Ticking clock
James is tracing his fingers across Regulus’ back. The smaller boy is lying on the bed, resting his head on James’ chest. James should be happy. It is a happy moment. But every second brings them closer to Regulus’ leave. And he tries to stop the time, to hold on. He begs the cruel clock on the wall to stop moving for a moment. Just give him another day, just another morning to wake up with this boy in his arms, or another late dinner with a silly movie. Fuck, he will take one more hour or even 15 minutes.
He closes his eyes as the clock turns 4 pm. Regulus stirs in his arms. “James,” he whispers.
It's not fair. They finally got together. James only tasted what is it to have this boy. And he can't let go. The timing wasn't in their favour. Regulus signed a contract to study abroad for a year before they got together. James knows how much Regulus wants this. It's a great university and it will be a great experience for him. He doesn't want to hold him back, but he can't stop the words from spilling from his lips.
“Don’t go.” he didn't want to say it. It's not fair to Regulus. But James is physically hurting right now. He can't make himself let him go.
“James” Regulus says desperately, pleading with him not to make this harder than it already is. The moment Regulus looks at him he doesn't even try to fight the tears. Regulus has heartbreak in his eyes. “We can do this. It's gonna be alright,” he says.
“Don't go,” James repeats and before Regulus can react, he makes a quick decision. “Not without me.”
“What?” the smaller boy asks with confusion.
“Take me with you,” James says and there isn't a waver in his voice.
“You have a life here. You can abandon it just because of me.”
“Do you want me to go with you?” James asks instead.
Regulus is silent, but James sees him fight the hope creeping into his eyes. He repeats the question because nothing else matters. Not if Regulus wants him.
“Yes,” Regulus breathes out. “But...”
“Then I will figure it out here and will come to you.”
“Are you sure?” Regulus asks also with tears in his eyes. Instead of answering James kisses him relishing in the fact he will be able to do that in future. And as their lips meet James is certain that this is the place he is supposed to be. Right next to the boy he loves.
