummer guy ran after him out the door, still holding his drum sticks.
They were home in no time and got the elevator up to the forth floor. Since Remus was with Jack it was okay. In the elevator, they didn't talk but Jack was looking at him like he did sometimes. Remus never returned the eye contact.
They got into the apartment but he didn't make it far before an arm was snaked around his waist.
"Remus-" he whined into Remus' neck.
Jack is like a child, He acts like one and cries like one. He'd usually be crying in the bathroom in the middle of the night or when he's clutching onto Remus at night.
Remus never knew what to do, but sometimes Jack would want Remus in other ways. This would only happen once every other week to month, but the last time it happened was only last week.
Remus never wanted to engage, he never felt excited but for Jack he felt like he needed to.
Remus turned around as Jack was still sucking on his neck. His hand went into Remus' hair and Remus' hand clutched onto Jacks shirt, scrunching it up in his hand.
Jack walked forward so Remus would walk backwards, bumping up against the wall. His lips soon went to Remus' and it wasn't long before Jack got more hungry.
He lifted Remus up and set him on the bed, he knelled in front of him, taking off his shoes, socks and trousers. He kissed the gunshot near Remus' knee which always gave him goosebumps.
His hand trailed a scar that went up Remus' thigh. He was unconscious when he got that one.
Jack was always gentle with Remus but he also always got what he wanted.
From experience, Remus knew if he started to fight back Jack would get aggressive. He would become someone else.
