Chapter 5:

It didn’t take long for the rumors to reach Hermione, everyone was whispering about the new DADA teacher…a Malfoy, yes THAT Malfoy. A few things clicked for Hermione at once, one, she wasn’t crazy, she did see that unmistakable hair in Hogsmeade the other night, and two, that’s why the headmistress has been keeping mum about who the new professor would be, even when Hermione wouldn’t relent, she was dearly hoping it would be someone she knew or someone closer to her age, a real colleague to commiserate with, but this, Malfoy! She never expected, what did the rich prat need a job for anyway? Hermione was between confusion and utter rage, how can her only chance at starting a community here be ripped apart by McGonagall hiring Malfoy, was she going senile? He was a fucking death eater for god sake. His father is rotting in Azkaban and half is fortune was taken as repayment after the war as punishment. She of course heard rumors here and there about his change of direction or his many stints abroad. And that he came back to England when his mother fell ill and eventually died, but she never thought she’d have to cross paths with that asshole again. The last she saw him was at his trial where she testified on his behalf, there was no love lost between them, but justice was justice, he was an asshole, but he was raised by one and forced into the war like the rest of them, just on the wrong side. But surely, parents wouldn’t accept a death eater, however reformed, to be among their children. That bolstered Hermione’s rage and hope, he wouldn’t last a month.
