Chapter 4

Once everyone was sorted they were to be brought to their common rooms by their house prefects. Bev learned that the Slytherin prefects were Regulus and Evie's cousin and her boyfriend. Narcissa didn't seem too bad, she was nicer than Lucius. Though she did pull the girls aside to give them a talk.

They were allowed to go to her about whatever they needed. Bev was certainly disturbed by the amount of detail Narcissa used in her talk. But being the only Slytherin girls in their year her and Evie got a room to themselves.

Bev flopped down face first on her bed, rolling off so she could change into something more comfortable than the robes. She changed into a pair of black sweatpants with an elastic waistband, and one of her mum's muggle band tshirts.

Evie had watched Bev flop onto her bed a second time as she walked to the small bathroom attached to their room. She ran herself a bath as the Slytherin common room and dorms were rather cold.

As Bev heard the running water she knew Evie wouldn't be able to hear her so she started crying. Everything from that day finally got too much and she felt overwhelmed. She felt like a little kid looking for their mother in a massive crowd of people that looked the same. She felt lost and like a little kid. She felt like she needed someone to hold her hand and guide her, someone to kneel down and comfort her.

Bev knew that wouldn't happen, she knew she was just going too far into her mind as she kept crying. Silent tears soaked into the soft pillow that smelled like bleach. That somehow made it worse. She wouldn't admit it to anyone especially her father but she was homesick. She missed the smell of the laundry detergent her mum used along with her mum's perfume that was always on her pillows.

Evie walked back out after draining the tub and changing into her light green silk nightgown. She was better at knowing other's emotions than anyone she knew. She walked over and sat on the edge of Bev's bed, rubbing her back. "What's wrong, Bevvy?" The nickname slipped out but she didn't bother correcting herself.

Bev looked up with tears still in her eyes. She moved to sit with her face buried in Evie's shoulder. "Don't wanna talk about it." She mumbled, hugging Evie close. She calmed down when Evie laid down with her on her chest.

"I'm right here, you're safe, you're going to be okay." Evie spoke softly as she kept Bev's head on her chest. She held Bev close, gently playing with the hair that went to her hips.

Bev fell asleep quicker than she would like to admit. Evie wasn't her mum but provided the comfort she desperately needed. And maybe she smelled even better but that was probably a weird thing to think. She felt safe listening to Evie softly humming a lullaby.
