Morning calm
The moment Regulus steps outside can feel today is gonna be a hot day. You can smell it in the air. As if nature is preparing for a long day. He sits down on the bottom step in front of the door, wrapping his arms around his bend knees. He can hear the birds singing in the trees and a morning owl from the forest. He closes his eyes and lets the warm and calm wrap around him. He inhales the air, and it smells like freshly cut grass. After a while, he hears the door click and James sits down beside him.
“Here you go.” James hands him a cup of coffee.
“Thank you,” Regulus whispers. He doesn’t want to disturb the surroundings.
“What are you thinking about?” James asks and tilts his head in interest.
Regulus thinks about it. About how he always wanted to spend a summer in the countryside. How it never was an option until this year. It feels unreal that he is here, with a boy he loves right next to him. Is this how it feels to be alive?
“I just…” Regulus starts saying but has to stop to choose his words carefully. “I feel free. I can get up right this minute and go wherever I want, do whatever I want. I can just start walking if I decided to.” He turns his head to James. The boy is looking at him with soft eyes. Eyes Regulus could drown in, brown like hot honey.
“And I don’t want to. For the first time in my life, I can go anywhere I want and all I want to do is stay. Here. With you.” James' face widens with a smile as he presses a kiss to Regulus’ cheek.
