Dearest Darkness - Jegulus

Regulus Black is a vampire. He has been for a while. Nobody in his family knows, and he wants to keep it that way.

As he walks through the rubble on the floor of the abandoned ruins of an old library, oil lamp in hand, he hears the distinct sound of human breathing. Frantically, he spins around, trying to distinguish where the sound is coming from.

“Look up,” a voice says from above. Regulus looks up to see a human with soft-looking skin, sort of blue eyes, a mess of brown curls and the biggest grin known to man on his face. The human is sitting atop one of the huge bookshelves.

“What is thy purpose up there?” Regulus asks, lifting the lamp a bit higher to properly see the human’s face. “Who talks like that nowadays?” The human chuckles.

“That is a most rude statement,” Regulus says. “I am Regulus, and whom might thou be?” he asks the human. The human hops off the bookshelf, landing properly on his feet. “James Potter,” he simply says.

The two fall into conversation, though they are interrupted by the oil lamp’s light going out. It must be out of oil.

There is silence between the two for a bit, and then Regulus speaks up. “I hate the dark.”

“But, aren’t you a vampire?” this human, James, asks. “Well yes, how did thou know?” Regulus responds. “Saw your fangs, and you speak like an old man, so I sort of just guessed,” James shrugs.

“How can a vampire hate the dark, isn’t that your thing?” James follows up with a question. “The dark frightens me, whom knows what might be lurking in it?” Regulus says.

“Well, as for right now, just you and I. Here, I’ll make some light,” James says, taking out his wand, “Lumos,” the wand lights up the abandoned building. “Thank you, human,” Regulus says. “Just James is fine,” James responds, offering the vampire a hand.

“In that case, thank you, James.”
