I can relearn my life without you
The office is quiet, the quills scratching against parchment the loudest sounds in the room. Draco struggles not to fill the silence that's been growing between them for weeks. Instead, he thinks about what he'd say if he wasn't such a coward.
And even though we haven't had a proper conversation in months, I hear too much through the grapevine. You've taken Gene for his inaugural Asunday brunch with the Weasley matriarch. He's the first guy you've taken home to meet the parents. You two took a weekend trip to the Alps, skiing or some nonsense. Stayed at a Muggle resort and everything. Rumor down in Artifacts is that you two might move in together soon. I rarely give rumors much credit, but considering Artifacts was talking about you and Gene before anybody else... well, they might be on to something.
You haven't asked me for a pint in ages. You even glared at Ron when he asked last week. I thought it was an awkward olive branch until I saw your face. What did you think when I didn't even bother to come up with an excuse? What do you think of all of this? Because I think I'm losing you.
God, Harry. Please don't let me be losing you.
I don't think I can relearn my life without you.
Harry clears his throat and Draco realizes he's been staring. Leaving his files where they lay, Draco leaves for the day.
