Chapter 1
The first thing Adagio woke up to was darkness. Darkness, and a faint red glow next to her. A familiar and comforting red glow. The familiar crystal was sitting there innocently, all the while emitting an ominous magic.
Adagio picked up the necklace and glanced at her, no, his reflection in the stone. Unlike his previous body, he was a skinny boy with piercing green eyes. That wasn’t what was unusual though. Adagio had his fair share of magic, and he had never felt the kind of magic that was emitting out of his own body. It was different. It was refreshing.
Adagio snarled as a bang was heard from the small door next to him. “Boy! Get up!!” A man was heard, and from the sound of the foot steps, he was quite big. Adagio recognized people like this, in the ancient times of Equestria where she and her sisters rule. It was best to tread carefully. He stuffed the gem under the pillow in the pillow case. The glowing luckily stopped the second it was under so if that man did check, he wouldn’t see it. He cautiously opened the tiny door, the one about the size of a cupboard door, and was curious as soon as he stepped out. From the looks of it, it seemed to be an older version of the modern world. There were no phones or electronic devices besides the old television and radio.
“Cook breakfast freak!! Everything needs to be perfect for my little Duddykins’ birthday!” A thin woman screeched. If he didn’t know any better, he would’ve thought she was a dead man’s skeleton. Adagio begrudgingly walked to the kitchen, noticing the weight of the rags she’s wearing, and started to cook. It was surprisingly easy, like she’d done it before. Or rather, like the body she possessed done it before. She placed their breakfast on their plate and almost immediately, the big whale of a man huffed as he shuffled the newspaper, “Get the male Dudley!” The man yelled. “Make Harry get it!” The boy whined. “Get the mail Harry!” The man yelled once again Adagio rolled her eyes, “Humans…” He muttered to herself and got the mail. While looking through it something caught her eye. An old, stained envelope addressed to Harry Potter. Adagio looked back and decided that there was no other person for it to be addressed to other than herself. Harry, a simple and atrocious name.
He looked back and made sure they weren’t paying attention. Luckily they were only doting on “Duddykins” so it was easy to slip the envelope through the slotted peephole. Once he plopped the mail on the table she went straight to her cupboard. The family didn’t notice, more like they were relieved they didn’t have to eat with the freak.
When Adagio, Harry, went inside the cupboard, she immediately searched for a light. Eventually, she could feel a metallic string hanging from the ceiling and pulled. The room lit up dimly, but it was enough to see the contents of the letter. Adagio tore open the unfamiliar seal on the back and read the aged letter. She skipped the address details and formalities until she came across the first sentence.
