Step By Step

Sirius POv

This is the worst day ever.

Remus is a monster.

I was aching in places I didn’t know could ache.

I didn’t even realize I had some of the muscles that were currently hurting.

When we finally decided to settle down and get to know each other, we realized that a lot of things we thought about each other was wrong.

So for our concept we decided to do a kind of look deeper vibe.

The plan was for the stage to be all black and as we danced we would introduce a forest by revealing parts of it.

I drew the stage design plan while Remus did the choreography for the concept. After giving the producers our design it was time to start practicing.

He wanted perfection and I really didn’t want to mess this up for him so that is exactly how I ended up here, with my soul cramping up.

“Again.”

“More energy Sirius”

“That’s not the move. Here, start again.”

“It’s dance not a beauty pageant.”

“Less face more movement”

“Not bad if your goal is to lose”

“Again”

By the time I had gotten the entire choreography, it was already four.

“You did okay for a first timer Sirius. Want to go grab a late lunch together?” he asked and I nodded excitedly and he smiled at me.

“Okay then. Let’s change our clothes and meet up at the front side.”

I went over to my room and was slightly surprised to see he wasn’t back. I had thought Remus and I finished last.

My entire body hurt and I really should be resting but Remus was giving an opportunity for me to get to know him better and I didn’t want to waste it.

I freshened up, combing my hair out and put a hairband on it so it didn’t full into my face. A black tee, and black trousers. The ear piercings I got and was bedridden for two weeks for were adorned with silver.

Then I froze.

This definitely wasn’t a date.

What if he thought I was doing a bit too much?

I shrugged it off.

This was my usual self, and crush or not if he couldn’t take it, it wasn’t meant to be I guess.

‘Or you just do not deserve love’ shut up Walburga.

I put on a red leather jacket to match up my headband and left to meet up with Remus.

He smiled when he saw me heading towards him and I ignored the zoo of butterflies that smile brought to me.

“Okay I know this really good place around here. James and I found it out yesterday. By the way we’re meeting the others for karaoke after our late lunch” Remus said and I nodded and followed him. It was quite the walk so we talked as we went.

“So why did you choose to act?” Remus asked and I grinned brightly.

“Well my brother and I were put into it. It’s basically all we know how to do since we didn’t go to college. Besides that’s how we meet people so we can’t leave it.”

He nodded but I didn’t understand the expression on his face. “So what schools did you attend? Let me guess, some super posh private school?” he teased and I laughed at the notion.

“I wish. I was homeschooled with my brother. My parents brought us tutors home so it wouldn’t clash with our filming schedules. I always loved watching high school movies to see how they were. One of my favorite roles was when I got to wear a school uniform. Did you like school? You met James in elementary school. How was it?”

He gave a small smile but its effect was marred by the furrow in his eyebrow.

“It was good I guess. James was a good person to have and he was my only friend pre accident who stayed post-accident.” He explained and I nodded in understanding and continued chattering

“Then Lily. You met her also in school. The both of you have awesome dance chemistry. Your choreographies are definitely really good to see. I love how although you both have different styles it blends perfectly on the dance floor. It reminds me of Reggie and me. I mean not in the dancing part but in the blending well together although some people can’t see past our differences. A lot of people have this weird notion that we hate each other but we don’t. We’re like yang and yin. Yin and yang. Like that dance you did with Caradoc, it was so good and you_”

“Sirius?” I shut up and flushed mortified by how much I had been talking.

“I am so sorry Remus, my mother always says I don’t know when to shut up and_”

He laughed cutting me off, “it’s nothing like that. Just wanted to tell you we have arrived at the restaurant. I like hearing you talk, plus you seem to be a very big fan of me”

Kill me now. I started my usual Remus rant. To Remus. I should just kill myself now that he hasn’t run away yet.

We entered the restaurant and the waiter came over to our table.

“Okay I would want a burger, some fries and chicken wings with a milkshake. What would you like Sirius?”

What Remus was ordering sounded good but I didn’t want to have to do an ice diet again. If I exceeded a number on the scale I was made to do an ice diet and it really sucked.

“I am not really hungry. I would like one portion of lettuce foliage and a jug of water.”

The waiter left and Remus turned to me looking worried. “Is that really all you want? You did not join us to have breakfast and you have been dancing, you sure you don’t need a bit more food?”

I shrugged and shook my head. “I don’t want to have another ice diet. You know how mothers get” I said but he just looked confused.

“What’s an ice diet?” he asked and I was more confused. I mean Walburga had been doing this to us before I was even five. It was normal. Wasn’t it?

“Well when we exceed our weight limit for a period of three weeks we’re only allowed to eat ice. Your mum didn’t do it for you?”

He looked horrified. “Sirius how tall are you?”

“I’m 5’9. 1.75m. what does this have to do with anything?” I was really confused.

“Do you mind telling me your weight?” I shrugged still confused but he seemed really sad so I just spoke. “38kg when I checked this morning. If I add up 2kg I’ll be on the ice diet”

“Sirius I do not think you need that diet. If anything you need to add about 30kg more to be on the lower end of normal standard.”

Our food came and the conversation was dropped.

Instead we talked about other stuff. Remus told me more about himself.

He is twenty two [I knew that], he is an only child [ I knew that], his parents are named Lyall and Hope [ I didn’t know that], he loves dance [the world knows that] and he is ambidextrous [I never knew that].

He fed me a few of his fries, making a game of throwing it while I was trying to catch it with my mouth and I was having the most fun I had ever had.

I laughed at his jokes and he laughed at mine, not even cutting off my ramblings.

When we headed to the karaoke place to meet the others I was already completely relaxed around him.

The people at the karaoke where all introduced to each other. I can’t remember surnames but I made it a point to know everyone by names.

James, Marlene, Dorcas, Lily, Mary, Evan, Barty, Pandora, then Reggie, Remus and I.

James looked around happily and turned to face Marlene. “Just Peter left and the gang is complete.”

I nodded when I remembered the famous musician Peter Pettigrew who was a part of their friend group.

He was supposed to join but he was currently on a world tour after the release of his last album.

Karaoke was absolutely amazing, it was a lot better than the movies.

First there was a lot of alcohol and Reggie and I drank but we usually only drank champagne so we were drunk pretty quickly.

I knew Reggie was gone when he picked up the microphone to sing with me.

It was a mess of bad vocals, screaming people, and all in all a blast.

* * * * * * *

I stirred and raised my head feeling extremely dizzy.

I was on someone’s back and I was being carried back to the building we were supposed to be sleeping in.

“Where is Reggie?” I asked and the person’s deep laugh caused a rumble that passed through my body.

Definitely Remus.

My body didn’t react like this to just anyone.

“Close your eyes Sirius. Don’t worry. Your brother is fine and I’ll keep you safe.”

I trust him, so I closed my eyes and drifted off.
