chapter 1
Regulus took a deep breath, looking at the ivory door infront of him. He looked down at the page he was holding. It read 273. The same number etched in gold on the door. He raked a hand through his black, ear length curls, with a sigh.
He'd recently followed in his older brothers footsteps of cutting off their parents. With quite a bit of money saved -maybe some stolen out of his parents drawers. He was able to afford just about any college.
Unfortunately, that didn't leave much for his own apartment.
Hence, why he was standing infront of some strangers door, all because he posted an add about needing a roommate.Â
Gathering all of his courage he took a step forward and knocked three times on the door. He heard some shuffling behing the door, before it was pushed wide open. He looked up to see who it was.
And he was met with the most gorgeous man to ever grace this earth. The man was grinning widely. He was quite a bit taller than Regulus and had bright, hazel eyes, behind large round glasses. He was wearing a pretty loose sweater, but Regulus could still his arm muscles through the top. Regulus' eyes moved up and down the man's body. From the brown mop of hair on his head to the white sneakers on his feet.
"Regulus?" The man spoke up eventually, ending Regulus' exploration and bringing his eyes up to his face. His gorgeous face. "Regulus, right?"
Regulus nodded slowly. "I'm James, by the way." The man, now James, chuckled, "I think I forgot to mention that." He smiled sheepishly, bringing a hand to scratch the back of his neck.
Regulus took note of all of James movements, it's a habit. Growing up in an abusive household taught him to always be prepared. Though, by the looks of it, this 'James' seemed as though he wouldn't hurt a fly. 'but he would probably blow your mind in bed.' Regulus added silently.
Regulus did make an attempt to let those thoughts subside, failing miserably. Regulus let his eyes wander over James' body, stopping at his hands. Those hands that were now holding onto the doorframe. Somehow, Regulus decided that those hands would know exactly what to do. He groaned internally, just thinking of it. He let his eyes roam freely, all those unholy thoughts rather than being chased out were quite welcome.
"Regulus?" James voice rang in his ears, snapping him out of his thoughts. "You still there?" He looked up to see James with an almost concerned expression on his face. Regulus just nodded, once again.Â
James smiled, "ok, then," the brunette said taking a sharp inhale, "where are your bags?" Regulus turned and pointed towards a corner where he'd dropped his bags. James hummed softly. "So, would you like to come inside or should we stand here all day?" He joked.
A smile tugged softly at Regulus lips but he nodded anyway. He turned to go fetch his bags but was stopped by James -not surprisingly, strong hands. "I'll get it." He said, nodding towards the apartment for Regulus to go inside.
Regulus went inside, whilst James went to go fetch his bags. Regulus silently took in the apartment and , honestly, it wasn't half bad. It was actually pretty nice. It would do quite well for himself and James. You know, judging by what he could see.Â
Just then, there was a thump as James dropped his bags on the floor. "Not bad, huh?" James smiled sweetly. The ravenette tried his best to return the smile. Obviously, failing. He knew this because James had started to laugh softly.Â
"So," James said, still laughing, "how about I show you your room?" Regulus nodded and mouthed inaudiblely. "Ok." James giggled, "ok."
The taller man lead the way, all the way down the passage. Opening the door on the left he said, "this is your room." He walked in, setting down Regulus' bags, "that's my room," he gestured to room right opposite Regulus' own, "I'm usually in there, so if you need anything at all that's where you'll find me." He said exaggeratedly. This caused a small, barely there smile to appear on Regulus' face. James too smiled at this.
"And the bathroom is right," he paused walking out to gesture to the door directly at the end of the passage, "here. You kinda just have to turn left." James chuckled. Regulus was coming to realise he quite liked that particular sound.
James sighed, turning to Regulus. "Well, I'll leave you to it." He was a about to walk away but stopped, turning back to Regulus, "you're alright?"Â He asked. Regulus nodded, 'probably?' he thought. James smiled and walked away.
Regulus did find it a bit weird though. James had just met him, but he seemed to.. care? Atleast that's what it seemed like. He was nice to Regulus. This shouldn't be weird but considering from the moment Regulus saw him all he could think was 'hot, hot, hot' it was.
Regulus looked around his new room, everything seemed new right now. New room. New roommate. New apartment. New School. Totally not unnerving at all, right?
"Right." Regulus muttered to himself before moving to unpack his bags.Â
Once he'd finished, Regulus decided to change into something more comfortable. He put on a shorts and a slightly cropped David Bowie sweater, Now, deciding that he should go sit in the living room.
When he got there he saw James sitting on the couch, watching something on his phone. When he heard Regulus ente James looked up, that smile still stretched across his face. James set his phone down on the couch next to him.Â
Regulus tried to smile back, it was an awkward smile. But getting there. He sat down on the couch opposite James, pulling his legs up onto the couch and laying them next him.
They say staring for a moment. Trying figure out what to say. It was James who broke the silence. "You're a fan of David Bowie?" He asked looking at Regulus' top. Regulus looked down at his top and chuckled, "not really. I stole this from my brother."Â
James nodded, "huh. So what I'm hearing is, you're a fraud?" He smirked, raising an eyebrow. Regulus laughed again. "No, I'm a fan." He insisted but was met with a questioning look from James, "ok ok, I've listened to maybe one of his songs." He admitted raising his hand in defeat.
James smirked and nodded, "I thought so." He said, leaning back on the couch. He sighed, "so what do you major in?" James' asked.Â
"Astronomy and art." Regulus answered. James suddenly burst out laughing. Regulus, with a confused look on his face, asked. "What? What is it?"
James continued laughing and while saying, "it's just, everyone else picks majors so opposite from what you'd guess but you," he started laughing uncontrollably.Â
Regulus scoffed feigning offence. "Are you saying that my majors are obvious!?" He asked, trying to seem offended by but the way he was laughing said otherwise. James nodded, still laughing loudly. Regulus furrowed his brows and waited for James to calm down before asking, "well, what's your major?"
James smirked. "Law." Regulus rolled his eyes, "and you say mine is obvious?" He asked with a huff. But James just continued smirking, "really? You would have guessed law?" He asked with that same questioning look from the last time Regulus' lied.
"Yes." Regulus lied through his teeth, unconvincing though. He sighed, "no." He corrected himself and James once again Burt out into fits of laughter.
That was it. That's what started it. They had one of the most fun conversations of Regulus' life. He felt like could just be comfortable around James. Which was good. They discussed everything and also nothing.Â
After a while they decided that they should go to bed. Regulus went to bed with a smile that night.Â
He was going to enjoy this 'roommate' thing.
