- The shrill shriek chilled them to the bone

The sound from the abandoned lake house chilled them to the bone. It was dark, and cold outside. They hadn't expected to find anyone there. But the shrilling shrikes they'd heard for miles were coming indubitably from the inside of the house.
Hermione looked at Harry, who was staring blankly at the horizon.
"We can't risk going inside. We need to find somewhere else for the night. I'm sorry Harry. I thought it was abandoned. All my years of coming here with my parents… I never heard anything.
"I know," he said. But he didn't move, still staring at the house.
"Harry." She grabbed his hand.
"Sorry Hermione," he said. "It's just…those sounds… remind me of my mother screaming…"
She pulled him into a hug. "Oh, Harry."
He broke away and with one last look, they moved past the seemingly haunted house. They had plenty on their heads without checking the horrible sounds coming from inside. Only one thing was certain. They weren't human.
