Day 30- edition- Marylily
“Mary, you didn’t,” Lily looks up at her with tears in her eyes, her mouth hanging open in shock as she stares down at the gift in her hands, “Where did you find this, this is a first edition, is this real?”
“There's a validation note in the front sleeve.” Lily opens the cover delicately, holding her breath like she’s afraid the book will disintegrate if she breathes near it. A small yellowing card falls into her hand as she pulls back the sleeve and she whimpers as she reads it, it’s real,
“This is hundreds of years old,” She whispers, staring at the book with an awe that is usually reserved for Mary and Mary alone, “You got this for me?”
Mary smiles and nods in confirmation, thoroughly enjoying how amazed Lily is by the gift. Lily looks back down at the book, flicking the pages with such care that Mary feels her heart flutter watching her,
“It is protected by charms, so it won’t break, rip or tear,” Mary lets her know, she doesn’t need to act like the book will disappear from her hands, it is safe if she wants to pour water on it or light it on fire, breathing near it will be fine.
“I don’t want to risk it, I’d never forgive myself if I destroyed something so valuable,” Lily whispers again, placing the book down on the table and throwing herself at Mary, wrapping her arms around her neck and pulling her into a kiss that leaves them both breathless when they pull apart
“I love you, I love you, I love you,” Lily repeats like a mantra, twirling the two of them around their living room as she laughs in pure joy and disbelief, “i can’t believe you’d get something like this for me,”
“Lils I’d do anything for you,” Mary states, just to make it clear, she would move the heavens, tear them down and lay them at Lily’s feet if that was what it took to make her happy. “And this was just a book,”
Lily gasps, leaning back in Mary’s arms and looking at her in shock, “If you hadn’t just bought me that book I would be so mad at you right now,” Lily teases and Mary rolls her eyes fondly.
“You know what I mean,” Lily hums and leans in to kiss Mary deeply and meaningfully, trying to express her love and appreciation with it. Mary smiles into the kiss, thinking about how the time and effort it took to find the first edition was well worth the reward. Lily pulls away from the kiss and groans, resting their foreheads together,
“Now my gift seems so stupid and worthless,”
