That’s the last thing that Regulus remembers.
He shoots up, gasping.

“Kr- he’s interrupted by a violent coughing fit.
Kreacher appears anyway.
*Pop*
“Master Regulus has finally woken up! Stay right there Kreacher will get you some food!”
*Pop* *Pop*
“Kreacher has brought soup”
“Lo..k..k..e..t” Regulus manages to croak out
“Kreacher has failed! Kreacher didn’t destroy the locket!!!” Kreacher wails bowing to Regulus and apologizing repeatedly
“Kr- he’s cut off by coughing again
“Here, Master must drink some water for his throat!”
Kreacher holds a glass to Regulus’ lips and helps him drink
“Thank…you.. how long was I asleep”
Kreacher hesitated “Master has been asleep for…”
“How long” Regulus sits up sharply immediately regretting it “ughh”
“Master! Is Master Regulus ok?” Kreacher exclaims immediately coming to regulus’ side
“How long” Regulus grits out through clenched teeth
“….10years”
Regulus come back to Kreacher calling his name
“What happened?”
“Master Regulus fainted!!”
“Oh”
There are a few things Regulus learns within the next few days:
James is dead
James has a son
Pandora is dead
Pandora has a daughter
Evan is dead
Barty is dead
Dorcas is dead
Sirius is in Azkaban
Voldemort is dead
The locket hasn’t been destroyed
James son is 8
James son is alone
After having multiple mental breakdowns Regulus creates a list of priorities
1. Harry Potter- ensure his safety, who he is with ect.
2. Luna Lovegood- she should be living with her her father but Reg wants to check in on her anyways
3. Sirius- Regulus is confident that he is innocent and plans to prove it
4. Horcruxes
5. Voldemort himself
Sirius is in Azkaban so Harry can’t be with Sirius but he could be with Lupin. So he needs to find Lupin.
Regulus looks through ministry records to see if he can find Lupin. He’s in luck because there was a bill passed which basically was a werewolf watch list. Lupin moves a lot and they’ve lost track of him a couple times so it won’t be that suspicious if he grabs him. He’s currently in London working at a muggle company. Well London is certainly convenient.
Ok so plan:
Use animagus form (cat) to get a sense of Lupins schedule
Find a inauspicious time to “bump” into him
Slip note into his pocket
a pretty simple plan and easy enough to pull off

“Remus Lupin, I’m glad you made it.”
“Who are you?”
“I mean I know I’m supposed to be dead (I got better?) but the black family has always had a certain look to us, haven’t we?”
“Regulus?!”
“I need your help.”
“Why should I help you?”
“Because it’s within our common interests”
“You want Sirius free?”
“Yes but that’s not what I need your help with”
“Then what do you want?”
“James’ son wher-“
“What do you want with Harry!”
“I just need to make sure he’s safe”
“Why should I believe yo- that ring, it’s the ring James lost in 5th year…”
“Is that what he told you?”
“You… James… when? How long? Did Sirius know? Did Lily know!?”
“We got together when I was 14, we never officially broke up but it was complicated after… -Lily knew, my brother did not.”
“You don’t care that he got with Lily?”
“You didn’t know?”
“Know what?”
“I’ll explain later but for now come back to my place, you need to eat and then we can talk more and start looking for Harry.”
“Ok… I’ll trust you for now.”
“Thankyou”
Remus sits there looking sorta broken.
“Remus, are you ok?”
“What… they… James… what?!”
Regulus smiles fondly at this reaction
“Ok.. ok, holy shit! When Sirius finds out he’s gonna have a fit!”
At this Regulus starts to laugh, Remus soon joins him
“Now onto Harry, do you know where-“
“He’s with his aunt and uncle on Lily's side”
“Ok so let’s go” Reg says brightly
“Shouldn’t we like, make a plan or something?”
“You don’t think we can deal with a few muggles and an eight year old?” Regulus raises an eyebrow
“You say that as if you plan to fight them” Remus responds amused
“Well I won’t fight the eight year old but I make no promises for the muggles.”
Remus barks out a laugh ok let’s go
The sound of apparition fills the now empty halls of Grimmauld Place.
