Lan Wangji felt the warmth of the babe in his arms and of the still lingering kiss from his husband before taking to his sword. He expanded his awareness of the land before him and followed the laylines to the nearest node of natural magic. With his new son held firmly in one hand, he withdrew his sword and raised a teleportation talisman. In the blink of an eye they were inside the Jingshi.
After bathing the child clean of blood he wrapped him up in many warm white robes and pulled out a training ribbon. He placed the child down onto the bed and the ribbon on his guqin before sitting gracefully behind it. He played softly, enchanting the ribbon with many healing properties. This enchantment lasted only one day before the ribbon would need to be reenchanted. But children needed lullabies to sleep anyway... he looked up at the sleeping boy, so young. Too young to have suffered so much already. His eyes gazed higher, upon this inflamed lighting shaped scar above his upper dantian. He stood and gathered the ribbon before approaching a child he'd come to love so quickly. His thumb brushed over the scar gently before something flashed before his mind's eye. A small ball of resentment encased in a red orb which radiated both love and anger equally. Quite extraordinary.
Wei Ying should be home by morning, he thought before curling up beside his son and going to bed. He was correct of course. As the sun was just cresting the ridge a large burst of Qi energy came from the back woods followed by a thunder like boom and finally the cascading sound of falling trees. He quickly grabbed the baby, ran just through the trees and knocked on the door that once held his father so many, many years ago, "A'Su, open up, you must watch your brother while I investigate what just happened." The door flew open and only shaking hands reached to embrace the babe. He along with many of Gusu's elite fighters, left quickly and approached the sight.
At the sound of his husband's familiar laughter he signaled for the others to stay back and hidden while he alone approached. "Wei Ying?" he called.
"Ah, Lan Zhan! My beautiful husband is here! Everyone this is the man I was telling you all about, the immortal righteous protector of Gusu Lan!"
"Wei Ying is also an immortal righteous protector of Gusu Lan." he deadpanned, which earned his another laugh. He turned towards the gathered crowd of about 50 or so emaciated people. He saw a toddler among them. He stared and stared and for a moment it felt like the Wen remnants were before him. He could've done more for them... He knew that and held it deep, just as he did when Wei Ying was dead. No, he shook it off and greeted them. "Hello and welcome to The Cloud Recesses, the home of the Gusu Lan Clan and the Cultivation Sect of Lan. My name is Lan Wangji and though I am not the Sect Leader of this present time my husband and I have guided our descendants and the Sect for centuries. My husband will stay with you and I will go procure meals for everyone. Would any of you be unwilling to be seen by one of our doctors?" there was silence. "Then once you have eaten I will send our medical staff here. Please rest in the meantime." He then left to do as he said he would, leaving behind his husband's loud chattering.
When he returned a barrier had been put up in a dome shape surrounding the clearing. Already tents were set up, the people looking up quickly as he approached with a babe in his arms, his daughter at his elbow and a row of servants carrying dishes which were each handed out in turn. He found his husband sitting beside two people who seemed to be discussing their greatest pranks... oh boy. "Wei Ying." he called
"Lan Zhan! There you are!" He noticed his children. "Oh A'Su, my love, my darling girl come to mama." His companions shared a look at that before the older woman stepped forward to thoroughly embrace her mother.
"A'Niang!" she sobbed "A b-brother?"
"Yes my love, shhh, it's okay darling, let it out." He quickly left with her to a more secluded place, leaving Lan Wangji along with two men to whom he had not been introduced yet. He bowed somewhat awkwardly with the child in his arms.
"Hello, my name is Lan Wangji, welcome to Cloud Recesses."
"Hello, my name is Remus Lupin," the taller one spoke gently. "This here is Sirius Black, and the baby you're holding is Harry Potter, the only child of our dear friends James and Lily Potter."
"I'm his godfather." Sirius stated planely. "Wuxian said that wouldn't be a problem and something about him being claimed as the child of your soul?"
"What? Sirius! You didn't say anything about that. Soul Magic? Maybe we should've gone to Dumbledore." Remus started loud and was murmuring by the end but a junior cultivator could've heard it...
"Dumbledore, the man who defeated Grindelwald, yes I know of him."
"He was our Headmaster you see, after we left school we joined him in the war effort against Voldemort and his Death Eaters. I never would've even gotten the chance to study magic if not for him."
"Dumbledore, in his authority as Headmaster, groomed you to be child soldiers?" Lan Wangji's eyebrows had risen incrementally, his jaw clenching at the prospect.
"What? No! That's... that's ridiculous."
"I was 17 when the Cultivation Sects went to war. I had been trained to slay demons not humans but after my home was destroyed and I thought I'd lost my love, I fought in that bloody war and watched as the man I love most lost everything, including his life. I was left alone."
"Remus?" Sirius brought his attention to him. "I was lost in revenge when Wuxian found me at Godric's Hollow. If he wasn't there, I would've gone for the rat. I would've killed him and gone to Askaban or died trying."
"I would've been left alone." Remus whispered before locking eyes with Lan Wangji, nodding once and departing.
"He'll be fine, he just needs a moment to process all that's happened in the last 12 hours." Lan Wangji nodded before extending Harry between them in offering. Sirius took hold of his godson gently before looking him over thoroughly. He paused at the strip of white fabric wrapped around his head, more plain but much like the man who sat before him. "This boy is the future, he is the last of the Noble House of Potter and would remain so even if he takes your name."
"I would never deny him his heritage should he wish to use his birth name when he's older or not it will be his decision. He'll be our son either way. Now if you wouldn't mind, I'll return shortly with medical assistance." He left his son with his godfather and walked briskly to the Hanshi, dismissing the warriors along the way, the home of the Sect Leader for generations.
He knocked and called out, "Sect Leader Lan. I have a report on the disturbance in the back woods."
"Enter," called back a clear form voice, so he did. Before him sat Lan Khanxi, a middle aged man who held himself with a firm grace that was both welcoming and dominating. He was smart as a whip and enforced the remaining 100 rules fairly. Many years ago, before the Sects hid themselves away from the common folk, and the two immortals has just ascended, the rules, which had expanded to encompassing over 6,000 were culled and boiled down to the essentials... leaving 100 rules only carved into the Wall of Discipline. "Ah, grandfather immortal, welcome. Sit, I'll pour you son tea."
After he had drank the tea he began his report. "We were investigating a cult of demonic Cultivators far in the west. One of Wei Ying's sensors went off but the damage was done by the time we arrived on the scene. two dead, a child injured and the perpetrator incorporeal. We claimed the orphan and I returned with him here while my husband continued the investigation. That investigation led to the arrival of over 50 magical refugees from a toddler to the elderly. I wish for permission to bring the healers to them and to establish official refuge status. Since Wei Ying's arrival heralded the clearing of space in the back hills, I suggest they remain there until permanent status is established."
"Your wish us granted on the contingency that should they wish to enter into the Sect they follow the rules. I will go with you to get Healer Qing." And they walked in tandem in silence.
"Hello Sect Leader!" Healer Qing called our brightly. She was a young woman with a ferocious mind and a bubbly personality, not unlike Wei Ying, Lan Zhan thought. "Oh Grandfather! How lovely to see you again. what brings you to my healing hands?"
"50 foreign magical refugees from the west." Lan Khanxi stated, making the Healer blink a few times before setting off all the notification talismans for the healers in call. Then she briskly walked back into her work space and began gathering things while periodically asking questions.
"Average state of condition?"
"Emaciated, traumatized but mostly uninjured physically."
"Age range?"
"There's a toddler." She hissed. "A few elders, but many young men and women."
"Will they see me as a threat?"
"No. Hesitant but not afraid."
"Did they provide a reason for the state of being?"
"I am not informed of such."
"Okay, okay, I'll ask them myself. Let's go, my assistants are on their way." They made haste in their walking speed but did not run, mostly just to keep up with Healer Qing who was on a mission. When they arrived Lan Wangji introduced her to Remus Lupin just as his husband came bounding up. "Nice to meet you Mr. Lupin, hello to you too Grandmother," Wei Ying gasped in mock indignation."Now if you'll excuse me, I have over 50 new patients, so I need to get as much information as I can. Are you, Mr. Lupin at this time prepared to speak for the people who seek refuge in our lands?"
"Yes ma'am I am."
"what county do you hail from?"
"England... the UK, Britain."
"And why would the British Ministry of Magic leave citizens like yourselves in such dire conditions?"
"Citizens? We're not citizens. We are sick, we were infected with a disease called Lycanthropy and due to that status, we are not longer citizens under the protection of the Ministry of Magic, instead, we are pursecuted by them if ever caught and put on a Dark Creature registry."
"How horrible, and this disease, Lycanthropy. What do its symptoms present as?" He looked at her like she had slapped him.
"You have never heard of it?"
"No, which is rather disappointing as my medical research took me down the path of curing many different magical and nonmagical diseases, unlike some of my peers who settled into body curses and curse breaking as well as the required family art of medical spiritual actupuncture, said to have been developed by the ancestor for which I was named."
"She sounds like an incredible woman. Well, Lycanthropy has also been called a curse, to be clear I'm unsure of it's origins but one who has been infected by the bite of a werewolf on a full moon and survived it will, in the following month, turn into a werewolf himself on the full moon. The transformation is painful, that's all I know, for I lose myself entirely to the wolf."
"Is everyone here infected or cursed with this?"
He took a pause, "Yes."
She turned towards her Immortal Grandparents, "They are your responsibility every full moon," She turns back to Remus Lupin, "and you are going to ensure everyone sees a member of my medical staff immediately after regaining themselves."
"Deal."
