Harry Comes Back From Christmas Break with an Interesting New Look

It was Christmas break again in fourth year when new questions arose. Or more like the day that the those had left for the break border the train to come back. Everyone, muggle and wizard alike stared at the boy as he walked to the platform, how could they not when he had a streak of white in his hair?

Hermione’s eyebrows shot up when she saw the other Gryffindor enter the compartment.

“What did you do to your hair, mate?” Ron asked, his eyes glued to the streak as well.

”You like it?” Harry asked, almost self consciously though the other two could tell that he was trying to sound cocky. Hermione could see a faint blush arising on the boy’s cheeks and wondered just what he had down to get it like that. Muggle dyes were never that good and he wouldn’t have had access to magic over the past two weeks.

”it’s… something,” Hermione admitted, not wanting to hurt her friend’s feelings. Honestly she just thought it strange.

But Harry only shrugged, touching the streak lightly as if it was something special, proudly as if he had gone through some great feat to earn it.

Apparently the professors thought it just as strange though.

”Mr. Potter, just what have you done to your hair?” Professor McGonagall asked on the first day back In Transfiguration.

Harry looked sheepishly up at the older woman and muttered something that no one else could hear.

“What was that?” McGonagall asked, her annoyance growing.

“It was an accident?” Harry said, though it sounded more like a question.

The professor sighed and raised her wand, casting a silent spell over the boy. Harry frowned at the lock of hair turned black once more, but grinned as it changed back to white. The professor’s sigh became exasperated as she tried once more, but the lock didn’t even darken this time. The professor stormed off to her desk, slinking down into it like a cat.

”Bloody hell, Potter. What did you do?” Malfoy asked as the spell failed. For once his voice didn’t hold a sneer but sheer curiosity.

”Shove off Malfoy,” Ron snarled before turning to Harry and lowering his voice. “But seriously, what did you do?”

Harry looked between his classmates, seeing as they were all still staring at him. “Would you believe me if I said that I held up the sky?” He asked, looking hopeful though no one else seemed to take the idea well. “Right…”

For two weeks the students forgot the tournament that was being held and wondered about just what could have happened to create such an effect that even one of the most faltered witches in the school couldn’t undo it. No one knew that Harry had already told them all the truth.
