Chapter 13

Hermione found teaching to be so very rewarding, but part of her hopes when she came to Hogwarts was setting up a research laboratory modeled after that of muggle universities ones. She always felt in her heart that the intersection of muggle studies and magical studies can yield benefits to both worlds. She wanted to focus her research on elusive potions that held strange properties and see how they could be used in practical ways. It took some convincing and some months of unauthorized and unpaid research before she was able to prove her point to the board and headmistress, the turning point was the sudden appearance of the Middlemist Red flowers, she finally was able to produce an alternative to Polyjuice she’d been working on, it was the first thing she wanted to tackle having never full recovered the embarrassment of her turning part cat. When she demonstrated the new potion her entire proposal for a research facility at Hogwarts was immediately granted. While she never found how how the flowers just happened to show up at the perfect time or by whose power, she was thrilled to have this new Avenue of work to keep her even more busy and distract her mind from the isolation of Hogwart.

She had no problem recruiting muggle-born students to her labs but found it hard to recruit the still uptight purebloods. So to bolster her lab staff she began posting around the school ads for the various open positions, marketing them as a great supplement to high OWL scores for job searching. She hoped she’d get at least a few candidates.
