Meeting at the Library - Wolfstar
Remus Lupin is carrying a stack of seven books. He’s headed for the library in town. Once he gets there, the automatic doors open and he can go right in.
He heads for the front desk and returns his books, then turns to leave when he sees a familiar figure talking quietly with a librarian. ‘No way, is Sirius at the library?’ Remus thinks to himself, knowing Sirius would rather be caught dead than have to revisit any library because it reminds him of how he used to hate studying.
Remus walks closer and hears Sirius ask the librarian which books would be good to get for his friend. Something in Remus’ chest stings, he would have always hoped that he’d be Sirius’ chosen advisor when it came to books.
So he sneaks up behind Sirius and whispers into his ear, “You should really consider what sources you’re using, Black.”
Sirius jumps at the sound of Remus’ voice and especially choice of referring term. Remus never calls him by his last name, not unless he’s really disappointed, let down or otherwise upset. And even then, it’s rarely justBlack.
“Rem, hi.. What are you doing here?” Sirius tries to play it off. “Oh, you know, just returning some books, I borrowed,” Remus responds with that slight smile, he always seems to bear around Sirius. “And you?” Remus turns the question on Sirius. The librarian has slipped away with the excuse of having books to put away.
“Looking for inspiration for a book gift for James. He wants to get Lily some books for Christmas,” Sirius says. “Your sources are poor. The librarians can only go by stereotypical choices. We know Lily personally. Let’s go to a bookstore, you’ll find more of the books she reads there, than you will here,” Remus says, holding his hand out to Sirius.
Sirius takes his hand without too much hesitation. “I guess that’s a better way to find inspiration..,” Sirius says quietly, following his boyfriend to the local bookstore.
Remus leads them to a section with fantasy and adventurous books. “I suggest The Lord of the Rings, and I know she hasn’t read it yet,” he says, looking at Sirius. “I’ll tell James that,” Sirius says.
Later that evening, when Sirius and Remus are lying on their couch, watching bad movies and criticising them, Remus speaks up. “So, who was the better source? Me or the librarian?” “You,” Sirius begrudgingly admits.
