prologue
It's a cool August day, the Pettigrew family were on their way to the Potter's house so Peter could meet James. When they arrived Peter hid behind his mom as she knocked on the door. He was a shy kid who hated meeting new people. The door opened revealing A man, a woman, and a boy who was Peter's age. Peter's mom pushed him in front of her and she greeted her friends happy to be able to see them again. Peter looks at the boy in front of him, he has brown curly hair and glasses. He has a huge smile on his face that can anyone who looks at it. "Hi I'm James," the boy said as he stretched out his hand. Peter looked at the hand scared that it might hurt him. His mom gently nudges him trying to get him to shake hands with James. "H-hi I'm Peter" he shakes hands with James then quickly lets go taking his hand back. James's mom Euphemia bends down a little looking at the two boys "Why don't you boys go play outside while we grownups catch up" James quickly nods before taking Peter's hand and dragging him to his backyard into the woods.
Peter is on the platform with his mom, waiting for James to show up. He watches as more and more kids show up with their families. he rocks back and forth on the balls of his feet growing impatient. finally, he sees James and immediately runs toward him. James meets him halfway and they hug each other like they haven't seen each other in years. when they part they go over to Peter's mom talking about how fun Hogwarts is going to be. When it's time to say goodbye to their parents Peter holds back tears trying to seem strong in front of James. As they make their way to the train James bumps into a boy. He has black hair and is wearing an expensive suit. James and Sirius immediately hit it off and it's like Peter is forgotten. they make their way onto the train leaving Peter behind. Peter feels hurt. How could James forget about him for some kid he doesn't even know? He feels tears start welling up in his eyes. he sees a boy who looks confused and unsure of what to do. He decides that if James is going to replace him he might as well find a replacement himself. He calms himself down before walking up to the boy and asks "Hi I'm Peter do you want to sit with me and my friends" Remus nods his head and follows Peter onto the train Finds the compartment James and Sirius are in
It's the marauder's fourth year when Peter realizes he has a crush a James and when he realizes Sirius has fully replaced him as James' best friend. Peter always looks at James like he's the sun, like he lights up the whole world with just a smile. James barely notices Peter. He's always messing around with Sirius or flirting with some random girl. Peter knows he should get over James. That James will never like him but he's just so pretty.
