Chapter 4
Sirius had also been busy with looking for Remus during the day, but unlike Lily and James, he had been unsuccessful so far. His two friends had also forgot to mention that they had already found Rems and he spend the rest of the day worrying about their last encounter… in his own way.
I think I might have come off a bit too strong right? I mean I have been friends with James (and only James) for so long I forget how to interact with people who aren’t James... i probably scared the poor guy off. Well, if he can’t handle me that’s not my problem… unless…wait it actually is my problem… HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE MY RESEARCH PARTNER!
His river of thought got disturbed by a familiar hand touching his shoulder. “Hello Sirius… we waved at you from across the street, but you seemed lost in your own head! Are you aware that you are going the other way?”
”Oh hello, girls! I’m sorry.” He recognised Mary and Marlene.
”You weren’t thinking about ditching us again were you?” Marlene teased.
That was his cue to put on his charming smile. ”But of course not, my sweet ladies,” He said as he grabbed both of them by the shoulders and pulled them in for a hug. “You know I- would never.”Sirius laughed and rested his hands on the girls shoulders.
”Do we really need to remind you?” Started Mary.
”Oh yeah. Mary- Do you remember that one time in the summer- help me- what was their name?”
They set on their way to the dinner they were supposed to meet up in with the rest of the group. The girls had fun teasing Sirius and he let them, he did find their teasing quite endearing. During the summer Sirius was send to a camp as punishment from his crazy parent, what they didn’t expect was Sirius actually enjoying the experience. They were all used to a life in luxury, so spending two months in the middle of the woods surrounded by loud children sounded like a nightmare. And it was… in it’s own way, but it was the best “nightmare” Sirius had ever expirienced. He made a lot of friends there, including these two girls and he got a lot closer to James. And his life had quenually improved since then. He of course didn’t let his parents know that.”Oh yeah- Skyler… you had so much fun with Skyler during the firework night at camp… IN FACT… you had so much fun you forgot about to pick us up them the lake and were were forced to walk alll the waaay back to camp…”
”Who’s Skyler?” Lily jumped them as they were sharing laughter.
”WHA- how long have you been following us Lils- and James of course it’s you as well…” Sirius got taken by surprise
The mood had shifted.
”Long enough to be interested in this Skyler girl story-” Lily nodded.
James, Mary and Marlene shared a look with Sirius, who shook his head. “Not much to tell, Lily it was just a hook up…”
”You left your friends for a HOOK UP with a girl?! Wow, you aren’t the man i thought you were, Black.” Lily joked, but for some reason the joke didn’t land right. Maybe she had hit a sensitive subject. "Let's head inside, huh? So you don't run off to hit another target!" She changed it smoothly... or at least she thought. "It's no use waiting for Remus outside, he has a habit of being late."
Remus did in fact, not have a habit of being late. Or at least he didn't think so, on the contrary he had a habit of being too early. He like to watch people gather, talk and join in the right moment.
That was a part of why people liked Remus so much, he always knew what to say, when to leave to people would have only the best impressions of him. It wasn't a concious thing. But right now, for some reason... he just couldn't bring himself to go in behind them and join them. He couldn’t find the right time.
It was probably because it seemed like they were all so... careless in his eyes. It seemed as though they had no worry in their worlds, as if they were happy... too happy. And Remus couldn’t really relate to that right now.
And so there he was, standing in front of a window to the dinner, staring at them likea creepy stalker. It was calming in a way. He was imagining what they were talking about, feeling delighted when they laughed.
I might as well then. He thought as he brought out his camera and snapped a picture of them. Yep, now its official, a cre--
"You creepy stalker, why are you taking pictures of us?... Well them really..."
That voice was… it was so familiar…"- I wasn't." Remus turned around… it was Sirius standing behind him, his hands in pockets.
"Nuh-uh, that's creepy man..." he shook his head as he laughed nervously. "Now show me..." He reached fot the camera.
It's not funny. "I can't."
"You are already creepy so don't be a prude as well, and just show me." Sirius tried to snatch his camera, he failed.
"NO! Its not that I don't want to show you, It's just not that kind of camera."
"Bullshi-" tried to protest Sirius.
"I'm not bullshitting you. It's an old film camera. I need to develop it first." Remus said and then he realized he could take the chance to get the advantage. "And then I might show you... if I feel like it... What are you even doing here? Shouldn't you be inside... or you know on the picture if you will?"
"You are being playful now, huh? I came out... for a smoke." He paused and lit his cigatette. "You smoke?"
"Only when somebody offers." Remus winked at him.
Sirius stared at him and offered a cigaretre with a slightly surprised looks. ”You know you seem a lot less shy than during the last time we met.” Sirius handed it to him and Remus immedietly put it between his lips and started to pet himself down, searching for a lighter.
”And you are a lot less naked.” Remus snarked at him and watched Sirius exhale smoke and stare at him in disbelief. “You have a light?”
”Eh sure,” Sirius try to shook off his initial shock. “There you go.” He lit the cigarette while Remus was holding it in his mouth, like it was nothing. And that left Remus in shook for a change. “So why haven’t you come inside yet?”
“Like to watch people,” Remus took a long drag out of his smoke acting unbothered by what just happened. “like you said… I’m a creep.”
”Sure, fine… but I wouldn’t go with that…” Sirius laughed.
”See I am way more charismatic when ur clothed.”
”Now I get why you are so popular… ”
Remus coughed up smoke “Me? Popular? You have the wrong guy.”
”Phahaha,” Sirius wiped a tear from laughter “nah I definetly have the right guy. Remus Lupin, from class A? All the girls from our class whisper about you. ”
”Dude you confuse me, you call me a creep, I call me a creep… and then you call me popular? You confuse me Black.”
There was a moment of an uncomfortable silence and the both took a drag of their cigarettes.
“Nah, there is just something in your presence and voice. Makes people comfortable… works for me as well apperently…”
Remus turned his head away to hide the redness he felt coming. “You are wierd.” He mumbeled.
”Surprisingly I get that a lot…”
