THE PROLOGUE
the astronomy classroom, room 336, was one of the largest rooms on campus for some unknown reason. way too many tables and way too many comfy beanbag chairs. in the back corner of the room was a usually untouched table. no one usually sat there and never looked back there. until a certain james potter and sirius black took the vacant seats. astronomy was once a week, every thursday, and only had two classes: a morning class and an afternoon class. out of the two classes of astronomy only three people sat in that corner. it wasnt very interesting, just something astronomy class takers noticed.
every morning james potter had the same class (an astronomy class he and sirius decided to take for fun.) he sat in the same seat in the back of the room next to sirius black, his best friend. most people would say they never saw one without the other.
james potter didnt mind astronomy, it was interesting and a lovely subject to take for his second year of university. just sometimes the professor would drag a specific topic he understood well. out of boredom or just the idiot in him, he wrote in pencil on the desk:
> hiiii !!!
he never expected a reply obviously, he had no clue who sat in the secluded corner but assumed no one. nothing excites james more than the unknown and the unexpected (well maybe not nothing.) his new desk penpal that he hoped to have happens to be both, they also happen to not exist… probably.

every morning regulus black wakes up and dreads the day ahead of him but he gets up and continues forth. every morning he slices up regret and shoves it away. he pushes back forgotten memories and thoughts of who he wants to be. every morning he wakes up in shackles and begs for a key. he never gets one.
regulus black took astronomy this year because of his fascination with the stars. ever since he was a child he would look up at them with his brother and would point out the stars together. it was one of his favorite afternoon classes. he didnt know anyone in that class so he sat in the back. a secluded table that he believed no one else touched. that was until one day during an increasingly boring lesson on something he already knew he saw scribbly neat writing on the table…
> hiiii !!!
regulus curiosity was piqued. so, out of pure curiosity, he decided to respond. maybe a secret desk penpal is what he needed to get through his year of college. just maybe.
> hello
he carefully wrote in his neat cursive writing that his mother beat into his very hands. regulus could still see the small scars littering his knuckles. he grimaced and zoned back into the lesson. he suddenly figured out he was excited for the next one, a weird feeling that he frowned at.
